badges is just another way to get people to play old content over and over and keep subscriptions going. While I like getting better gear without having a very advanced guild, the method by which they allow you to obtain those badges bothers me.

I think they are trying to put all content on ez mode before they release Lich king. That way all casual players can get in on it.

I assume when lich comes out its gear will blow away the gear from outlands, just like outlands blew away the gear from the old world.

I agree, this is just a gear race until Lich King comes out. But im not complaining. The badge gear combined with the nerfs will allow my guild to push through the rest of SSC and TK quicker and possibly see BT before the expansion comes out.

Pretty sure this is exactly their goal.

It might hack off some of the more hardcore crowd but will please the other 80-90% of the people who play.

I personally, don't care either way. My guild is just starting to get ramped up and we would be going to get keyed for everything pretty fast with or with out the end game "nerf" so to speak.

I don't think the gems are that big of a deal. They've never been BoP, so high ranked guilds could always sell them to lower raiders. Badges are just another way to get them now.

oh, didnt know that was official. Last I heard (and since wow stuff is blocked at work I dont read much on it) people were saying Naxx would be buffed and be a pre-req to opening/getting to Lich King.

Could be crazy though - it's early.

I don't think that the gear will be blown away and that you'll see a lot more linear upgrading. The problem is that the pre-BC blues and such were absolutely horrible gear with mostly stats and such. I do not think it's a gear race at all. One of the biggest complaints from "Vanilla" WoW is that some players never got to experience more than MC, BWL, AQ20 and ZG. They completely missed out on the upper-end of PVE and that includes the instance that Blizzard is most proud of: Naxxramas. Because of this, Blizzard is lifting restrictions and making it easier to get at the content so the not-so-Nihilums of the world will be able to at least step foot into these zones and get a boss or two.

Also, some of the gear being added as tokens is not to necessarily help with these encounters!! The reason Blizzard is adding gear is because players are doing PVP to get gear for PVE. Blizzard is trying to segregate the two so players don't feel forced to PVP to get gear if they don't enjoy PVP. Although personally, PVP welfare epics vs PVE "welfare epics" will never be equivalent until they lower badge prices. Honor is not nearly as hard to obtain as finding a decent group to do Heroics/Karazhan with. Unless your guild does it, but still... I'm willing to bet that you can get PVP gear faster than you can get PVE gear.

Note that Blizzard did the opposite when Arenas came out. In "Vanilla" WoW, players wanting to PVP would flesh out the PVP gear with gear from raid instances or simply PVP using raid gear, as the stats vastly outweighed the higher HP from PVP gear (and some of the PVP gear just flat out sucked). When Arenas came out, Blizzard added resilience to try to stop people from using PVE gear in PVP or help stifle it at least.

What they need to do in lich king is actually have the pvp gear and pve gear scale together.

If they do that they are going to need to make PvP gear take significantly longer to get.

or just make raid gear VASTLY better then PVP gear so people wont just use noobtasticially easy to get PVP gear in PVE

I have to say first that I'm not sure what your word "both" refers to.

Also, I think PVP gear scaled fairly well until they started welfare epics. Welfare epics served a good purpose and that was allowing people to jump into Arena without being completely undermined by geared players. But I think this introduces another problem. Personally, I prefer Arena over BGs by quite a bit, so I really don't want to do BGs! So now I have to go up against people and have a 1:1 W:L ratio because of my gear until I can get enough points to get the gear to bring myself up to an even foothold.

The problem with just making old arena gear available for purchase with honor is that PVE gear never changes from an encounter. Also, you have to actually beat an encounter to get loot (or hopefully /pray that it drops 😛). Loot from Murmur isn't going to change when Sunwell comes out, but the PVP gear will upgrade and keep the same price once season 4 comes out. Now, they are kind of two different things as you can say that once players begin to get S4 gear, their team will be "tougher" to fight where as PVE encounters are static.

I think before when they had blue PVP gear and season 1/2 had the epic gear... that's kind of when it was balanced properly.

actually if they just removed resiliance totally then the PVE/PVP gear issue would vanish, could keep your arena gear just replace resil with stam or somethning else, you could still use the weps for PVE but the armor would be lacking in usefull stats for raiding like Hit rating and expertice, raid gear would also work for PVP weps might be more powerfull but the gear would lack alot of stam..

they IMO really need to do something about points selling , it basicially kills the while idea of a ladder system or having ratings on items when any idiot can just pay someone to do it for them

Noone on my server sells personal rating, only points.

The S3 1h swords are good enough that I'd do it, too... I don't have time or inclination to pvp enough to get 1850 or I'd have them by now.
I guess Talon of Azshara and S2 OH will have to do for now.

This is not accurate. Jeff Kaplan already announced at BlizzCon that the drastic changes in gear upgrades that we saw from Vanilla WoW -> TBC will be seen again for TBC -> WotLK.

This is true. This whole ez mode thing that we are seeing for 2.4 is a direct response to the complaints they got concerning what you posted here. I don't think it is a big deal. The hardcore players got to be king for a while and they will be king once again when WotLK comes out. Passing the torch for a little while shouldn't be a concern. They have already proven their worth.

But then you would be left with the original problem which they faced. That problem was that in order to be the best at PvP, you needed to raid. That's not very cool. I would be pissed if I needed to PvP in the Arena every season just so I could have the best gear for raiding.

Currently, there is no reason to do PvP for PvE gear with exception of that damn trinket for Archimonde. Sure, having a set of "stam" gear is nice but it isn't that necessary when you compare the PvE gear which is supposed to be on par with the PvP gear.

Well, technically it is accurate because that's what I think 😛. Whether or not Blizzard will follow it is not necessarily true. I do think it's a bit ridiculous that Blizzard wants another huge upgrade. As I described earlier, the upgrades in TBC were essential as the boost from blue instance gear to raid epics was huge. It was large enough that Blizzard could easily throw in ZG as a pre-raid (referring to large-scale) and not make the upgrades trivial (for blue-equipped players). Sure the epic gear is definitely better than the blue gear, but the blue gear in TBC is definitely on a higher level (literally ... the item level is higher! lulz) in comparison to where vanilla WoW's gear was at.

Although one thing I find annoying in WoW gearing is how Enhancement Shamans get the shaft. Most normal instance mail gear is designed with hunters in mind as Shamans don't need MP5 as much as a Hunter would want it (still isn't the top of their priorities, but it's helpful for them). It's to the point where I ignore sites like wow-loot.com because they refuse to list leather items for a Shaman. Personally, I'm aiming at grabbing some "rogue items" to boost my DPS further. This wouldn't be so bad if the Desolation set didn't have some of the drops in heroics. I really don't have much of a desire to do it... but I might just have to go and PVP again to pick up the S1 axes for my Shaman. I originally did this and purchased the blue PVP axe before they made S1 available. Unfortunately for me, if I would've just quit playing before I bought the axe, I'd have a 20dps (!!) increase as well as some minor stat increases.

Yeah and hardcore players can still make fun of us saying we had to be babied just to get into SSC/TK 😛.

I see a lot of people grabbing the PVP weapons for PVE because they usually include PVE stats such as +hit which the armor doesn't have. I know there are people in my guilds that use the PVP healing mace.

I believe his point was to state the reverse since he's the opposite of the point made. In other words, he said it'd suck to have to PVE to get gear for PVP and that he'd hate to the do the opposite... PVP for PVE gear since he's a PVE'r.
