DICE will launch a major Battlefield: Bad Company 2 update for PC to fix a number of known issues with the shooter.

Here's a list of confirmed fixes that will be included in the update, which has yet to be given a firm release date, but is due "very soon".

  • One of the Insignia's requiring an unobtainable Bronze star for the tracer dart - requirement removed.
  • Hit registration changes brought over from MOH to BC2; several bugfixes, the client<->server send rates have been increased, some of the hitboxes themselves have been changed. This will increase the accuracy of guns, but will not make much of a difference to the knife.
  • Removed the blue box behind the chat window.
  • The 2-second immunity when spawning/being revived can will now be immediately remove either by firing, zooming, or any movement (move, crouch, jump). Merely looking around will not remove the invulnerability. In essence: If a person moves, he is never invulnerable.
  • 3D vision fixed.

couple thoughts:

its too bad they don't fix it by making dart guns lethal and thus make it possible to actually be awarded medals for all these tools not intended to be weapons

not sure how I feel about the MOH hitboxes, I've heard people say that they're terrible but I know the games are pretty different in how they play so we'll have to wait and see.

its about friggen time they fixed the blue box

FINALLY they do something about the invulnerability garbage, I've probably died a thousand times from someone I emptied 20 bullets in to no avail. I can understand spawn invulnerability when you spawn in your own base to prevent base rape, but when you spawn on a squad mate, that's a privilege and should not be awarded with BS like invulnerability.

couldn't care less about 3D vision

lethal tracer darts would be awesome! thats would be more embarassing than the smoke grenade kills. they also need to add in defib kills counting for medals

defibs are far and away the hardest kills to get, I can understand why they would never consider it for medals, although it would still be fun.

my favorites are when I'm going to revive a downed teammate and an enemy happens to be passing over the body at the same time and I get a kill and revive with one shot

I'm gonna go ahead and call bull shit on DICE, it takes them 8 months to get a decent looking DLC for BC2, yet it takes them 3 weeks to add 2 game modes and 2 new maps to MoH, i'm done with this shit, never buying a DICE game again...

Tsk tsk! Gully is slacking today, this news was released 6 hrs ago. :D

Patch tomorrow!

http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2010/10/28/patch.aspx##

How to get the game client updated
* If you are using Steam: the Steam client will automatically begin updating your game client once Oct 29th, 6:00 AM (GMT) has passed by.
* If you are not using Steam: then the game’s online updater will find the version online at the same hour and ask you to patch.
* If you are not using Steam: we will also publish an offline updater. Download links will be added to this blog post during the day.

Here is the complete fix-list for the patch
- All Weapons Bronze Insignia requiring an unobtainable bronze star for the tracer dart – requirement removed.
- Improved Hit registration made through several fixes and some of the hitboxes themselves have been changed. This will increase the accuracy of guns.
- Blue box chat window removed
- The 2 second immunity when spawning/being revived will now be immediately removed either by firing, zooming, or any movement (move, crouch, jump). A Spawning Player can still orient passively in the Game World..
- 3D vision fixed.
- Fixed slug shotgun zoom crosshair on PC so they better represent the long range accuracy. Crosshairs now close more on PC, similar to consoles.
- Reduced slug shotgun hip accuracy to require zooming for consistent long range accuracy. Hip accuracy is now on par with the semi automatic weapons.
- Fixed a bug on PC where the G3 would do less damage than intended.
- Fixed VADS turning sensitivity on PC so it performs like the ZU23.
- Reduced VADS push back and damage to balance it with the ZU23.
- Fixed a bug where vehicle countermeasures would fail to remove tracer darts at high speed.
- Reduced the reload time for vehicle countermeasures.
- Slightly increased the AT4's damage vs armor to emphasize its anti vehicle role while keeping it balanced vs armor.
- Increased the AT4’s top speed and acceleration so users spend less time exposed when firing.
- Increased the AT4's splash damage so it competes with other AT weapons vs infantry. The AT4 still has the least splash damage of all AT weapons.
- Reduced the splash damage of the Carl Gustav to bring it in line with other explosive weapons. The Carl Gustav still has the most splash damage of all AT weapons.
- Increased the 1 shot kill range of the M95 body shot to counter its lower rate of fire.
- Fixed a bug with the SVU that gave it better close range damage than other semi auto weapons.
- Reduced all weapon damage to the MCOM by 50%.
- Fixed an C4 vs MCOM exploit on Atacama Desert.
- Fixed a bug with FOV when aiming the M1911.
- Lowered the close range damage of the AN94 to highlight its long range role.
- Increased the accuracy of the F2000 on the move to highlight its role as a mobile AR.
- Increased the close range damage of the shotguns to give them a greater advantage vs slugs.
- Slightly lowered the damage of the M60 to balance its accuracy advantage vs other LMG's.
- Slightly lowered the damage of the MG3 at close range to balance it with other high rate of fire weapons.
- Slightly increased the damage of the UH60.

