Right back at ya, dude.

The first is the single red dot on the satellite image. It's a Chinese coast guard vessel, guarding the mouth of the lagoon and preventing Philippine fishing boats from entering, according to the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Relations between the two countries nosedived after China seized control of the shoal in 2012, and Manila took Beijing to an international court of arbitration in The Hague. That court ruled that China's vast claims to the South China Sea had no legal, historical basis and complained, among other things, that Beijing was unfairly denying Philippine fishing boats access to Scarborough Shoal.

Duterte’s deal with China seen by satellite: Fishing allowed but no change in control of disputed shoal = https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...d-but-no-change-in-control-of-disputed-shoal/

So I steal your home, but now I let you stand outside and maybe let you in to take your possessions from the house piece by piece but I still own the home, it is all good, right?

As I said, a lowlife thief will always be a thief. Facts are facts.

The law of the sea & particularly of salvage dictates that you can keep anything you find floating around in international waters. The Chinese skipper exploited that. It's certainly not grounds for some major international incident.

holy f u c k balls you are a goddamn moron.

You call that a deal? Yeah, a damn good deal for china and chinese and a shitty deal for PH and her people.

A thief gets to keep the stolen goods while the true owner(s) just watch helplessly. What a deal, right?

Yeh, let's just start shooting, huh?

Rights of salvage are such that what usually happens in the end is that the salvors get to keep whatever they found because the cargo isn't of sufficient value to take the issue to international court & offer compensation rather than the found article. Even if they snatched it right out from under your nose. The line between salvage & piracy has always been blurry.

The Chinese will return the underwater glider in due time, anyway. After they figure it out, of course.

"Stupid Americans. Go get that thing & bring it on board."

When you snooze, you lose.

The Chinese & the Filipinos have the right to mutual agreement.

Anyone consider this is Chinese payback for Mr. Big Mouth bragging about talking with Taiwan?

Of course, PH has the right to deal with whoever she wants but if you think that is a good or even a decent deal for PH, then I have several huge mansions in swamp land here that I can sell for you cheap.

My point is.... just like the old saying...those that ignore history are doom to repeat it. Watch how commie china is behaving, just like Nazi Germany in the 30s/right before WWII.

It's not salvage. It was not abandoned, it was not in distress, and it was not even far from our vessel. It was in international waters - it was not theirs to touch or take. The taking of US property in international waters without cause is tantamount to piracy.

Ding, ding, ding. Finally, someone understands my point.

Not sure why he kept saying "rights of salvage" while the facts are clear that the drone was not abandoned or anything. The US ship was just right behind to retrieve it. The chinese just stole it, no if, and, or but about that.

So by his logic, if someone is taking a swim/scuba diving in the water after he anchored his boat, I can just tow his boat to my beach house and claim "right of salvage" while the true owner is just right behind and trying to swim to his boat? Swim faster next time? LOL.

trade sanctions are tricky with China
Indeed. As a former coworker of mine used to say (English not being his first language), "the mind wobbles" at the very thought of the terror that the skyrocketing prices and massive layoffs at Walmart alone would strike into the hearts of millions of Trump supporters... Not that The Donald would give half a flying fuck, of course, I'm just sayin'...

China does this shit because they know obama is China's bitch and wont do a thing. But that Vladamir Putin though.

While it disturbs me how blazingly China did this, what would you have him do over an insignificant research drone?

Could we get a little more posturing & saber rattling? Are the Congress critters pontificating yet? Should we increase military spending?

Of course it was a sleazy trick. And it worked, too. Everything will be just fine once we get over ourselves, I suspect.

It has nothing to do with saber rattling. You are just wrong.

The device is being returned to us so we can put the issue to bed for now. The important thing here is that there are international norms for ships at sea - it's important for us both militarily and economically that they are respected and that we aren't going to be pushed around. I'm not advocating for more military spending or drawing more guns and escalating tensions - there are solutions between full on war and rolling over and apologizing.

I'm sure Obama will ask Michelle for his balls back so he can make an appropriate response to China.

This shows prove that USA during Obama/Hilary the crook during these 8 years have been weak and a laughing stock all over the world,China and other countries have subject America to the ridicule. Now Tramp has to clean this up and try to make America great and respected again, tough job.

sorry if this has already been answered, but if this was a top secret spy drone... why was it painted bright yellow?

that just seems odd.

i don't see this as much more than China trying to be a little bit of a bully near its "home turf". remember when Iran downed and "stole" a US drone? same deal.

all we need to do is run a carrier group through the south china sea in international waters to remind them that there are still rules to the game.
