Anyone want to add anything to this list? I just picked up a Redeemer to look at and mess around with that will be CCU'd to a BMM (already have the $0 CCU waiting) when the BMM gets closer to being ready. Until then I can enjoy the anticipation with the Redeemer community.

I have the basic Aurora. If it's worth adding to the list I'm not sure.

I'm perfectly happy with it because I'm new, but having seen some of the other ships, I feel like I have a go-kart and everyone else has a cadillac!

You'd be surprised at what that go-kart can do. You probably have the Aurora MR which only has two weapon hardpoints (two size 1 laser repeaters under the chin).

But for inspiration check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnDsBp5p1-o

This guy is flying an Aurora LN (which has more weapons than the MR) but the hull is the same. And it shows that a good pilot in a weak ship can defeat a bad pilot in a strong ship (but I should note that this was in 1.3....we're now in 2.0 and a LOT has changed).

The pilot's left thumb at 40 seconds.. D:

Can I post vids?

Here's a vid of me checking out dying star late last night. I'm still very unfamiliar with the controls and I'm using an xbox controller. I'm going to have to make a chart.. jeez.

So far so good! I really like it.

You might enjoy flying more without LAM (look-ahead mode) on. I forgot what the keymap is because I have it mapped to another button, but on a keyboard I think it's "Right Alt-M."

Without going too far into the mechanic, that's why there is a delay in your input and the ship response. You're essentially aiming your gun and the ship is playing catch up.

Turn it off and you will "fly" your ship instead of your reticle. :) Much better for normal flight, IMO.

I love everything about the Redeemer. When they start offering modules for it (they said they would) I'm going to make it my primary mid-size explorer.

I originally bought a Freelancer DUR for that role, but there's no way I'm going to go exploring space peering out that tiny front slit.

I like the typical great Aegis cockpit view of the Redeemer:

redeemer8.jpg

Depending on how it flies, I could also see it being my primary escort support ship, because as of right now it has massive forward firepower (I expect a nerf) and is supposed to be fast and maneuverable. My Vanguard will really have to shine if it's going to impress me more than the Redeemer.

At least you'll be able to enjoy it for the next year or so until they get around to the BMM (sorry...I have a feeling that one's a long way off).

My concern there would be if it has extended range fuel tanks or if they're available. It doesn't give the impression it has a great range.

Edit: BTW, do you have trouble getting in the lower turret room right now? It's kinda buggy for me in hangar in 2.0. I have to run and jump up the stairs to the upper deck and I can't get through the door to the turret room.

Oh, I know. I've had a slight crush on it from the first time I saw its concept art. Even if I like the Redeemer (which I do), I'll CCU at the last second without hesitation. The BMM will be much harder to buy in the PU than a Redeemer, so I'll just buy one again with UEC. Part of why I got the Phoenix for now, it's easier than trying later in the PU. I will probably pick up a Carrack CCU for it next time they're available in case the Phoenix flops, but I have a good feeling about it with a rework.

I haven't tried getting into the turrets yet, because in all my ships I indefinitely get stuck in there. ;)

I also have to jump up the stairs to get up to the main deck.

I wouldn't expect any of that stuff to get worked on though, as they're completely reworking the Redeemer for the new ship systems (they're expecting it to grow a bit with the remodel).

I'm hoping the extended range bit will be solved with the modules. They specifically said there would be an exploration module for it. When I read that I did a Carlton dance, but who knows how long before we see that. I'm sure they'll get the gunship version working far before that.

The lore is awesome!

STLYoungBlood's youtube channel has had me captivated for 2 days straight.

He has nicely explained bits of history about the star systems. He still has many to do, but this means there's a steady flow of new lore coming out.

Here's a nice example of the Nyx System.

It'd be great if they utilized some of the cinematic capture capabilities of the cryengine to animate some of the lore.

How are you enjoying flight with your controller? I've never tried using one, but it looked like the default mapping was a bit funky.

I'm trying, but I get flustered very easily.

I'm a keyboard/mouse guy, but I figured it'd be more intuitive with a controller.

Frankly, I was wanting to try and put a graphic together tonight that I could print out or pull up on my tablet. I've been doing the basic training over and over to try and burn in the controls.

One thing I noticed about the default mapping is very poor strafing setup. IMO, strafing is best done with analog controls, so I would replace the left-stick "Free-Look" mapping with vertical / lateral strafe, and then forward / backward strafe to the analog triggers. You don't need throttle - - it's exactly the same as forward strafe.

This game gives you a lot of freedom of movement with the flight model (which I think is awesome), but it's hard to take advantage of it with those movements tied to digital control.

Here's a little video I just shot just flying around Kareah in regular SCM mode. Doing little things like peeking the nose of the ship into the window @ 33 seconds and especially close orbiting the spinning Aurora @ 55 sec. would be extremely difficult without analog strafe control.

Awesome video Stringjam (awesome flying too!)

Thanks. Just messing around with ShadowPlay, trying to figure out how to get a HD/60FPS video up to YouTube. Works great. I really like it...I can't tell a single ounce of performance hit.

derp. M50. tried from p-72 and 315p. I'm guessing it's because the ship itself isn't currently for sale either.

Dude. I love the M50. As of right now, it's the only ship that actually behaves even remotely close to the glory of patch 1.3. It's the only ship that you can get in and orbit on opponent who tries to out-turn you.

I'll never melt this ship....it's been through ups and downs, but it remains the most agile ship in the game. Even with minimal front-facing firepower (a pair of solid mount S2s), you can still do well because of the agility.

If you get in line-of-sight of a SH, you'll explode within seconds, but if you stay out of the fire and keep the guns on target, its the most satisfying kills you'll ever get. ;)

m502.jpg

The Gladius SHOULD be this good, and it WAS, but it's bugged in 2.0+. It has always been bugged in some way, but it's my favorite dogfighter in the game. It had ridiculous strafe power in 1.2 and was just about right in 1.3, but now it's like a drunk figure skater. When they get it back to point, I'll get back into the cockpit, because apart from the M50 it's THE ship for the folks who like to fight with agility and speed.

I'm keeping my 315p and 350R around though, because they're do for a rework. The 350R is just completely badass, but it's ALWAYS had this stupid boost strafe bug that makes it unusable in BR. If it wasn't for that, you would see a ton of of top pilots flying it. Once they get the handling figured out on the 350, I'm going to spend some serious time in it to see how well it does. It's just wicked fast, and the 300X series aims with a joystick better than every other ship except the Hornets.

lol my gf, whom is obsessed with Star Trek, and watches 4-5 eps per night on netflix, doesn't seem to like that there's a space game I'm going to play for a few hours per night...

You have to get her onboard. That's what I did with my wife and now I'm past Concierge status... I think she has ship fever almost as bad as me.

Star Trek TNG was the best sci-fi series in life. Just saying - because it's the entire reason I bought a Carrack and want to spend the rest of my life exploring the 'verse in SC as pseudo Captain Picard. ;)