If you have any questions regarding the patch, feel free to contact me on my Twitter.

Next PC Patch details!

Hi Battlefield fans! We are happy to announce the release of the new PC patch version R9 for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on October 29th.

We examined the different issues submitted by the community in the thread called "My biggest issues" on the forum. Additionally we have collected feedback for some time now and incorporated a lot of community wishes, so we are really excited to release this.

Please note: All game servers will need to be taken down for updates. The maintenance period starts on Friday, October 29th at 06:00 AM GMT. Most of the servers should be back up by 10:00 AM GMT. The patch is roughly 900 MB in size.

Yeah - I spent a fair bit of time to get those (I suck with non-auto shotguns) and was not pleased to see that it was bugged

my favorites are when I'm going to revive a downed teammate and an enemy happens to be passing over the body at the same time and I get a kill and revive with one shot

Thats about the only time I can get a kill with the defib

Overall it looks like some good changes!

900mb patch for balance issues? wtfbbq

I suspect that the game's weapon data files have both asset(graphics/sound...) and properties together. Shame they're too lazy to write a file updater to just only update the few small text changes in the properties. It'd be like 50MB patch instead of 900MB monstrosity.

It seems as though it's a little harder to revive now. I think you have be somewhat close to the person and you might even need to be crouching (not sure). I always thought it was a little too easy to rack up those revive points. A little more realistic now I suppose.

Re: BFBC2 Vietnam release date

Saw some chatter on Twitter about Amazon posting the release date of BFBC2 Vietnam as December 31, 2010.

Took a look at several English language versions of Amazon (.com, .co.uk, .ca) and see no references at all to this.
Amazon.de (Germany) does seem to say the game will be released Dec 31, Here. (Google translation Here)

Blackhawk is way OP now, they need to bring back faster tracer darts, or at least let the dart gun carry A LOT more darts, if not infinite darts. Good chopper pilots can fly fast and far enough away in a circle around the defense that hitting the chopper with a dart is a feat in and of itself, so when a dart actually connects (and assuming someone on the defense is aware and competent enough to know how to lock on to the dart with and RPG/CG) the chopper just uses its flares and continues on its merry way, forcing the darters to try all over again and likely won't hit the chopper until the chopper has flares ready to go again. Of course they upped its damage so its miniguns just rape everything in sight now.

Saw a guy go something like 46-2 as a gunner on a BH, made me think he was cheating for sure (was a low rank) but he was otherwise unspectacular on the ground.

Really the only sure fire way to do damage to the BHs is with the M95, but most snipers are too stupid to realize the M95 can do direct damage to light vehicles/choppers, although they're likely too selfish to help out anyways, a common problem naturally inherent to the class.

I'm pretty sure every patch contains all the changes since the DVD was pressed. So, if you just bought the game, install it and run it, it downloads the latest patch and brings you up to where everyone else is.

You don't have to download and apply all 9 patches since release.

Unless they changed this, and I saw nothing indicating it, shooting things other than the UAV down with the m95 takes FOREVER. I've only ever destroyed maybe 2 heli's with the m95 and that was on accident trying to snipe the pilot out. It takes practically all the ammo you can carry as sniper to bring down one chopper. It's really not worth it when a well aimed rocket can do so in 1 go.

I know you're trying to add to the convo here with your game knowledge but I'm pretty sure I have more experience on the matter here. The goal of the M95 is at the very least a damage deterrent, and with luck, hopefully every sniper using a bolt action rifle for sniping is using the M95 in order to do that damage, and with enough it will take down the chopper pretty easily.

Also using the extra ammo perk gives you 40 total shots, plenty for engaging a chopper, too many people unnecessarily crutch on the 12x upgrade instead of the extra ammo, the standard scope is more than enough for all but the longest of sniper engagements. And a true team oriented squad will have an assault to make the ammo point moot.

Regardless, I guarantee you'll run out of ammo trying, like an idiot, to shoot down a skilled chopper pilot with a gustav or AT4, long before a good sniper will, who can hit the best choppers with 90+% of their shots and at the very least drive the chopper away.

Again, even if the chopper isn't destroyed the damage is a deterrent. On my own I've successfully driven off almost every chopper to at least flee for repairs. With luck I can rally my fellow sniper teammates to switch to the M95 and start helping me with the chopper and we can then become a true threat to bring it down, as I can guarantee most players aren't aware that the M95 can be used to damage choppers - one of the M95's assets that make up for its otherwise glaring weaknesses (ie much slower reload time and firing rate). Ability to one-shot bullet destructible trees at any distance is another such advantage that most players don't know about, the other bolt action rifles will require two shots at range to bring down a tree.
