OK, OK, you win!

I have no idea why these are in the same forum. There are obviously seperate issues.

Threads like "Why new Doom is better than old Doom" and "what's the best way to serialize to xml a bunch of objects?" just don't have the same audience (and maturity level).

It's been covered before but people want the games as a seperate forum. I want programming as a seperate forum. I think more people would ask questions and answer programming questions if there was a seperate forum.

Thanks to Beau we now have an online petition going... do the right thing people and sign it!

Update:
Anand has given me a response! He assures me that new forum categories are in the works. However, he does not have a time table yet. I guess we're back to the waiting game since this is the word from the boss himself.

I kinda agree.
Normally, I think getting more forums is a bad idea, but this one actually has quite a bit of merit.

As it stands now, half of the programming questions land in other forums, most notably, OT or HT.

Software, Programming and Games should be split completely IMO.

From a programmer - agreed. Code Geeks need their own forum. (Hint - name suggestion enclosed in plain sight.)
I worry though, will it become a land of HTML/web-design issues instead of code? Or will a "highly technical for software" forum, have too small an audience to flourish? I guess it remains to be seen, but I say, give it a shot.

With the threat of even more D3 threads, and the possibility of HL2 around the corner, I might actually agree with this.

Yeah, :Q, I know.

There are a LOT of programmers here, not sure how many would participate though. I know I would, I like being able to ask a quick question and get an answer from someone else who's had the same problem as me rather than spending a couple of hours figuring it out.

Yup. I usually turn to other forums for programming questions because AT lacks a programming forum.

That is too many different spinoffs. Simply separating programming is the best option.

I don't see why it's "too many different spinoffs", since they seem like fairly distinct topics (if you have a question about, say, video encoding software, that's not really the same as a question about Doom3). Getting 'Programming' its own forum would be a good start, though.

Exactly.

I assume that the reason that the admins are against the whole idea is that it creates a need for more mods. I don't see what the issue would be with getting a few Junior Mods to handle it. There are more than a few people that qualify and could be trusted, IMO.

Games gets combined with Video or becomes a subforum of Software (I know it's been mentioned multiple times, but it's only logical to me)
Programming becomes a subforum of Highly Technical or Software
Software stands all by its lonesome

My suggestion at least.
