SOME 16 year olds might be fine, and some might not be. I knew 16 year old girls who would be the ones taking advantage in this relationship, and I know 25 year old girls now who really have trouble.

The thing is, at that age, it's more likely than not that you don't know what the hell you are doing. Which is fine if the only people you are boffing are your age, but when it's people 9 years old (especially THOSE 9 years), the teenger could be taken advantage of. Does that mean it has to be that way? I suppose not, but that's the problem with broad rules like this. Maybe that particular couple is fine, but I doubt that would be the case most of the time.

I believe that in the cultures where women get hitched at age 12 it's alright for them. Because in their country and culture, they mature differently due to the environment they're in. However in a lot of the other countries where women get married later, because they've grown up in a different environment they usually are more immature and not ready for marriage.

I think it's all relative. To each person their own, however you should perhaps evaluate the situation and perhaps hang out or speak with the 16 year old girl yourself before smacking your friend upside the head for dating her. Perhaps she is more mature than most girls her age ... and perhaps your friend really is ... too immature for his age. In most cases the girls not ready for that sort of relationship or what not ... but each case is different like I said ... so you need to see it for yourself than basing it on what a bunch of people on a forum say.

You make some good points, and I agree about the "maturity" and "ready" points. However, you must live within the legal constraints of the society/nation you're in. In most states in the US, 16 is indeed jailbait. More and more these days, parents and nosy courts are interfering in matters of the heart...or crotch, depending on your POV.

Years ago (many) I was 15 and my GF was 15. We made mother nature proud...thousands of times. These days, my 15 year old butt would be locked up. Do I think that's BS? My opinion doesn't really matter if I'm in jail, now does it?

Not according to the law. I'm sensing that you may be in a similar situation? While at 16 you are physically capable of sexual intercourse, a LOT of girls still aren't ready. That's why dating in high school was always so much drama (or maybe you didn't date in high school?) a 25 year old has had a LOT more time to figure things out than a 16 year old, and likely wants different things.
