I think sometimes the news cycle is too slow or something, as people tend to draw wild conclusions from relatively minor events... I think just because they want some conclusions to be made.

Didn't Bill Clinton only get like 3% of Iowa in 1992 and didn't take NH either, that went to Tsongas. But she is no Bill Clinton and I agree, if she doen't get this one, she is in deep shit.

Obama and McCain get early win in New Hampshire hamlet

DIXVILLE NOTCH -- Sen. Barack Obama won seven of the 10 votes cast for Democrats in the first balloting of the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday in the northern hamlet of Dixville Notch, while Sen. John McCain won the Republican balloting.

Ballots by all 17 registered voters were cast and counted just after midnight on Tuesday in the remote White Mountains town that takes advantage of a state law allowing communities to close polls once voting is over and announce the results.

Other than those for Mr. Obama, of Illinois, former North Carolina senator John Edwards got two votes and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richards received one. New York Sen. Hillary Clinton received none.

Among the seven votes cast for Republicans, Arizona Sen. John McCain won four, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney received 2, and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani won one vote.

To speed things up, in an attempt to assure Dixville Notch would be first to finish voting, each of the 13 voters present had a voting booth. Four others voted by absentee ballot. The balloting was over within minutes as 12 Independents, 3 Republicans and 2 Democrats voted.

I actually redeclared as an R this past week when I had to re-register to vote so that I could vote for McCain in the NJ primary.

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton received none.

Ouch. That's pretty stinging.

Granted, a very small number of votes. But still...

drudge is reporting polling places running out of Democrat ballots
probably an early sign of an Obama landslide

Most definitely. A record turnout will be nothing but icing on the cake for Obama.

EDIT: From Obama's website
Bring Our Troops Home: Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda

With the people that are in his staff, I wonder if he is really genuine.

4% for Paul in NH? You must be joking. I think he'll probably get 20%, pulling him ahead of McCain and Thompson overall.

No, the 4% is his national polling figure. And that's being somewhat generous.

He will do better in New Hampshire. In fact, it is likely to be his best showing.

I just voted. My town usually has a mediocre turnout. Today, it was packed. Tons of supporters for everyone, but the most overwhelming amount of support outside was for Obama and Ron Paul. Ron Paul's support is another surprise because usually the majority of the Paul supporters have been in larger cities.

Another note: They had huge stacks of ballots, but the blue ballot pile was SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the red pile.

Also, for reference, our city will usually turnout about 6,000 votes, but with what I saw, it could be more like 8,000.

I'll keep updating if I end up swinging by the polls again.

I noticed a great turnout at my polling location as well. I also heard that Obama showed up later on after I left. I love when this time comes around every 4 years. :D

Just a question: what the hell is Edward's strategy? In saturday's debate he basically took Obama's side on everything, and hit Clinton as much as he could. Now, no poll puts him winning anything, so is he just positioning himself for a VP slot, again? If not, I don't get his embrace of Obama who is soaring on momentum. Maybe he's looking at running again in 8 years and doesn't want to leave this race with people hating him?

My opinion on it was that he gave up winning NH to Obama, but was fighting for second again.

He hopes that by getting rid of Clinton, her leftover votes will go to him and he can then challenge Obama.

this might just be the cynic in me, but I think Edwards is hoping that Hillary drops out, after which he can play the race card and try to angle himself as the white Obama.

any nominee would have to be a fool to pick him as VP after the way he sabotaged Kerry... as a great man and master politician once said, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again.

Manchester. I always go at 6AM when the polls open. I'm usually in and out in under five minutes. This morning at 5:50AM, the line was out the door well into the parking lot. Great turn out. I've lived here a long time, I don't remember ever seeing that kind of line that early in the morning.
