lets not spam anand, he gave me a response

He assures me that new forum categories are in the works. However, he does not have a time table yet :(

I guess we're back to the waiting game since this is the word from the boss himself. :frown:

That wouldn't be so special-interest, but it would keep those with professional software questions (including programming) segregated from the game/entertainment software questions, which are always going to be swamped with new threads on the eve of every new major game release.

It would also provide a clear place for people to come here to AT to ask software-related questions, for things like MS Office, Photoshop, etc., in the same manner as others already do in the numerous hardware-related forums. I really do think that might be a good idea, and in the process make AT a more valuable resource.
I really like that idea. It has been suggested that programming on it's own might be a bit thin. But lot's of people have serious questions that don't quite involve programming but that the programming crowd is much more likely to be able to handle (just like linux software questions are better asked in os, even though they're not really about linux itself).

That suggestion is pretty similar to the one of simly removing gaming and leaving software and programming together. That wouldn't be perfect but it would remove 90% of the non-useful stuff out.

Never noticed this whole issue before. But yeah, I agree too. I've gone to other places for programming help because SPG just seems so light in coding content.

As someone else stated earlier - if you build it, they will come.

Bump.

Did somebody already mention that a Anandtech programming forum would be awesome?

Been 10 days bump...

This would be _very_ helpful.

Creating software and using it are very different things.
