Because an OSX computer is overpriced compared to it's Windows equivalent.

Spec for spec you can certainly build a better machine for cheaper.

However, I've found the Mac Pros, put up against a comparable "workstation" you'd buy from Dell (2x CPU, ECC memory, etc...for example) to be fairly similarly priced.

IMO, there isn't any AIO on the market that can compete for value with the iMac, especially when considering screen quality.

*shrug*

Personally, I'm totally neutral on the issue. I'd love a 27" iMac for that sexy fuckin' screen.

The trackpad on the macbooks is only good for surfing around the net clicking links, clicking buttons, beyond that its a pos. Highlighting text, dealing with spreadsheets, or trying to right click on a specific spot it is fucking annoying.

OSX, meh I don't see the appeal. It doesn't really look that good. Everything is that drab grey apart from the dock thing at the bottom which does a horrible job of dealing with multitasking. Fuck expose, if I want to switch programs its far easier to mouse down to the taskbar and click the program/window I want. I'm always having to hunt around for basic things to, which is annoying. Nor is it really all that intuitive besides surfing the net/whatever is in that dockbar. And I still don't get why you need to command+q out of a program even if you hit the x button.

This entire post is the classic "it's different from Windows, so therefore it's worse than Windows" mindset.

My wife has a macbook. Whenever I use it, I either love it or want to throw the thing out the window. There are some things that are extremely unintuitive about OSX. I still don't understand why a minimized window is invisible to command+tab, why some windows don't actually maximize when you hit the +, why the trash is overloaded with different functionality, etc.

Linux ftw. One day these threads will be "Why do people still use Windows when they can use Linux?"

This.

The IPS panels that Apple uses for their 27 and 30" are gorgeous, and accurately priced compared to Dell Ultrasharp.

Definitely competent builders can make much better systems for the price though. Dell, HP, etc, not so much.

So either like them, or hate them, your on the bandwagon.

Well, I dont hate them.
But I've had a mini, ibook, shuffle, and iphone4, and none of them really impressed me especially for the money.
If forced to use any of them I could certainly adapt, I'd just be unhappy in the process.

Keep posting that stupid pic as a valid argument, I don't know at which point you thought that was either accurate or amusing, or from having no experience in the subject and just acting like the people that posted the same stupid "macs vs pcs" pics and brand it as truth. FYI, at least the "macs vs pcs" pics illustrate some half truths.

Yea. I find them decent for what they are, but don't find they live up to the hype that Apple fanatics seem to spew.
But it makes interesting conversation piece when potential employers see I have experience with the 3 operating systems.

I don't necessarily hate OSX, I just find that it's superfluous beyond being competition. I gave it an shot and spent $2500 on a Power Book and used it for a couple years. The difference between a dumbed down and power user experience was too wide of a gap. In the end, the best part of the entire experience was breaking to laptop down into thousands of pieces and throwing it in the trash can. I also loathe the fact that I can not build my own machine.

Microsoft office 2014 is going to require 8 cores/16gb ram/SSD?

Besides hardcore gaming I'm sure an iMac could keep an averse user happy for 5 years. I mean I'm on a floor with 100+ computers running winXP with 1gb ram and shared video memory.

My parents have been using their iMac G5 for the last 5 years with no problem.

I enjoy using OS X. I don't have an irrational hatred for Apple products

I don't like OS X, iTunes, or any other Apple product, but I don't exactly hate them. The worst part is the Apple fans.
