Loving it. No complaints here (I'm playing the glorified XBox version-My 2500k@3.5GHz/8GB/HD6850 hooked up to a 47"1080p TV, HDMI audio to a 7.1 system and an XBox360 controller).
No crashes, although one guy disappeared and reappeared somewhere nearby. :)

Xbox 360 controllers might be something others who can't stand the controls, but still like the game, might want to look at getting if they don't have a mouse with enough extra buttons to assign.

Any teleporting mammoths yet? :p

It's just amazing, this game has *everything* what i ever wanted from a RPG. Those are things which are extremely important for the flair and the feel "to be in another world"..such as:

* Day & Night Cycles
* Weather like Rain, Fog, Haze, Snow

For example, i was just going on this somewhat long joerney up that big mountain where the monks are (where i learned those new shouts)

While i was traveling that long way, it got late...and i found myself in the middle of the mountain with snow blowing left and right and it's getting darker and darker.

I could see an AMAZING sun-set high up from the mountain...but i almost "panicked" because the sun set and i did not want to be on the mountain in the darkness, sspecially since i just passed a frost troll which would one-shot my a$$ :)

So i started to get anxious to make it to the monestary before the sun set all the way..etc..etc...you get the idea!

It's just awesome - and then the epic sound track and pretty good voice acting.

I think Witcher 2 set a pretty damn high bar....

Indeed

TW2 definitely set the bar high in terms of detail and character animations (still impressed with how detailed characters looked, and the lighting was great for dx9) but the downside was that none of the areas were terribly large. The world in general was of decent size, but the area you were exploring at any particular time wasn't.

What's very clear to me is that Skyrim looks quite nice from afar, especially when you stand on a ledge and look at the landscape. Just don't zoom in looking for detail up close.

* Day & Night Cycles

Btw, you can change the speed of the day & night cycle. Just like you could in Oblivion.

Currently the timescale is set to 20. That means a full day in-game last slightly over 1 hour in real-time. I think that is too fast. You can't get much done, or it's night again.

In the console, type "show timescale" to see the current timescale. Default is 20. To change it, type "set timescale to 6". That will make an in-game day last 4 hours. More manageable, imho. I think this setting is saved in the save-file, not in an ini. So after making a change, save your file, and don't use older save-files.

Problem is everyone thinks their opinion is fact.

Just an example, you would like the game to be as good graphically as BF3, but in the BF3 thread some people said how crappy the graphics are and how they looked like they were from 5 years ago too.

So you say BF3 looks good (I agree), someone else says it looks like shit.
You say Skyrim looks like shit, someone else says it looks good.

This is true. I've only played the BF3 single player campaign (I never play online), but the graphics never impressed me at all. They were good don't get me wrong, but I wasn't wowed.

The only games this year that really impressed me graphically were Crysis 2 DX11, and the Witcher 2.

I'm hoping Batman Arkham City with DX11 and PhysX becomes the third game to impress me ^_^

Speaking of DX11, I've decided I won't buy Skyrim....until Bethesda updates the game with a DX11 patch.

Anybody else having trouble with their custom control settings not being saved after exiting and re-entering the game?

Went to the store. Got my game DVD in hand. They said I did well to wait one day as it was utter chaos yesterday. They have a wall-full of Skyrim boxes. :)

Darn the packaging is minimal compared to how games used to be, basically just a black plastic DVD jewel box with the disc, two tiny booklets (French & English), and a map. The Oblivion box, with its septim & history book, was a lot more elaborate and looks better on a shelf. Also got the official guidebook. Thanks to the internet, I hadn't bought a guidebook since the heydays of Wizardry and Might & Magic ten years ago but that book is really nice and a brick that will provide me with much washroom reading. Plus it has an awesome detailed map and was 20% off.

Gonna install the game after watching hockey (hey, it's Saturday night in Canada, hockey rules supreme over even Skyrim) and kiss my weekend goodbye (even went to church today so I can stay home tomorrow).

While the graphics might not be "ultimate start of the art"....they are still far from bad...they are actually pretty good and POSSIBLY the best graphics i have seen in a RPG today. Saying not to buy it because of the occasional bad texture or missing DX11 support is silly, IMO.

By the way:

To realize the complexity of the game...the strategy guide alone has 800 pages. The more i play this game....the more i realize this is a game which can keep you busy for MONTHS...

Crysis 2 DX11 with high res texture pack is definitely a great looking game. I'm playing it now, and it compares well with Witcher 2.

For ugly...try LA Noire. I'm also playing that on the PC and while the gameplay is fun the graphics are downright hideous. It's worse than GTA 4 which doesn't make sense to me.

So leveled quest rewards are out this time right? I'm not going to regret getting the thieves guild armor at a low level like I did in Oblivion right?

Played about 90 minutes so far. Fairly pleased. I'm using an Xbox 360 controller. Even at that the interface is a bit frustrating. Getting the hang of it, but it's never going to be great.

I'll take less than mind-blowing graphics for 100s of hours of fun.

Sadly, I must report that as soon as I "got out" and hit the first town I was already wondering about a gold cheat. :)

Well, five years ago, they could have made an RPG that looked like this in CryEngine2

.....So I'm not surprised people wouldn't expect better than what they're getting now. I've walked through the above map in the CryEngine2 editor, and it is strikingly beautiful.

Sadly, consoles will blow to **** and Crytek is going to want a PRETTY penny for using it's engine that massively. Is it just me or are they the only ones that make AAA games with CryEngine?
