To the OP, it is a little weird that he's dating someone so young. Have a talk with your friend. Don't bash him, but make sure he understands what kind of trouble he could be in if the relationship mainly consists of intercourse. His life could be ruined if he gets charged for something like this...possible jail time and his name on known sex offender lists. If he's just banging her...do everything in your power to get him the hell out. Especially if your friends name is Humbert Humbert.

Yeah, I would not call the cops on one of my really good friends. We have been through thick and think through grade school, high school, college, and beyond. I am just worried about the situation. I think he is just taking what he can get right now. I kind of knew before I left for training in texas (been up here 9 weeks) that he would fall in love with the next person he met, cause he was always saying how lonely he was :(

I believe that in the cultures where women get hitched at age 12 it's alright for them. Because in their country and culture, they mature differently due to the environment they're in. However in a lot of the other countries where women get married later, because they've grown up in a different environment they usually are more immature and not ready for marriage.

I think it's all relative. To each person their own, however you should perhaps evaluate the situation and perhaps hang out or speak with the 16 year old girl yourself before smacking your friend upside the head for dating her. Perhaps she is more mature than most girls her age ... and perhaps your friend really is ... too immature for his age. In most cases the girls not ready for that sort of relationship or what not ... but each case is different like I said ... so you need to see it for yourself than basing it on what a bunch of people on a forum say.

You make some good points, and I agree about the "maturity" and "ready" points. However, you must live within the legal constraints of the society/nation you're in. In most states in the US, 16 is indeed jailbait. More and more these days, parents and nosy courts are interfering in matters of the heart...or crotch, depending on your POV.

Years ago (many) I was 15 and my GF was 15. We made mother nature proud...thousands of times. :D These days, my 15 year old butt would be locked up. Do I think that's BS? My opinion doesn't really matter if I'm in jail, now does it?

Uh...not true. Seems there are at least 20, possibly as many as 27 states where 16 is the age of consent.

Trust me when I say a 16 year old girl doesn't know wtf she is doing.

Tell your friend to grow up. High School is over. To even out what your friend is doing, a 16 year old boy would have to date a 25 year old woman.


Only on the internet would someone bring this up. If he is unsure, tell him to ask the Sherieff.

If it was my daughter, I'd ask her if she was happy, if she said "yes" I'd keep try not to interfere. (Well, I probably would try to suss out the guy, find out his motivations to be going out with someone quite a bit younger). I'd probably remind her on the importance of safe sex. Let her know I am always happy to talk about stuff. Etc.
