awwww thanks guys! I haven't been able to play much lately since my wife went into the hospital. I'm just kinda keeping my head down hoping 2.6 pops out soon.

Wife is a trekkie too, so baby's going to be in spacey-type onesies, etc. I'll have her on dual sticks by time the PU goes into commercial production!

Welcome to the club ;) Sleep is for the weak. Enjoy every moment of it, it goes by too fast, and my oldest is only 2 and 7 months. Enjoy the zone coverage lol

Congrats, pal! Get an Avenger shaped crib.

The wife picked out the crib, but I'm thinking about building her a space ship bed. Wife's a huge Star Trek fan.. so not sure if I could get her to agree to something that isn't Star Trek.. but maybe.

Sorry if a baby with wires triggers you guys for w/e reason, but I think this pic is adorable. It looks all futuristic like she's in the matrix. I kinda want to photoshop this so it looks like she's in a space ship =)

Gratz TechBoy.

Newborns to look like cyborgs for a bit, until the myriad doctors and nurses decree that they can be safely cut loose.

Find a way to let your wife sleep.

Herald looks very detailed. The Multi-Function Displays seem to be readable.

Herald is $85 now. Let's see if they increase its price above $100 when it will be flight ready (in 2.6).

I don't follow closely enough to understand why this is significant. Yes, it looks smoother than the clunky FPS sequences we've seen before. Is there actually some important change or did they just optimize like crazy and slap a fancy marketing term on it?

Significance is that the FPS movement and camera action has been rather clunky since they're still debugging a lot of foundational systems. That combined with people rarely getting 25 frames per second has made most people get used to it being choppy and clunky.

The vid shows 60fps gameplay, as well as a very well tuned camera system.

Prior, there's been either too much head bob or so little you just feel like a floating camera. This vimeo vid shows a very polished perspective that nobody's really seen before.

It's significant because it shows and reiterates that the gameplay will be just as smooth as any other game out there once more things are in place.

So optimized like crazy with a fancy marketing term. ;) Still, progress is good. I never understood why people spazzed about it so much before when FPS handling was so blatantly WIP. Although, I wonder what graphical optimizations they've done to benefit the FPS will also carry over to the space combat.

It's more than that. CIG has been doing unified animations for their first person and third person views. The way to use this and implement a first person camera is to mount the player camera on the eyes of the character model. This creates some excessive bobbing as well as weird movements when the camera is panned to the upper and lower limits.

They're still using that system since it's what works best for utilizing the unified animations in first person, but they have modified its behavior to product the smooth movements you see in that video.

That was nice. Definitely smooth. But too smooth in my opinion. It looked/felt like a camera floating through space. Not a head on person's body.

See, I thought the current setup was way more 'floaty camera' than the vid. It does seem a little floaty in the vid, but imho it's significantly better than the current setup. Right now there's no headbob at all and it's clunky (likely an fps issue).

I thought they were about the same, but the high FPS made it seem smoother and more floaty. But I'm confident CIG will find the right balance between realistic and sickness inducing.

Watch that video a few more times. The "death ding" has to go.....I don't know what the heck that was supposed to represent, but it does seem realistic to hear a ding everything you make a kill.....

WOW.

Just wow.

The link is to an HD vid RSI just posted demonstrating their vision stabilization tech.

And it's nice, to say the least.

Much smooth, such fluidity!

I agree. This is darn near perfect IMO. But mark me down as someone who feels like headbob (unless running) is pretty unrealistic if it's very noticeable at all. There's a reason why we notice headbob when it's used too much in a video game, but we barely notice it at all when we're walking around IRL.

I hope that in 2.6 (which they say will focus on Arena Commander, among other things) will fix the damn bug that places another pilot in your cockpit, blocking your view. This is an old bug, but it wasn't this frequent. Now I have it almost half of the time.

I think the ding is audio confirm for testing, just like all the npc audio callouts of what they're seeing/thinking/doing.
