Voters turned out in Wisconsin yesterday to elect a supreme court judge that wasn't a conservative shitbag. Thanks anti-abortion proponents for giving us the power to change all of the nonsense that's been going on in our state. Of course it was promised to immediately impeach her and she hasn't even started the job yet lol.

Even some diehard conservatives on Reddit are acknowledging that GOP's anti-abortion crusade is backfiring. It's galvanizing liberal voters, and alienating moderate conservatives who only wanted somewhat stricter limits, not harsh restrictions or outright bans.

Of course, this is also part of a broader problem with the GOP continuing to rely on regressive social policies to win voters; it's appealing to a shrinking base, and there's no real plan B (har) for when it's functionally impossible to win elections using those policies.

Side note: it's still ironic how conservatives complained about "snowflakes" and "cancel culture" but are now neurotic about drag queens, transgender people and telling the truth about the US' racist history.

when you have to appeal to the most horrible and shitty people in the country to maintain your base, there is always that risk. which is why they are also working on plan b, overturning the legitimate will of the people. they can't win without those pieces of shit people, so they can't stray too far from their worst instincts. hopefully as our population trends younger and the old racist sexist garbage of the GQP dies off, this schism is further enhanced.

Its funny how political analysts keep pretending the GOP is a legit party, and not a mob of psychos and fascists. Like they keep running stories on political strategy as if it mattered.
They win elections by spewing threats and lies and rhetoric. They do this because it gets them tons of votes every cycle. They have never had a landslide loss. Their bullshit is working spectacularly. The republicans gave up on sane political discourse a long time ago, and I don't blame them. It wasn't working. What I don't understand is why normal news keeps trying to portray them as simply "the other side". I guess it gets click revenue from millions of Americans who haven't figured this out yet.

You can stop hoping. Both on the internet and in real life I have seen people half my age HORRIFICALLY conservative. The tradition of ignorance and hate is much stronger than intellectualism and morality. Those trailer park assholes are probably the worst. They breed like bunny rabbits, collect welfare, spend all day on Fox News (you'll notice most of their straight up propaganda is actually mid day, not evening prime time) and vote for Donald by the millions. But theres also the upper class conservative who clearly sees how all this could work to his advantage, and joins in the cult too, but mostly for exploitation. So no, we cannot hope the Youth Of Today will fix anything. We need to analyze this like the serious social problem it is and come up with real solutions. Cuz frankly right now they are winning.

I read a couple articles about this, IIRC the ACLU is on it. I'll see if I can find one of them.

This wretched, infected pig's anus would 100% be the first one on a flight to the nearest state she could get an abortion in if it happened to her. Because then it would be "different".

Texas judge...

I have 2 questions. Conservatives forever have decried judges ruling from the bench. This judge is overruling a government agency whose job it is to approve drugs and is substituting his opinion for the FDA. Isn't that legislating from the bench?

Second question how does a conservative group have standing to file this case? Doesn't the plaintiff have to show harm to themselves? Who is the plaintiff representing? The drug has been on the market for 20 yesrs and has been proven safe.

As per what is happening in this state, in Florida, in TN, and in others, we have nothing in common anymore. It's time to propose a national divorce. Save the decent states that can be saved and then at least we will have a sane country to work with and try to help the good folks stuck in the GQP land states to escape. If we don't we will end up with no good country.
