yea you are right, but to deny that fighters haven't made a huge comeback since the release of sf4 in 09 is just being in denial. it's growing very quickly and these tournaments are paying out tens of thousands of dollars now, with the streams being very professional and having tons and tons of sponsors as well.

but the general add audience that flocks to mainstream fps games can't play fighters for more than 5 minutes because they aren't "pwning n00bs" but are instead getting owned themselves and don't have the patience to try and get better at them.

not that there is anything wrong with that though. but yeah fighters are still pretty niche compared to other big genres.

on another note, i would have LOVED to see another burnout game rather than seeing forza 5.

Lol yeah pretty much.

Maybe if fighters had a arrow telling you where to hit and when to press buttons and had a cut scene or quick time event and regenerating health they might be able to "pwn n00bs"

Yeah but even smash Bros is creeping into the tourneys now...that is another competitor for killer instinct now since it is more casual. Microsoft would have made a killing with killer instinct 2 years ago or so though.

I want to pre-order a console, but I can't jump on MS at this point. I need to see what the PS4 conference is like before I decide.

I don't mean to call you out in particular or anything but I think it's been highly amusing how polarized people have been with the Xbox.
People were PISSED at the Xbox One reveal because games weren't talked about too much.
People at now annoyed because E3 was all about games and didn't elaborate on features people were curious about during the xbox one reveal.

Just seems like people have straight ADHD and can't wait for all details when it's obvious we'll get a slow stream of details about both the Xbox One and PS4 to keep people interested until November. You'd be out of your mind to think that we would get full information now and then leave Sony or Microsoft with nothing to talk about for 5 months.

Expect a breadcrumb trail leading up to November so that gamers will continue to think about these consoles. It's what any smart PR person does.

I understand but as a consumer everything listed on this page:
http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/main

Is a restriction for me. I want to know where is the net positive for me here? You can't just expect to take, take, take and not give. Will we have cheaper games? Will we have Steam-like sales?

This isn't something you play with, you need to be clear, concise and honest on something like this.

an xbla hd release of ki would have made them a killing and they wouldn't have had to do anything other than port.

smash bros shouldn't even be compared to ki. ki is a fighter, smash bros is a party game.

Man, they really fucked up w/ the price. I could see me grabbing it at 359-399, but 499 is just too much.

Also the Xbox One's launch price is higher in the UK than the PS3's launch price back in the day.

PS3 launched at £425 while the One is launching at £429 lol.

Sorry Microsoft.

I've been with you since the first Xbox and a Gold member since Xbox Live launched with Mech Assualt.

I will not support your anti-consumer policies or $499 price tag this time around. Hell no!

Sony - I'm ready to walk through your gates at taste the goodness of quality exclusives like "The Last of Us".

But it has enough of a following to get it into a tourney. I am talking about a game that can sell systems. I don't think killer instinct is that game to be perfectly honest.

Could it have been handled better in certain aspects? Absolutely. I think it's just been amusing to me to see the polarized comments of "THIS IS GOING TO FAIL", to "NO GAMES HAHAHAHA", etc. when we know more we will no more haha. The console ain't coming out any quicker if we know more information after all.

But it has enough of a following to get bit into a tourney.

smash bro's tourneys have been going on forever, it's nothing new. it's also been very popular for a long time, that is nothing new.

it's just that it isn't really a "fighter" in the traditional sense, it is more of a party game with fighting elements. that is all i'm saying.

it's kind of like comparing forza to mario kart, in the sense that they are both "racers".

Do you have a PS3? I personally can't wait for this friday to check out the last of us. I was surprised that MS didn't lower the cost of the 360 with the new design coming out today.

i know, he said ki not ki2/gold.

that is why i just own an actual ki arcade game - it is arcade perfect!

to this day i still remember when i preordered DKC at toys r us, and you got a vhs tape that hyped up DKC. after the credits of that video they have a "secret video" of someone walking into an office and they open a door. you can see them playing killer instinct, on the actual n64. i was so fucking sad it never actually saw the 64 :(. hell on my actual arcade game while waiting for people to put quarters it says "available for your home on nintendo ultra 64 ..." or something like that.

EDIT:

LULZ here it is ... f'ing youtube...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aJJvrFF8JA

skip to like 13:50

Yup I remember the "only on Nintendo Ultra 64" clearly, still makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

SNES in its prime, new systems like 64 and PS1 coming out at long last after SNES CD vaporware, hit after hit, just coming off the high of the SNES reign...

It was the last time I was truly INTO the game industry, where I literally felt physically buzzed when a new copy of EGM came out, I went to E3, and actually enjoyed the smell of game stores (new plastic/electronics smell), and visited daily for new releases. The Ultra 64 announce on Killer Instinct always made me tingly when I hit the arcade. I was practically dying with anticipation.

I'd give A LOT to return to that time and feel like that again.

And N64 turned out to be a huge disappointment. No KI, no RPGs. I had a PS1 on the first minute of launch, FF7 would be the first FF I just straight up stopped playing mid way and never resumed, and game stores started smelling like stale carpet and nerd BO, big money cooperations starting taking over, and its been downhill for me ever since.

E3 2000 was unforgettable. "Beyond Imagination"

i still think it is hilarious that 1/2 the bullet points on this page...

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license

are even bullet points. as if they are actual features that we should thank ms for.

give games to your friends! trade in and sell used games! YOU CAN EVEN ALLOW YOUR WHOLE FUCKING FAMILY TO PLAY YOUR GAMES!!!!

THANK YOU MICROSOFT OMG THAT IS SUCH AN AWESOME SET OF FEATURES!!!

They also have air guitar competitions. I wouldn't compare that to actual musicians. I feel Smash is the same. And the community is a bunch of babies. "Oh Metaknight is OP, ban him from tournament play!" Ha! Can you imagine what would happen if Evo banned Phoenix from MVC3 or Ken from 3rd strike?

i agree, i don't think ki is a huge "system seller" either. i think they may be trying to use it to get into the "niche fighter" market though. like the group who is going to buy consoles just to play fighters. very small market but it exists.

another thing to note is that the evolution tournament uses ps3 as their console. and because evo is the biggest fighter tournament in the country (possibly world?) all other tourneys try to follow evo rules, which means using ps3 as well. so that can be a lot of ps3s out there just for tourney purposes.

well with ki being x1 only, maybe they are hoping to get into that piece of the pie?

just a thought i had on it.

well they did ban akuma from super street fighter 2, but he was a hidden character lol.

I pre-ordered. Mostly a place holder to ensure a day 1 delivery at this point though. I'll probably pre-order a ps4 as well when they become available. If there is any ebay crazies this Christmas I'll be prepared. ;)

A lot of tournaments switch between Xbox and PS3 now. Mostly due to slowdown issues on the PS3 for Marvel. Evo is sponsored by Sony and has to use all PS3s except for games that aren't available. Who knows if Sony will continue to sponsor them with PS4s or if MS would move in. I'd imagine the PS4 will support "legacy" fightsticks with no modification though, so that might get some FGC backers behind it.

did they say anything about xbox1 and wired 360 controllers working/not working on it?
