Fish is good in general, but most seafood other than fish is very high in cholesterol and should be avoided.

You do realize that there is good and bad cholesterol?

I'm still not sure that dietary cholesterol affects cholesterol levels.

Really, your body will make all the cholesterol that it does or doesn't need. So technically you are correct. What you really need to look out for is total (and type) of fat that you are consuming, since that is what really is the issue.

Different types of fats have different affects on your body.

chart

You have to understand what you are eating and how it affects your body instead of simply looking at a label and going OMG!!! LOOK AT THE FAT! Fat from fish, avocados, olive oil and nuts is GOOD for you. These help lower "bad" cholesterol, and help raise "good" cholesterol levels.

Fat from red & white meat, snack foods, and vegetable oils is typically bad for you. These fats typically work the opposite - they raise bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol.

It's just comes with the territory that fatty foods also typically come with higher levels of cholesterol. You should be looking at the type of fat more than the cholesterol levels.

Yeah, because cleaning up after yourself after cooking is entirely out of the question.

Yeah, good luck. Asian moms can be pretty difficult when it comes to telling them what they think is right is actually wrong... GoodGuy, good luck man. If it works, let me know how you did it!

My results from 2 weeks ago:

tri - 95
hdl - 35
ldl - 163

I'm 35 and way overweight. Doc says my LDL level is likely hereditary. My dad was high on his at 35 as well.

I already started eating 5 minute oatmeal 3 or 4 days a week. More salad, less red meat, although I was only having beef about 2-3 times per month.

Why don't you actually talk to your mom and show her the doctor's note? Tell her she'd be killing you the way she's doing it atm.

How about you just freaking eat less food? I'm pretty sure your mom isn't picking up your fork and shoving the food down your throat. Eat less and exercise. Stop blaming others for things that are within your control.

5 minute oatmeal? Why not something that's not nothing?

Great advice. I would add eat lots of green, leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, mustard greens, collards, lettuce, etc. The darker green, the better.

This book helped me turn my health around:

Eat to Live

Did your doctor really suggest the Atkins diet? yikes...
