See screen name.

Do you know the circumstances of the move and why it was done in the middle of the night? Do you know much about Bob Irsay or Jim Irsay?

Errr -- true?

True again?

I have my answer now. I as once like you. I was a die-hard fan from 1971 to 2000 ... then I came to my senses.

He's got money, a ring, a chance at the hall, and most importantly the ability to still walk, which is what he should do, walk away while he can. He has a chance to walk away as a legend from Indy.

but the man got to work, like his papa John Pizza commercial. :)

I see Indy waiving Manning. They have already cleaned house and plan to rebuild. Paying Manning his signing bonus then drafting Luck would place over $50m on the salary cap for just one position.

I doubt Manning would also want to play on a team that is rebuilding.

But the 49ers need help in the Wr positions as well, maybe they can sign reggie wayne along with manning.

Exactly.
(I can dream, right?)

Apparently the 49ers have offered Alex Smith a 2 year - 8 million dollar contract. If this is the case, they realize that Smith isn't the long term future but Colin Kaepernick need more time to develop. Bringing in Manning for the tail end of his career while addressing the WR problems at the same time is a great solution.

Manning at 50% is still a top 10 QB.
until the playoffs start, then Eli makes his older brother look like a scrub in comparison.

If Luck turns out to be the stud everybody thinks he is (he was phenomenal in the Fiesta Bowl), then the short-term PR hit of cutting PM will be forgotten in due time.

Holy shit, imagine if Peyton went to the Jets.

Two Manning-Brady games every season.

Now imagine a Jets/Giants Subway Bowl with Manning vs. Manning.

The Jets will still suck. The problem is with the head coach not the players. Rex Ryan is a cancer.

Yeah, there's no real way the Jets can actually get Manning. They're too dysfunctional a team for him to want to play there - he's only got a couple years left so he's going to want to go to a team that can win NOW. Plus the Jets have no cap space to sign Manning.

There are plenty of teams that have a better shot at him and that he may actually want to play for.

I think Manning is out.

It doesn't look like he's healthy now, and I don't expect a miracle in the short time left.

I think Irsay firing everybody else clearly indicates he intends to go a new direction, and that means no Manning.

There's a reason Manning spoke out, and it sounds to me like he's not feeling the 'love', not at all.

Eli makes just about anyone look like a scrub in the playoffs.

It isn't a forgone conclusion that they're drafting luck. It is likely, but Irsay is looking at Griffin too.

You can't judge Jim Irsay by the actions of his dad. Bob was a drunken, mean, and nasty individual who would meddle in the affairs of the team all the way down to going to the sideline or locker room and demanding certain players be played. Jim has been a class act and when he took over, hired pros to run the team.

With that being said, the state of Maryland and the city of Baltimore aren't innocent little sheep that were led to slaughter by Irsay. Both entities knew he was serious and were taking action to seize the Colts via eminent domain. Irsay had to make a quick decision and the other finalist for the Colts, Phoenix, had dropped out a little earlier so the decision to move to Indy was easy. Quite frankly, I would've done the same thing if I owned the team.

I am expecting some bitter Baltimore fans to pipe in and try to crucify Irsay and defend their city/state, but I really don't care. Their bitterness toward Indy is ridiculous and incredibly hypocritical. And no, the "but...but...we left the Browns history in Cleveland!" doesn't excuse them, either. Oh, and thanks for our new head coach, Baltimore! Don't mind us -- we'll probably take a few other coaches from you as well. :D

I honestly think that Irsay will come to an understanding or deal with Manning. Now, it would've been much easier to do had Polian stuck around. Polian and Manning were sniping each other in the media a few weeks ago, but they genuinely liked each other and with Polian gone, we're going to see how much sway Manning has with Irsay.

One thing I didn't like hearing was how the new GM (Grigson) apparently has been pretty cold to Manning. Mr. Grigson needs to be very careful.

1st, Luck will be the #1 overall pick. Rodgers was the 25th or so. Completely different situations. If you take a player #1 overall, it's because you feel he can contribute.

Why would they dump him? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and health. That's it. 28 million for someone whose return is questionable... doesn't sound like a wise person to make that investment, regardless of what Manning has done.

As for over the hill... if and when the guy gets healthy, he'll be 36. Favre played till 40. There are a number of good players near 40. If Manning is healthy, he is as good as there is in the league.

And Minnesota... hmm, one cluster bomb to another... highly doubtful. He'll go to a team with a legitimate shot at a SB. At this point, MN isn't it. AP will need a year or so to come back from that ACL at 100%. The rest of their team is nothing special.

There is also one major difference between Favre's situation and Manning's situation. The Packers have a long and illustrious history full of success, stars, and icons. Brett Favre was but one of those icons.

Peyton Manning IS the Indianapolis Colts. Period. The Colts have had some great players -- Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, Marvin Harrison -- but outside of a couple of seasons with Jim Harbaugh, all of the success the Indianapolis Colts have had has been directly due to Peyton Manning. That's why I think Irsay can't rely on the Favre situation for guidance -- they are different situations.

I'm still not convinced that Alex Smith is the answer. If the Niners could get Manning for a couple of years, they'd be insane to pass that up.

I don't see the Niners doing that. Peyton is already behind the team's expectations for his rehab, as evidence by the fact that he hasn't really joined the team for practices even though that was likely the reason for why he wasn't placed on IR.

I'd love Peyton to play for the 49ers for a few years, but only if he can stay healthy. And with where he's at now, I honestly can't get behind the decision to acquire Peyton, because where do you put Alex Smith then? It'd be insulting to him, and then if Peyton gets hurt again/retires, then you're really fucked.

Alex Smith is a FA. They only signed him to a 1 year deal last year. For all I care he can go fuck himself.
