Hi lkailburn. Congrats on your XL2420. I just recently got an XL2411 myself. Boy, these Benqs are smooth! :)

Anyway, just wanted to elaborate on the 64hz bug that Kev refers to.

Like you I played @120hz with the new 13.2 beta and it was silky smooth. But soon I discovered a sort of "water splashing" sound when the fps reached 120-ish. I discovered it while walking outside Whiterun looking up at the sky (the fps shoots up when looking up at the sky).

I had heard others talk about this before but this was the first time I discovered it myself. Ok, so I restarted Skyrim with 100hz instead. Now the water splashing was gone, but another bug was still there: The animal-shakin'-stevens bug or something like that. :) I discovered it while looking at the mammoths from a distance. They were shaking/vibrating like crazy. On the Bethesda forums many others have also reported this.

Ok, so restart and try 85hz instead. I knew this was going to work because I played at 85hz on my old CRT. And yeah, it worked fine.

So now I play at 85 and it's still notably smoother than 60. I tried 120hz + using a frame limiter, but that gave me screen tearing and also not so smooth. For now 85 seems to be the best option for me.

Haven't you seen the 64hz/watersplash/animalvibration bug yet? I think it's just a matter of time unfortunately.

i haven't noticed the splash or animal vibration bugs yet. Since getting the monitor i have been swamped with work and life and have probably only got a couple of hours of play time so far. I'll probably notice it soon

I didn't notice it back when I still used a 120hz monitor. I've since thrown the towel in on current 120hz panels as they're all TN based panels with bad color accuracy and terrible viewing angles. I see no real difference in smoothness going back to 60hz...and never saw these bugs while on 120hz.

Viewing angle isn't too great, I agree with that, but I'm sitting right in front of the monitor so it's doesn't really matter that much.

The colors look great to me, but that may be because I haven't seen an IPS panel in action. Although the black levels will take some getting used to after having used CRT for many years. I suppose the colors matter to me just as little as hertz matters to you.

To me there is a huge difference in smoothness from 60hz to 120hz, so I could never settle for 60 anymore.

Anyone get a chance to play Dragonborn yet? I won't have time until this weekend...Bummer.

Anyone with mods notice anything out of the ordinary? or is everything working fine?

agreed 100%. I have never used an IPS panel so I don't know what I'm missing, but I don't think I could ever go back to 60hz after this. Hell even just a 75hz led panel would be enough. 60 is just brutal.

Is there, will be there a new patch soon for the PC ? Maybe together with Dragonborn ? I'm sure they must have noticed many bugs while developing it?

not sure about a patch, but they did release the high texture pack for dragonborn, you will have another 1.5gb download if you installed the skyrim high texture pack,

What are you guys using to make end game play enjoyable?

As far as I know there is BYOG, which allows you to nerf yourself, or Deadly Dragons/Monsters which buffs mobs.

I hadn't played for awhile but dusted it off once again when I heard about the next expansion (hadn't played since before Dawnguard). I went right to Skyrim Redone and some other mods, like WTF enconters and attempted to boost the games difficulty, however the same thing as my first time around level 20~ to 30 the game because far too easy, and after that (level 51 right now), I can just walk over everything without directly interfering with mob stats.

I started expanding my character outside of the initial build. If I'm rolling a battle mage and I get my destruction up to 100, everything is a cakewalk. But if I start developing archery, now I'm facing extremely high level opponents with an extremely low archery level, and it makes things exponentially harder. I can still bail myself out of trouble with a few spells, but it does add some new depth. It's basically like starting a new character, but against higher level opposition. It's either that or just actually start a new character. The endgame play gets really boring when you just roll over everything with no challenge.

Pretty much what I did. Started out as a one hand and shield, then Mage, then Archer and now 2Handed.

Balla - I thought you banned from the forums? Not trying to be rude -just curious..

Looks like there is a high-rez texture pack just for Dragonborn - I am going to enable it.

same here. I started as an archer with light armor and just slaughtered everything before they even saw me. Now i'm carrying heavy armor and a big ol battleaxe. And wow it's not the same against high level creatures lol. hell i got killed the other day by a falmer after two hits hahaha

Well as luck would have it I had a chance to play Dragonborn today. The Dragonborn HighRes textures along with the TCP work fine. I haven't noticed any glitches or funky looking textures. Looking very good actually - Mods work great so far. But I just explored Ravenrock and that's it.

I was for awhile, even said banned under my name... :whiste:

As for Skyrim I'd rather not level up other stuff, I enjoy my playstyle of xbow/heavy/2h, I use alch for healing and poisons as well as enchanting... Kind of OP I guess >.<

But I think after playing with Deadly Dragons (and will tweak Deadly Monsters) that I can make it work while not having to gimp myself.

It's staggering how much I need to beef up vanilla level 51 dragons...

+300% Attributes
+300% Melee Damage
+275 Armor Rating
+50 Magic Resist (Meaningless as I use none, more for follower(s)
+300% Magic Damage

I actually fight 2 per assult and with these settings I had to pot twice as a group of Dawnguard haters rolled up on me as the Dragons came in.

I can't imagine enjoying this game at all on a console :p

Black levels are another thing - yes. I'm used to my Panasonic Plasma on all of this, so color and black levels with great viewing angles are for me based on matching that. My IPS from Dell is pretty good, and my Alienware 120hz panel was probably the best TN panel I've ever used, but was still just a TN panel.

To each their own.

Not just Dragonborn. Apparently texture packs 1 and 2 are also updated. Includes fixes for the purple log in Riften and the issues with fires, and adds textures for Dawnguard and Hearthfire too.

After buying the expansion yesterday, and installing it, I saw the HighRes Texture 3 was added to the list. So all I have to do is enable it and voilà?

The High res pack for Skyrim had to be downloaded and installed but not this one?

IIRC, you must have the official high res texture pack to get the most out of the TPC...

Do you have the first High Res texture pack enabled? I thought when you install the TPC, you need to "uncheck" or disable the High res texture pack in the Nexus?

I have now the 3 Highres packs enabled AND the TPC installed. Everything is working perfectly and look gorgeous! Skyrim at it's best!
