Firstly Clearance doesn't equal Access. Need to know is a primary factor.

That being said 1.2 million is a lot. They need much better background checks obviously. Also need to have more accountability for crap such as this. This dickweed was a member of the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

Maximum penalty!
A miracle, I am in full agreement 😂

Two words: Firing squad.
And no two year delay with appeals, etc.

From front page feature story on this right now:

Here’s what we know about the inquiry into the leaked documents.

NORTH DIGHTON, Mass. —Around a half-dozen F.B.I. agents on Thursday pushed onto the property of a 21-year-old member of the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard who is linked to an online group at the center of a trove of leaked classified U.S. intelligence documents that have upended relations with American allies and exposed weaknesses in the Ukrainian military.

The national guardsman, who was first identified by The New York Times as Jack Teixeira, oversaw an online group named Thug Shaker Central, where about 20 to 30 people, mostly young men and teenagers, came together over a shared love of guns, racist online memes and video games.

On Thursday, an armored vehicle and about a dozen uniformed officers, most wearing tactical gear and holding weapons, were outside the cordoned-off home.

Two U.S. officials confirmed that investigators want to talk to Airman Teixeira about the leak the government documents to the private online group. One official said he might have information relevant to the investigation.

Starting months ago, the authorities say, one of the users of the online group uploaded hundreds of pages of intelligence briefings into the small chat group, lecturing its members, who had bonded during the isolation of the pandemic, on the importance of staying abreast of world events.

The New York Times spoke with four members of the Thug Shaker Central chat group, where Airman Teixeira served as group administrator.

While the gaming friends would not identify the group’s leader by name, a trail of digital evidence compiled by The Times leads to Airman Teixeira.

Etc....

I guess one question on everyone’s mind right now—how does a 20-21 year old pass the necessary background check for Top Secret clearance?? Did they interview his high school guidance counselor?? How is it possible to clear someone so young??

This is false in most cases.

Need to know is a primary factor in having a legitimate reason to access information, but that doesn't mean you can't access it.

You can get in trouble for accessing information that you don't have a need to know.

But clearly this person didn't care about that if they were sharing it.

There is a long process that happens. It's not just going and interviewing a guidance counselor. I'd think someone that is younger would have an easier time getting one too because they have less "stuff" that has to be checked out.

This is what has to be filled out when applying for a clearance.

That kids form would be much shorter than someone older with a family and stuff.

I had a Top Secret Clearance at 20 years old...

Also was in the PRP Program for my entire career.

This Directive:

1. Reissues reference (a) to update policy, responsibilities, and
procedures for the management of the DoD Nuclear Weapon PRP.

2. Ensures the highest possible standards of individual reliability in personnel performing duties associated with nuclear weapons and critical components.

3. Requires the selection and retention of only those personnel who are emotionally stable, physically capable, and who have demonstrated reliability and professional competence. Individuals who do not meet or maintain program standards shall not be selected for, or retained in, the PRP or assigned duties associated with nuclear weapons.

Well that was when I was in the military, when it was properly controlled access. If anyone is getting access to Top Secret Documents without the Need to know then they are not properly running the system.

I imagine that this person working in the intelligence field had tons of access.

For example I had a Top Secret clearance as a Trident Missile Technician. I would not be given access to unrelated subjects having nothing to do with my job.

He's a bible thumper, which is a cheat code for fast track access in these circles.

Maybe some hidden inferiority complex led him to seek attention from his peers. Can't imagine how he might have gotten one of those. But I bet he's pleased that now millions what to shoot him for treason. Finally and at last a real somebody......

Yes, the one quote from Peterson in that article is about whether he considers himself the intellectual hero of incels (the question is not answered in a meaningful way, of course). Let's all just be lobsters, problem solved
The author of the piece mentions Peterson, of course, because he has similarly identified the problems Incels face. Naturally, because you came into the reading the link with pre-existing opinions obtained not from any close or analytical reading of Peterson himself on your part but based on the ignorance of others who aren't capable of analytical thinking, you assume that Peterson is loved by Incels because he is on their side. He is anything but. His efforts are directed to turning Incels into men, not by calling them monsters but by first showing sympathy and real understanding of their suffering. All you self hating liberals, kicked in the face all your lives by the sad sacks trapped in the delusion of 'manly men' do is offer contempt and hate. In this way you make the mirror image of them. Self haters go crazy thinking somebody might care about somebody worse off than they are.

Honestly we should be happy it was a clean arrest, for all involved, including the perp.

I’m curious as to what angle his defense will take. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the usual suspects (bullied at school, parents are absent, can’t talk to girls, a victim of woke culture and lockdowns, etc.)

They sure get all flummoxed when you inadvertently forget about a cruise you took to the Western Caribbean. Oops! I blame the stupid online system they came up with toward the end of my having to do PRs.

I'm sure it had something to do with drinking a bud light that turned him gay.

Simply joining a branch doesn't suddenly give you access to secret Pentagon documents though, is the point I think he was making. I'm not sure how this kid had access, much less was able to leave with any of it.

In the context of what was leaked, and why.... I say execute the leaker, give his superiors time in prison. His for treason, theirs for sheer incompetence and mishandling of info.

Wow this story is starting to hit close to home, Dighton MA is next to the town I grew up in. And there's an Air Force military intelligence squadron at Hanscom Air Base, about 1 hour north. My brother was assigned to that squadron when he got commissioned and worked there for years both as active duty and later as a civilian contractor. Probably a good chance that's where this guy worked.
