Actually I think it would be pretty tough to weed through all the archived threads and sort them into the correct new locations.

Just leave them in the original software thread. I don't mind starting new content in a new forum. If there are active threads that have programming content, mods can move them as necissary.

We, the people, can mark threads that should be moved, we could put a case sensitive keyword in all our posts in other forums that should go into the programming forum, then all the admin has to do is run a query on the db to change the forum ID of all threads that contain the given keyword.

EDIT: Jeeze guys, a bunch of programmers shoulf have thought of this by now.

Maybe we'll get our new forum for Christmas. That would rock. :)

On a side note, I had an idea inspired by this thread... I wanted to open up various "programming challenges" to the ATOT community and see what we could accomplish as a group, like a quick board game AI or something along those lines. I think it would be interesting to see what the collective programming knowledge or ATOT could do with these simple little exercises, and maybe some really useful stuff could come out of it with time. I know that the vast majority of what I've learned about programming has come from looking at other people's code and it would be a great learning experience for me and everyone else. I wouldn't even bother trying to do it right now, the threads would just get smashed under the HL2 and WoW dribble, but it would certainly become possible if we had a dedicated forum.

Just a thought... would anyone be willing to participate or just like the idea?

Yes, and get rid of P&N while you are at it. That place is a total waste of bandwith and brain cells.

Sounds interesting but I don't think we could co-ordinate on single solutions. There's too broad a range of styles/platforms that we use. It'd be interesting to compare all the different solutions people come up with if we did it seperately though :)

Well, we could get some mathamaticions to design the algarithms, and get it written in a bunch of langauges, then sell it and distribute the profits :D

Yeah I think it would be cool to have "small" challenges, maybe see how people do things in various languages, and improve on each other's implementations, etc. Anything too big and you might as well go get involved in an existing large project.

Yeah, that was mostly the idea... I wasn't too clear in my post. It would be more like solving it individually, then posting your solution, then others would come back and post their own solutions or maybe offer suggestions/modifications to yours... that kind of thing.

Would definitely keep it small, not looking to program the next Linux release here or anything. :)

Bumpinsky.

It would be really great to have a forum with hardware-oriented programmers.

Anandtech might be the premium place to discuss low-level optimizations and understand how modern CPUs really perform. Not to mention all that other cchppinsky around them. It's drivign me nuts and I don't think there is an existing forum for it.

I am not a programmer, but I can see how trying to find anything useful in the current Software forum is worthless. I wish you guys luck.

Why have we not heard a single thing about this? I would rather have heard a "fvck you fuji it aint gonna happen" than mods simply ignoring this issue. Can we get an official response for this?
