I have now the 3 Highres packs enabled AND the TPC installed. Everything is working perfectly and look gorgeous! Skyrim at it's best!

Hmm.. I always thought when installing the TPC, it says to leave the bethesda high res texture pack unchecked in your mod list...? I will enable it and see if anythings changed?

jealous of you guys with the dragonborn dlc! my wallet needs a break for a bit lol

Mine does too! I made sure I had twenty-bucks to allocated for it though. I just done buying the final pieces for this build, I am done for awhile...... Representing Skyrim inside the case though 😉

Thanks to Skyrim, I went from a Athlon X3 @ 2.9 GHz and a GTS 250 1GB to my current build. Pretty much to play Skyrim maxed out with Mods.

is there any way to fix the butt ugle shadows? any time i'm indoors all the characters have these awful 8-bit blocky looking shadows. everything else is perfect. i've tried tons of suggestions from google and nothing is working. help anandtech you're my only hope.

There are some ways, but the way the game renders shadows just ends up creating some very ugly shadows regardless of settings. If you have a decent computer, you should try using an ENB config. Even if you're only using it for shadow detail and not any additional effects, it can make a huge difference. There are a huge number to choose from, so without knowing your specs, I can't really recommend one specifically, suffice it to say that I use this one and the shadows look great (along with everything else). It's a bit out of date at this point because I haven't kept up with the game in the last few months, but it still looks pretty good. For reference, here are some shots I took which show off a bit of shadow detail:

Not perfect, but a pretty big improvement on the vanilla shadows.

I thought there was a fix for what he's describing? He's not really having an issue with all shadows, its the times indoor when the shadows get that ugly checkerboard thing going. I could have sworn there was a pretty simple tweak/mod that got rid of that.

I need a new computer. i try to run those packs and it kills my old crappy machine lol

i got the new dlc. it's the best one yet.

yeah there was a fix posted for it. For the life of me I cannot remember what it was called but I downloaded it and have it in nexus at home. I had the bad shadows before I added all of the texture packs and turned up the quality but it was improved enough for me to not ever apply the 'fix' so i'm not sure if it actually works but I know what you're talking about.

Finished the main story line yesterday and that was the lamest ending ever! lol
The raod to get there is pretty cool but the ending sucks.

I'm starting Dawnguard and can't wait to try Dragonborn! Hope those 2 are as fun as the entire Skyrim experience! Love exploring the lands, it's pretty rewarding!

I will agree with you - the main story ending is pretty lame. Dawngaurd for me was really fun, there are some really cool areas to explore. Dragonborn though is all new, an entire island to explore - 🙂 The Island is pretty huge as well.

I know a page or two back we were talking about the stutter and jitter issue with AMD cards and Skyrim. Even with the 13.2 betas and gaming on my Phenom II @ 4.0GHz is was an issue and even with my 3570K @ 4.2Ghz it was an issue. I can safely say now with my 3570K @ 4.8Ghz it's no longer an issue. The game is incredibly smooth and runs like butter. I haven't seen it drop below 60 fps. That's with a ton of mods and 1080 with 4XAA and 16XAF - Up tp 2600MB of VRAM usage.

the island in dragonborn is smaller then you think. but overall so far dragonborn is great!

Yeah, I am feeling it now. I was playing last night and it is smaller than I thought. Still awesome though. Ran into a group of Werebears after completing the first blackbook and they kicked my ass..... had a run at them again in fully upgraded Werewolf form and dispatched them with ease. I love this expansion!!! The new armors are sweet.

I'm playing Dawnguard and gonna go to Dragonborn after that. Then i'll roam Skyrim again and do all those sidequests that are sitting in my journal...in OP mode with new armor, weapons and all.

Hope there still gonna be a challenge...

It gets really boring. I had a 2H warrior with full legendary daedric and a bunch of ridiculous dual enchantments. I could basically kill giants and dragons with 3 swings of my hammer.

Just max out all the skills. I got to 100 with one handed and block, so I siwtched to archery and maxed that out. Now I've switched to 2H which is quite a challenge because I only have 47 skill in that skill.

I don't think it was mentioned in this thread, but I'll pass it on anyway. If anyone was looking for more freedom in character builds, I would suggest Skyrim Perk Enhancements and Reblance Gameplay. Requiring SKSE and Community Uncapper, it restructures the perk trees such that multi-classing is viable with automatic spell level scaling (aka, destruction will do double damage at 100 skill, illusion spell level caps increase with skill increases), automatic perks at skill thresholds, and a perk reset quest that doesn't require Dragonborn. It has completely changed how I play, so I thought I'd share it.

Dragonborn was a HUGE let down for me. I mean HUGE. I'm sure you've all mostly read about how dragon riding is pathetic, but the story. Oh the story...wait...what story? It literally made no sense and nothing was explained. The end boss, so cheap...I mean...I dunno if I have ever played a game where the boss would cheat so bad and be so annoying.

I won't say too much to give everyone a chance to finish it up, but the Dragonborn boss is the biggest troll this side of the internet.

I tried doing a battle mage, but what I found out was the damage bonus from double spells is too good to pass up. So now its just a mage in heavy armor, which frankly thanks to Skyrims munchkin system isnt that special.
Game really needs set character classes, or something closer to 3 or 4.
