We never, ever do anything right in the eyes of governments around the world. Heck, we even got excoriated for simply cheering for our team at the Olympics. The rest of the world is either crazy or extremely jealous. :(:(:(

You're getting that impression too?

I'm worried we might be losing our European friends also.

That wouldn't be good at all.

IMO, the main problem is that a lot of countries are used to the way things were during the 90's!;) We were pretty much "patsies" for the world in those times..........the economy was great here and most other places so we had very little to fear. Now though, things are tighter and the passive views of America are too at least to a large extent. This is actually kind of cyclical as there was also a time of American disdain during the 80's..............the world likes an America with a strong economy to help them, but, they also like us to be passive. When we become more agressive with policy and talk, when we don't allow other countries to dictate our policy, they fear what we are capable of and that is what you are seeing right now.

I think the main reason Europe is starting to dislike the US so much now is the "my way or no way" attitute towards the world for the last few years. It just gets to people:(

Like I have said in the other threads: You only hear when people disagree with you. You don't hear it when they agree with you. Let's face it, people complain when they disagree. But when they agree, they say nothing.

Thats the whole argument by Americans concerning Europe. If Europe wants to do somthing one way, then do it! Why must America hold your hand through everything?

true, so the problem is probably lack flexibility on both sides, no country can have everything it wants. Tension is increasing in the world :(

They are just insecure brats, they can't do anything without the US and in return they only can cry about it. Europeans dont know how to goto the bathroom without the US holding their hands.

Look at it this way...

What other country are people dieing (literally) to get into everyday?

<< I am from canada, and I don't hate the united states. >>

And I'm from the U.S. and I love Canada!:) A proffessor in college once told me that in his opinion, a main fundamental difference between Americans and Europeans is; they tend to view other countries/peoples problems as their own where as the U.S. views anyone whom threatens not only it, but one of it's allies as an enemy and will do whatever it can to eliminate the threat...............

Yep. Exactly right. We went through the same cycle during the 80's. Reagan was in office and we felt as much disdain then as now.

For example, when the F-111s flew out of the UK in '86 to strike Libya, they were forced to fly around France and Spain. Convincing the reluctant Germans to stockpile at least a 30 day supply of combat ammunition required blackmail, threats, and bribes. By the way, US Forces in Europe had a 45 day supply on the ground back then. Europe was not too keen on the idea of stationing US Pershing II and cruise missiles on their soil either.

The 80's entailed standing up to the Russians with a military buildup. 1985 saw the U.S. dollar reach nearly record levels against European currency which was great for their exports and those of us stationed over there at the time. Some analysts say the European mini-export boom provided appeasement for the masses. We had terrorist attacks against us in Europe during the 80s, although not on the scale of the WTC. The Frankfurt PX and Berlin disco bombings come to mind.

Neither Europeans nor Middle Easterners are particularly fond of a Republican administration. I heard countless cheap-shots taken at Reagan and Bush Sr. by Europeans back then. In fact, judging from our European member's comments here, there is about the same amount of criticism of the Republican administration now as during the 80's.

Nothing new, and nothing to get excited about. I still consider Europeans as being good friends in the grand scheme of things.

Numbers son, numbers. I bet the immigration rate to America easily overshadows that of other countries.

Edit: Hence, quotas.

You put yourself in stupid places
Yes I think you know it's true
Situations where it's easy to look down on you
I think you like to be the victim
I think you like to be in pain
I think you make yourself a victim almost every single day
You do what you do
You say what you say
You try to be everything to everyone
You know all the right people
You play all the right games
You always try to be everything to everyone

The US is the greatest nation in the history of the world, and while we have made mistakes, I notice that people spend fortunes to get smuggled into our country, it's not Americans trying to get out. Apparently there are still some people who don't find everything about the US to be abhorrent. It's impossible to please everybody.

While liberals are so concerned about doing things that are acceptable to the "world", it cannot be done. All the other countries do not agree on what is just, what is right, what is democratic, etc., etc. For a country that is so hated, we don't seem to throw our weight around as every other country in history did when they were by far the biggest, baddest country at the time.

It would be nice if people liked the US, but if they don't I won't be losing any sleep. I don't think we are evil, nor are we abusing our power.

Oh, Czar, my Icelandic friend. If it wasn't for the United States, western Europe would have become a part of the Soviet Union.
