I think you might be talking about the Game Boy Player, which attached to the Gamecube and allowed you to play Game Boy games on the TV. When the Wii-U and its touchscreen controller were announced, I figured it was the perfect set up for creating a DS Player, since you could have your TV represent the top screen of the DS and the controller's touchscreen represent the bottom screen of the DS. I'm surprised they haven't done anything like that yet.

With the new 3D gimmick I doubt they will. Most of the games look pretty decent in 3D but there are some that get zero benefit from it and don't need it.

I almost always play with the 3D off, so I wouldn't really miss it.

Nintendo really should add the functionality to play you 3DS games on your Wii U.

Will it have enough bandwidth to pass that signal through? I'm not all up on the required bandwidth of 3D.

3D HDMI frames are comprised of two video images stacked on each other with a 10 pixel buffer in between. The audio data is tacked onto the end. I'm guessing that like the consoles, it would output at 720p and either use the 50Hz or 60Hz refresh rate options in HDMI 1.4a.

So, you've got ((1280 * 720 + 1280 * 10 + 1280 * 720) * 24-bit color (24 bits per pixel) + audio data) * 50-or-60Hz refresh rate.

I don't know exactly how their technology works, but if it's already generating two frames and doing some hoodoo-voodoo magic to display them without glasses, then it has the majority of what you need. However, the biggest problem is that the DS and beyond all use two screens. How do you properly represent that on a single screen?

Second screen is the WiiU gamepad?

The 3Ds stinks. I miss the DS Lite, 100 hour battery or whatever

That is one of my main points. If you're saying battery life doesn't matter, I feel bad for you. Why don't they make a super powerful 3DS that lasts 15 minutes, then? You would buy it, apparently.

I'm not going to charge my handheld every few hours, why don't I just play a console game in bed? I know some of you actually take your handheld out of your house, some of us don't, or if we do - it's still being used in bed (i.e. like a book).

The titles on 3DS have been horrid IMO, also, other than the bad ergonomics. Nintendo constantly side steps, steps backwards, and then forward with handheld technology (if not, why are there 50 different versions of the "gameboy"?).

Handheld needs to be ergonomic, light weight, maximum battery life (DS Lite had it all). I'm all fine with keeping SNES style games on the DS, they fit perfectly. The 3D implementation on the 3DS is a neat gimmick not needing glasses, but it does get old.

The hardware in the 3ds is tons better than the previous systems. If you hate it cause of the battery you must hate all technology.

This jump in graphics doesn't equal to the battery life. It's not like it's even close to Vita graphics.

Only reason I am buying a 3ds xl this holiday season. Hoping for a gold 3ds xl.
Vita is the worst. Great graphics, horrible interface, no games. If vita had the Nintendo games we would be having a different discussion.

Who said graphics? But doing 3D takes some work to begin with. Then you have the WiFi and all that stuff sucking it down. Battery tech is garbage IMO. Even phones drain too fast to me.

What's wrong with the interface? It works like your phone does. Touch an icon and it pulls up. I also like the multitasking it can do. The new update allowed you to make folders to place apps and games in as well. I like the vita a whole lot and have been playing it quite a bit lately. I still am going to get a 3ds xl animal crossing bundle though. I'll have both because they each have their unique library.

i was just thinking about this more, and i think that i will actually get a 3ds for this game if they have some bundle that is like $200 or less.

They could do a bundle but I doubt they'd price it at $199 or less at release. I say this because the Animal Crossing bundle is $219 and I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Best Buy had the 3DS XL with Mario Kart 7 for $160 only a few months ago:

Apparently, it was even possible to get it down to $130 via Target price match! So, I'm betting that we'll eventually see some good bundle prices later this year.

You seem to be all over the place in your complaints.

I have absolutely no issue with the ergonomics of the 3DS. It's quite comfortable. As for the size of the screen, the XL is quite lightweight.
This is all a matter of opinion, but I've played it for several hours at a time, and never had an issue with ergonomics or the weight of the unit. Complete non-issue.

As far as battery life goes, also I fail to see the complaint, but I don't take it on the go with me for long stretches. Even when I have not had it plugged in, I haven't noticed the battery draining quickly at all.

I do think the library is a bit weak for this far into it's life, at least compared to the DS and the colossal number of games it had. But there are some total gems to be had, and seeing as how I'm not primarily a handheld player and don't need a AAA+ title released every month, the pace of and quality of titles being released is fine with me.

Dead serious if there is a Zelda limited edition 3DS or preferably 3DS XL, I will be ordering at least 3 of them.

1 to open and play and keep as my primary playable DS platform, one to keep in my collection sealed, and an extra sealed one to trade in a few years for other retro stuff.

Still have my Zelda DS Lite + Phantom Hourglass bundle with box and everything.
