The Confederate Flag Is,...

  • a symbol of racism.

  • a symbol of freedom.

  • a symbol that was once racist, but now no longer is.

  • I am a raging moron.

Because if you don't fight back on anything, activists will take away everything.

Just saw an article the other day about activists wanting J. Edgar Hoover's name wiped off the FBI headquarters. It's just a name, right?

Let's ban GMO's because they create mutant humans, despite the fact that GMO's allow us the quantity to feed the planet. It's just some dna strands, right? Who cares?

Let's ban rock & roll, it's just one music style, right?

Just ban anything we (or should I say those in power) choose to be offended by. That will make for a better country. Yep.

It's just a flag.

No ones banning anything. Removing a racist symbol from public lands seems like the right thing to do. Why? Because the government is supposed to represent everyone equally and it's kind of hard to do that when flying a flag with a direct connection to a movement which literally thinks black people are lessor humans.

somehow it's always a slippery slope, eh? except it almost never is.

each fight and each issue is its own thing. The thinking individual addresses each issue on its own merits, rather than simply take sides based on some arbitrary need to "fight the others."

Those wacky liberal activists have been working on this for a long time.

From the Waybackmachine I present the year 2005:

A Chorus of Hoover Critics

More conservatives join the call to take his name off the FBI Building.

December 31, 2005|Johanna Neuman | Times Staff Writer

"WASHINGTON — Every year for the last three years, Rep. Dan Burton, a Republican from Indiana, has introduced a bill to strip J. Edgar Hoover's name from the FBI's headquarters -- an initiative that has been largely ignored.

Now, however, amid headlines about possibly illegal government surveillance of Americans inside the United States, the effort to rename the Hoover building is starting to attract more supporters, most recently U.S. Circuit Judge Laurence H. Silberman, a Republican who was a leader of the presidentially appointed commission on pre-Iraq-war intelligence.

"This country -- and the bureau -- would be well served if his name were removed from the bureau's building," Silberman, a Reagan appointee, told the 1st Circuit Judicial Conference in June. "It is as if the Defense Department were named for Aaron Burr."

As for rock and roll, I remember these southern American liberals burning Beatles records back in the 60s (Waycross Georgia, 1966)

The confederate flag isn't being taken away from you or anyone else.

Wear that thing on your sleeve for all any of us care.

Just remove it as a flag flown by the state. It's a symbol of a treasonous army that lost a war 160 years ago.

If you're worried about WalMart and Amazon not selling it anymore, you'll have to take it up with FreeMarket™, blessed be its name.

So are you of the opinion that all politicians tell the truth and that they don't pander to the voters in front of them or to which ever ways the polls lean?

I dare you to answer the question honestly!

Why would you have to dare me??? I always answer honestly, quite unlike you libtards.

All politicians are dishonest and liars. Disingenuous at best. That is what he said and after all the people in general that lean to the left swear by old Honest Abe.

You can't get a Confederate Flag cake at Wal-Mart, but you can certainly get an ISIS battle-flag cake. (*boggle*)

Btw, what was the issue with the Dixie Chics?

So he was lying and yet you are now saying he was really telling the truth.

Sounds like you are trying to do some mental gymnastics but your beer gut is getting in the way;)

Regarding honest Abe, yeah I remember 3rd grade history as well. Had you past 3rd grade you probably would have learned more.

I didn't say he was lying, you did. You are always the same trying to put words into peoples mouths that they didn't say. I said all politicians lie. That doesn't mean that everything they say is a lie. You read that in all by yourself.

All I said was he stated that was his stance on the matter. Do you have any proof otherwise? Show it.

I don't want the government to ban the confederate flag. So far as I'm concerned, individuals and non-governmental organizations can display it if they so choose. I just don't think the government should have it on public property.

Also, so far as private individuals and organizations go, I would recommend discretion. For example, it was a highly prudent idea for Ebay to ban the sale of confederate flag merchandise. It was their choice and - since the zeitgeist isn't exactly trending in favor of the confederate flag right now - a good one.

No longer at one of the most well known if not most well known civil war sites. Best quote “A lot of this is happening very quickly." I think the knee jerk reaction needs to slow down. Also, all souvenirs with confederate flags were removed except for books and movies that show the flag in historical context. This is basically a museum for the civil war. They even took down the SC flag.

I believe they were anti-Iraq war and the Christians were pro war
The war opened the doors to Daesh who are anti Christian
Now I see Daesh is Assad's fault according to posters here

Given that the Confederate flag made a resurgence during the civil rights movement I'm not sure how it could be anything but racist. Maybe it stood for other values long ago, but even then those values supported extreme racism.

Some people choose focus on one part vs another when conceptualize things. Hitler pushed laws that made animal cruelty illegal, but nobody think of that when they think of Hitler. The confederates were first and foremost about slavery, but they were more than just that. Their flag is about fighting to keep slavery, but its also more than that.

Shit is complex.

I look at it simply as a nation experiencing growing pains. It simplifies things, ignores a lot of diversive extenuating circumstances, dismisses the minutiae that some like to delve into to buttress a weak point and allows me to take a much wider view of where our nation is and where it's headed. ;)
