The graphics must suck because no one's uploading any screenshots. :whiste:

BTW, is this game DX11?

Not really no, think the line is they left support for DX11 open in the future but its DX9.

I haven't played the game yet so ill obviously reserve my opinion on that but im not as impressed with bethesdas new creation engine as i was with DICE's frostbite 2. It seems to only use two cores and does actually get CPU bound at points according to the benches.

I think its about time every AAA game should be properly multithreaded, ditch DX9 for good and take advantage of DX10/11's better multithreading support. Screw those people still on geforce 7's and radeon x19xx's.

There are Skyrim screens all over the web?

As for the graphics, i also was "kinda" disappointed at first...but you need to PLAY this game, experience it!

For example, that intro sequence looks not that great, bad textures etc....but do me favor and walk around in the woods...GO IN YOUR FIRST DUNGEON...do that first dragon battle! It's EPIC <---

You have the choice now to complain that "the game sucks" because graphics might not the "best" graphics ever....or simply play that awesome game and disregard minor flaws..it's the game overall which makes it great, the atmosphere, story etc..IMO

Apparently, the ambient occlusion setting that you can force in the Nvidia control panel works in this game, but you have to use Nvidia Inspector to enable Ambient Occlusion Compatibility Bit: 0x00000003 (Fallout 3)

Here's a before and after:

Before

After

Also some useful ini tweaks.

Still haven't made up my mind on whether I should buy this game. The humongous potential playing time is rather daunting, seeing as I am a completionist by nature.

Has anyone had a run in with the giants yet? I found out the hard way to just stay the hell away from them at all costs. One decided to chase me through the open field them send me flying at least 400ft in the air when it finally killed me.
Same here.

I used the console to check, and the giant who smacked me was level 35.

Boo, I edited the ini file to turn off mouse acceleration and vsync and now I don't get achievements.

Odd? I'm still getting them.

Lulz of the night. I came out of a cave, saw something in the sky so I looked up expecting a dragon(seen 2 so far) and instead saw a Mammoth falling out of the sky. :awe: Conveniently it died so I was able to take some stuff off of it to complete a little mission I was given. ^_^

I LOVE the new magic system. I HATE the new interface. I'll be playing alot, because this game plays more like Morrowind, but the interface does even more to get in your way than oblivion's did.

From that screenshot it definitely looks like an updated Oblivion/Fallout3 game. Nothing spectacular at all.

I'm not saying its revolutionary or anything, but that it looks perfectly acceptable to me. I think Witcher 2 set a pretty damn high bar....

The graphics are OK but seem like crap compared to BF3. My favorite aspect so far is the skill tree/level up system and the coolness of magic compared to previous Elder Scroll games. Shooting flames from both hands actually feels powerful, not just popping off little orange blobs that make enemies say "ow, quit it."

All the things that people are complaining about should not exist in a newly released product. The graphics and animations are what you expect five years ago. Yes, I do expect something closer to Crysis 2 or BF3. In the first "sewer" section, one of the guards actual ice skated on one leg to move. The hair looks like something from a PS2 game and the trees do not look realistic at all. For reference, I'm running on Ultra settings using a i7-920 and a GTX 580 both overclocked at 1080p.

The controls and UI are also a step backward from Oblivion and not on par with anything recently released on the PC.

In the end, this feels like DLC for Oblivion and not what Bethesda has been showing us for the last 6 months.

Problem is everyone thinks their opinion is fact.

Just an example, you would like the game to be as good graphically as BF3, but in the BF3 thread some people said how crappy the graphics are and how they looked like they were from 5 years ago too.

So you say BF3 looks good (I agree), someone else says it looks like shit.
You say Skyrim looks like shit, someone else says it looks good.

Game seems really fun, what you'd expect from a typical Bethesda open world game, a few things to note:

-even on max, shadows look like shit, WTF? Is there anyway to fix this?
-Crossfire does not work at the moment, your game flickers like crazy, I had to disable Crossfire to get the game to run.
-UI is pretty clunky, but I think I can live with it--not any worse than Oblivion's vanilla UI.
-screen information goes away too fast, I'm trying to read and see what point I just gained in experience or skill and it goes away before I can even read it.

Anyone using dual-wield?

It's COOL, but I can't get over the fact that I can't block (unless it still does it on its own?).

Using two-handed right now just because I'm an HW whore in all games.

The Witcher 2 is on a completely different scale, so the comparison is unfair. As someone who was just playing New Vegas a couple days ago, Skyrim is a tremendous improvement. Ambient animations and music are also very good and make the game much more immersive than the screenshots may portray.

Well, just installed and it tried playing. The entire time playing I'm thinking WTF did I buy this for the PC. The game looks like crap, the UI is horrible and animations are pitiful. I never played Witcher 2, so how do these graphics stack up? This game looks and feels worse than stuff from 5 years ago.

Well, five years ago, they could have made an RPG that looked like this in CryEngine2

.....So I'm not surprised people wouldn't expect better than what they're getting now. I've walked through the above map in the CryEngine2 editor, and it is strikingly beautiful.

Yes but would that run on Xbox 360 with AA on. Would it run on lower end PC video cards today? Not all that well. I too think they could have done better but remember they are tying to make money here so they targeted the lowest common denominator and the console market. Everything else followed from there.

Remember Oblivion was a HUGE success. And so was Fallout 3. Because of this they were no longer looking at a game aimed at Elder Scrolls fans so much as the gaming masses. Sadly this dictated the game would have to run on as wide a range of hardware as possible. Games like Crysis 1 and The Witcher 2 can risk being extra graphics intensive because they have a smaller audience/market and can choose to cater to those with the hardware to run their games.

The controls are horrid. I haven't played much other than WoW over the years, and the controls in Skyrim keep me absolutely detached from the game.

I found assigning the extra buttons on my mouse to the most used keys and making a separate Skyrim profile made things MUCH better. But then I have the extra buttons to assign so this depends on your mouse:

Tab,E,I,R each assigned to its own mouse button.
