Has Sony clarified a way to tie DLC to accounts yet? I know a friend of mine bought all the DLC for SFIV (costumes and such) and just let me log into his account, download them, delete his account, and I had them all forever. He just logged back into this account and probably changed the password (at least I hope he did >_>).

Dafaq is going on here????

EDIT: Also reportedly no power brick!?

What kind of magic is this?

the ps4 looked gigantic to me for some reason. is that image accurate? if so, 99% locked in for ps4 purchase... gonna buy after beta though (aka, initial launch).

We've seen the back of it, and it has a plug consistent with having a power brick (2 pins). Otherwise I'm not surprised it's smaller than the original PS3 and 360 since it's a highly integrated, lower power device. A slim PS3 would probably be a better point of comparison.

MS might have overdone the cooling this time, since they don't want to take another $1 billion charge against defects like with the 360 RRoD.

Hopefully Sony didn't under-cool the PS4.

Here's an interesting link on the approximate sizes of the consoles.

As for cooling, the entire back end of the PS4 is ventilated save for a small area where you plug in the power cable. On the XBox One, the ventilation is on the top. I suspect the cooling on the XBox One is indeed beefier than the PS4's cooling, but this could be either an effort to prevent another overheating fiasco or that the rumors on the larger, hotter chip in the XBO are true.

Has anyone put any math into the total cost of the ps4 yet? I cant honestly imagine the build cost (not r&d) being all that much relative to last gen.

PS3 has the same style plug and no power brick BTW
actually no version of the PS3 has ever had a power brick. its always been inside

Why?

Sony developed the cell in house and built totally new fabrication factories for them. Thats an insane amount of R&D and investment into something that doesn't seem to have caught on in the mainstream.

Also add in the Blu-Ray drive which was cutting edge at the time and brand new.

That's a recipe for an insane build cost.

The PS4 uses components pre-developed and fabricated and uses mostly existing tech.

Yes, the picture is accurate

The power brick is inside the console.

Has there been any mention of whether or not PS3 peripherals will work on the PS4? I'd hate to have to buy another steering wheel, fight stick, etc..

I haven't heard any word from it. I know MS is saying they don't have peripheral backwards compatibility. I would assume the PS3 controller won't work due to it not having all the functionality of the PS4 one (touch screen / share button), but I haven't heard anything.

As far as fightsticks, Madcatz has announced a Xbox One fightstick that will be available at launch, but said nothing about a PS4 one. That could mean either MS paid them to not announce it, or PS3 sticks will still work.

I'd say it is say to assume that controllers for the PS3 will not work for the PS4 due to new things in the PS4 controller.

Man.. that'd suck if both my Logitech G27 and Fanatec CSR don't work for the PS4.

Edit: Wonder if the CSR would work on the new Xbox too.. hmm

The PS4 is slightly smaller than the real size in that image, I believe. If you look at the BluRay drive on the PS4 and compare it to the size of the drive on the XBO, the one on the PS4 is slightly smaller. I believe the PS4 is roughly the same width as the 360 Fat.

Couldn't it be top loading like the Slim?

Thats exactly what I meant, theres no reason for the ps4 to be all that expensive, unlike the ps3.

I would assume they are taking a loss. Even last gen for the Wii, Nintendo sold it for quite awhile at a loss, and it was all current technology.

No, Nintendo sold the Wii at a profit. The Wii U is the first system that Nintendo is selling at a loss. Even then it is a tiny one, they said one game sale and they recoup the loss on a system sale.

Maybe I was thinking of the Wii-U. Wasn't the Wii only getting like $3-4 dollars profit though at first?

Sony might be laughing now, but they won't be laughing once Obama mandates an Xbox One with Kinect for every household.
