wtf is everyone so scared of. I can understand if you live in a dangerous area but otherwise I don't get it. Anyway, I carry nothing.

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

There have been threats against my extended family more than once, business related. If my state had a concealed carry law, I would have a permit.

Oh, I see you must have missed that I implied that people who need it should carry it. Those who shouldn't really don't need to. Why not carry a guy or concealed weapon? They just seem to inflame a situation that could have ended peacefully

I don't live in a dangerous area, far from it.

Well it must suck going through your life being so scared that you have to carry a weapon everyday to feel safe.

It must suck going through life as stuipid as you.

MIKE

Thats strange. My grandma, who is 60some odd years old, got her license in less than a month. A few shots at the practice range and some paperwork and she had hers. SHes in MIchigan though.

yea, here in ohio you have to take classes, and they do a background check, and the whole process takes around 11 months. my dads boss is getting his, because he loves guns and the 11 months prevents ppl who have no reason, just want the license to get it.

MIKE

It does not take 11 months in Ohio, unless the place he wants to take classes at has a huge backlog. You take some classes, totalling 12 hours with two of that being range time, you fill out your paperwork, you turn it in, and they have 45 days to issue you your permit, unless they find something to DQ you.

Right now I dont have the $800 it would cost me to get myself set up with a pistol, classes, permit application fee, and a couple hundred rounds of quality ammo. So until the end of the summer I'll probably continue to carry around either my Benchmade 770S BC or my Microtech LCC D.A.

It must be nice thinking only crime can happne in bad parts of town.

Oh, crime happens everywhere all the time. Violent crime is a different story though. Especially violent crime that involves the need for weapons. If you bring fists to a fight, you probably are going to walk away. If you bring a knife or gun to a fight, who knows. I would rather risk getting beat up or getting my wallet stolen than risk getting killed. I would be very interested in some statics that show how situations without weapons involved and with weapons involved end up.

Nothing right now, but soon I'll be carrying a Glock 22 .40 with 46 rounds of Federal 165 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point ammo & a pair of handcuffs.

I might also take my 10% OC Spray, ASP Baton, and 2 D-cell Maglite as needed. :D

Read my first post closely. Concealed carry is illegal in my state, so I do not carry a handgun. I don't even carry a knife. Still with me?

If, hypothetically, a law was passed that enabled me to do so I would start. Not everyone plays by your rules, if someone is intent on causing you bodily harm then talking them down won't usually work. There have been situations in the past where this has been the case for my family and might be some day for me as well.

right violent crime that actually happens is rare. But why take the chance of getting murdered, raped or such?

In the city i live Muggings don't happen very often. But there has been a few murders and a bunch of rapes. My wife and i would rather have her attempt to fight etc and escape then get raped. Considering she works nights i think her carrying pepper spray, etc is a smart move even thought the chances of anything happening is really low.

Pity that you think protecting yourself is stupid or wrong. I just hope your family never know the trauma of being raped.

Don't mock me. There is a HUGE difference between just being in the suburbs and working the 9-5 than being a woman who works nights and has to walk through a dark parking lot every night. Pity you can't keep your story straight. You go from "safe neighborhood" to "working graveyard shifts and dark parking lots".

Also, pocket pepper spray is different than packing a .45 or a knife, especially if you are a woman. Most rapes don't end in murder and it would make sense for a woman to carry it.

hate to tell you but while i do live in the suburbs while it is safe during the day. AT night it is dark and not safe. NOT to mention if you read the back post i mentioned the closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away.

I have no worries about her walking around during the day. At night again it is a different story. IF you do NOT understand that its not my problem.

I have NOT heard of a city that does not have rapes. WE do not want to take the chance of her getting raped. no matter how "SAFE" you think the area is it still happens.

As stated this area is pretty safe (heck of a lot safer then the larger cities) but is safe enough to not worry about getting raped? HELL NO!

I have kept my story straight. I said she carries pepper spray. I carry a pocket knife (also mentioned it would be useless in a fight) but i also have a club in the car and trunk. Regardless where you live you should do your best to be safe.

I also stated i want a handgun for the house. again as i have stated our house is secluded. There is no neighbors near us.

IF pointing out that we want to be safe is mocking you then i bet you feel everyone mocks you. I'm glad you are OK with just being UN-armed and willing to take whatever someone does to you. While if anyone bothers me they just want my money (considering i carry maybe $5 at a time I'm not out much) But if someone bothers my wife odds are they want more then that. We are not willing to take that chance.

Get out and see the world. It is not as pretty as TV makes it out to be.

There hasn?t been too much in the last few years, but the mid 90?s were very interesting. There had been a dispute with a group
of people who were very determined to have things go their way. My family was not willing to cave to what was obviously extortion and
did not do so.

This resulted in a period of threats against family member?s lives and property. Multiple acts of
vandalism and arson were committed against the company. A pipe bomb was found unexploded
one of my relative?s yards. Most incidents don?t approach this level, but every once and a while something comes close.

I am of course being purposefully vague about what business my family is in; rest assured it
is a very normal and completely legal one.

wtf, read my post again. I said it made sense to carry something if you are walking around in a dark parking lot at night.

Nothing you said contradicts ANYTHING I have said in this entire thread! Since you simply do not comprehend and cannot make the connect from a to b let me help you out a bit!

1.you carry a pocket knife for random things but not for self defense (this does not contradict anything I said)

2. I agreed that a dark parking lot is a place to be armed with something especially if you are a woman (are you beginning to learn?)

3. having a gun in your home for protection while you sleep also does not contradict anything I said (I never even MENTIONED! protection of your home with a firearm or other weapons)

While you may apparently have "seen" the world (not much of it if you live in a town where people live 1/2 mile apart) you might want to take a break from seeing the world and go get some education so you don't get so darn confused!

wtf that is pretty wild. Of course if someone was thretening my family I would carry around a gun all the time (probably regardless if legal or not)
