Cloak and dagger is a sidegrade. I've got about 100 hours of spy I think... and I never have issues with staying in stealth. It's nice if you want to be lazy, perhaps.

Huntsman works extremely well if you are good with it. ;) Maybe you just suck at using the Huntsman?

Uh, no. Just my opinion, maybe?

CuZ I'm uber leet!

Jarate is amazing. SMG is useless so anything would be an upgrade, but I've dramatically improved my sniper gameplay with it. Each round I can get 2 or 3 kills through jarate checking a spy, followed by kukri if they're close, unscoped sniper if mid range, or full scoped sniper if they're running away.
I've saved my lives countless times by extinguishing fires with it too. My favorite unlockable by far

It seems like razorback needs an additional perk or something. As it is, it only affects being backstabbed and as you said, it's easily visible.

With jarate and the pyro's air blast both two new ways to put out fires, pyro definitely got a little nerfed.

My comments on the new items I've gotten:

1. Hunstman - I can't use it. Tried playing the Sniper for quite a while with this thing yesterday and I could barely hit anyone. I got one headshot, but it was a complete fluke; I was trying to shoot this Medic that was heading into a tunnel on Dustbowl, but my arrow went left and down and nailed a cloaked Spy in the head that was crouched next to him. The guy claimed hax, but it was a complete fluke, which he realized after looking at my score! Maybe I need to try this thing some more, since I see a lot of people using it and loving it, but damn, it's just horrible for me right now.

2. Razorback - Pretty indifferent to this thing. I leave it on because I rarely use my SMG anyway, but I don't think I've had any spies try and get me while I had it on (maybe it's working then?).

3. Cloak & Dagger - I am now a semi-competent Spy because of this thing. I love just being able to stop anywhere in plain sight and recharge the cloak. It gives me time to strategize and plan routes. Just phenomenal, if not a little overpowered. Easily one of the top 3 unlockables in the game for me.

I played with the huntsman for a bit and it wasn't bad. I don;t think it's an upgrade over the rifle though. Maybe on maps that don't have much open areas. Though now the sniper rifle has the crosshair for no scope shots.
I had a similar lucky shot. I was aiming at a soldier but didn't lead enough, so instead I got the medic that was healing him as they ran by. :D I think everyone will get better with it as they learn how much to lead. Most of my kills were on targets that wasn't moving or moving very slow.

I'm going to give it another try tonight to see if I can get the hang of it, so we'll see. I'm not the greatest Sniper to begin with and this thing just takes me to a whole other level of craptacularity. :(

i never used to play sniper because they ruined the rifle in TF2. in TFC/QWTF you charged the rifle with the left mouse and zoomed with the right, so you didn't have to be completely blind all the time.

with the huntsman and jarate, however, it's now one of my favorite classes. long shots are impossible unless your target is immobile, but it's great for mid-range offense or defense. with big groups of enemies, just fire fully charged shots at head level and you'll easily get a few kills.

i've also gotten the dead ringer, which is possibly the most useless thing ever. if doesn't even work half the time, and when it does you still usually die because it takes a complete 'tard to not notice you're still alive. not that i really care, i despise the spy class and all the new perks valve gave it with TF2 (fuck cloaking, fuck spies running around in a circle with a knife and somehow backstabbing everyone).

i've gotten no other new unlocks. in all i think i got about six or seven items in eight hours or less. then the game just stopped giving me stuff, and i've now played at least five hours without an unlock.

Huntsman is really good, possibly OP. I'm getting owned a lot more now as demo from that weapon. It's only easy to dodge at medium to long distances.

Now, when I see a sniper using it I just give them a quick shot or two to the head with the Ambassador instead =). I haven't unlocked the Razorback yet, but I doubt I'd want to equip it. Seems to only hurt you.

I think all the people crying about the FREE update should think about it as far as Valve making money from these TF2 patches which no doubt have a very real cost to make, IE from the new players on the free weekend. The time-based unlocks are great for them and a good way to get them to want to pay up. Remember, these guys don't have any items and aren't really getting dupes. But maybe I'm just happy with the two new items I've found so far.

They should have implemented a system by where you get tokens / points. So say for each hour you play you get 1 token, for each domination 1 token, for every time you get 4 kills in a row, 1 token, for each cap 1 token, etc. And then have items cost money so that you can buy what you want. Achievements could be like 5 tokens. This rewards all sorts of play behavior for all people and is much better than the current system IMO.

I don't have the Huntsman yet, but have been raped by it when playing every class but sniper. I have more or less counter-raped every huntsman carrying sniper with my rifle because I can dodge their arrow. Most are probably still used to the hit-scan bullet of the rifle, and do not adjust. The few times I've been killed by a Huntsman sniper, as a rifle sniper, were when I didn't see the guy, or walked into the path of the arrow meant for someone else.

Razorback is nice. Only complaint is it can't be "reloaded", so the spy will probably come back for you out of spite.

I don't think I've seen any of these, or even really heard about them until now. I did see a Scout without any hat at all and it looked really weird.

After the release of the update I've been playing 3-4 hours per day and got about 1 upgrade per day. all duplicates. I wish they still would have at least kept the ability to get upgrades via achievements. no way I'm going to grind this shit anymore, this game is going to halt at lest on my part. If I'd wanted to play with RNG I'd still be playing WoW.

how much playtime do you guys have?

i hadn't been playing before the update, and got plenty of unlocks in the first few hours. then, at about 7-8 hours, they just stopped.

it seems like they've implemented some system that only gives the unlocks to total newbs or people who play an hour or two a week.

That's my guess. As of 02/25/2009 I had played for 303.3 hours. As of yesterday it was like 390 hours. I've gotten ONE unlock, but it was a duplicate.

I've been playing on the same server and keep seeing noobs get shittons of new stuff! One guy had 7 hats in one evening!!

holy fucking shit, i've never seen ANYONE get a hat. and i've seen like two people wearing them.

this whole system is definately broken as hell.

edit: it also doesn't track my stats anymore. i reset them after the update to get rid of inflated achievement grinding scores, it tracked for like three or four hours and now doesn't work anymore.

Got a batter's helm. Deleted it because I didn't notice two separate delete buttons. One in the top right, and one in the bottom left. This occurred because I had too many items and now have to delete them as I get new ones.

I have 5 cloak and daggers, 2 dead ringers, 3 ambassadors, 2 huntsman, 3 razorback. BUT NO GODDAMN JARATE. I'VE GOTTEN OVER 50 ITEMS. GRRRR!!!! lol then again others haven't gotten jack shit. Still, tf2 is the only game I play so I'm dissapointed.
