As always, the fear and anger emanating from the atheists is palpable.

Russ: Fear and anger? I think athiests on average have less fear and anger then christian. Of course I have no real way to prove that, but its an obvservation.

Attack is a classic response to fear. Read the attacks from the atheists.

The attacks on Palco? I surely hope you're not defending him as a model for atheistic anger? He's quite the ball of lard.

I didn't say "we atheists" don't argue...no more than anyone else, Republicans and Right'ers included (*gasp*). Aside from that...that guy is still a pile of lard. ;)

konichiwa,

There is a difference between arguing and leveling personal attacks and insults. The atheists of this board invariably engage in the latter every time a Christian expresses his opinion.

All anger is fear based. It's clear that you people are terrified. How does it feel to realize that the words of a Christian have that level of control over your emotions?

<...Attack is a classic response to fear...>

Christers (a term used by my Islamic wife) always presume rationalism is the equivalent of fear. It takes a thief to catch a thief -- or, at least, believe they have caught one.

You're right. I'm terrified...terrified that the morals and values of the likes of KDOG and PALCO will overrun our society in a...what was it? What did he call it? Ahh yes, it will "make a return, like rolling Thunder it will sweep this Land again"

That is what I am terrified of.

I believe the situation could be summed up thusly. The crux of the matter is about respect, tolerance, and deference. Unfortunately, what many of you so loudly and vehemently demand from others you are adamantly unwilling to reciprocate.

If that wasn't a call to rumble, I don't know what is. Personally, I would never start a thread like this because it is against my personal tenets. I've got my own spiritual thing going on, and if you like me then a big part of that is because I live what I believe. Part of that includes trying very hard not to judge anyone (but I don't always succeed).

I'm not sure if this helps anyone, but I felt like adding my scent to the gaseous air in here. ;)

That said, I am out of here!

Now how in the world are you going to compare praying in public to swearing in public, which by the way is not done over a loudspeaker and in unison by everyone in the building as praying usually is. The two are not comparable.

If I believe that my @sshole is the almighty, may I kindly ask you all to ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY ANUS? If not, then what the hell makes you think I want to pray to your idea of a god.

I would think differently if everyone was asked if they wanted to take part in these prayers or at least if they mind being subjected to the praying, but they are automatically expected to huddle up with the team and pray. I think there should just be a moment of silence so that everyone can pray to their own god.

"I may not believe in what you say, but I will die for your right to do so."
-Voltaire

It's unfortunate that so many wish to silence the voice of people in conversation with God. :(

OK, I give, when do I convert? How in the world do you expect to get followers by acting like the radical Muslims, Jews and the rest? It is repulsive and the email claims that those that think like that are the "majority", like hell it is, you far right Creationist's, prayer in school idiots should be treated like the cults that you act like. You are no better than the moonies or rasnish, do us all a favor a keep this filth in your mailbox. Do I sound like a "whining, liberal, atheist"? Does calling people names make you right? Let me make this very clear, I believe in a god, I believe that everyone in this country has the right to pray or not to pray to whatever they please, in thier own homes, churches temples or other place of worship, seems to me it should have read "A thread by a whining religious elitist".

Was going to read through all 131 responses, then said "Fsck it"...if someone said this before, please excuse me:

NEF

For every incident that you name where a "whiny liberal atheist" sues because someone is violating the constitutional separation of church and state, I can name you an incident where a "slack-jawed religious nut" is suing because a book, or play, or work of art offends their "christian values."
Furthermore, you should change the title of the post to something like "Religious nut rants about non-secular aspects of the Constitution." Don't you understand that when you post like this, you solve nothing?

The next time you want to open a sack of manure and dump it on the forums, think again.

What is is with bloody cristians wanting to convert everyone & proselysing everywhere

I don't see Hindus, animalists or wiccas going out trying to convert people.

Maybe its about time western nations have that law like they have in Russia, where its against the law to go out & actively try & convert others to you faith. Yes that's right if you are (for example) a catholic preist, you have the right to convert/baptise or whatever anyone who walks in & asks to be converted, but its illegal for that Catholic preist to wander arround the streets encouraging people to join his church. They introduced that law after the breakup of the Soviet Union when all these crzy American evangelicals moved in splashing their money about, trying to convert everyone & in the process created problems galore, such as family breakups, etc.

Anyway Why do bloody christians have to prey alloud, can't they just keep their prayers to themselves. No ones asking them not to prey, all they are asking them to do is while at a state school football gamer, is that they please keep their prayers to themselves.

Anyway they must be pretty poor sportsmen, if they feel the need for gods help to win. Surelly that could be construed as cheating or at the very least 'poor form'. A trues sportsman would decline gods help & try & win on merit.

Surly KDog its the footballers who feel they need gods help to win who are the whiny ones.

BTW, what is the difference between christians finding such Anglo-Saxon 4 letter words as sh!t, cvnt, cock, & Fvck offensive & athiests finding christian prayers spoken out loud offensive?

Five, almost six centuries and little has changed.

Cortez kills the heathen Montezuma; Pizzaro does the same thing to a guy in Peru after he forces the guy to be baptized rather than be burned alive. The Crusades, Islamic Fundamentalists, ad nauseum.

Intolerance is a badge of honor for some people. Today, instead of threats of violence, we get that interminable smile of intolerance, certitude, and blissful rectitude. We have institutionalized intolerance. We have Dubya. We have a political party completely dedicated to intolerance. We have the right wing who think it is still ok to enslave the population at the minimum wage while we pay corporate heads tens of millions per year; destroy the environment; turn Christian principles of love and charity on their head and fail to care for the sick, the weak, the mentally ill; take what little gold the poor have and deliver it to the DaddyWarbucks Cortezes, Pizzaros, and Columbuses.

Frankly, I don't care if anyone prays in school, provided a prayer from each of the top 50 religious organizations is said seriatum. Perhaps tolerance would then magically descend upon the throng of unwashed Christian "heathens".
