Yeah... we had a few years in a row where the jet stream pushed a lot further north than usual and we had some pretty mild winters. Not any more. This January is supposed to be the coldest in 35 years. If we average -44 for the rest of the month we'll be there.

Go team! :D

You guys trying to compete with RUssia this year?

We OWN Russia. They're whining about -25. :D

Hahaaaahahahahahahahaa... :p I saw that it snowed on Haleakala AND Mauna Kea the other day. Are you guys surviving there?

Barely making it...schools are closed....government buildings shut down...It'll be hard, but I think we'll survive.

Not like those pansies in Fairbanks...

There is no amount of money you could pay me to live there.

Ahhh... but the summers rock. 80-90 with 20 hours of sun every day. Best summers anywhere.

To each their own. But I'll take 79-90 summers and rarely below 50 winters any day. 60 degrees here today.

Air at -45 holds almost no water... it's real easy for the RH to be 90% but be dry as hell.

Wow, that's awesome. I once ran 8 miles in a -40 degree windchill; it was only -20 regularly. That was intense. I cannot imagine a true -45 degree temperature. Love to experience it.... Wonder if I could run in it.

Tonight
Mostly clear. Areas of dense ice fog with near-zero visibilities valleys and lower hill slopes. Lows 40 to 55 below...coldest in valleys. Light winds.
Saturday
Mostly clear. Areas of dense ice fog with near-zero visibilities valleys and lower hill slopes. Highs 30 to 45 below...coldest in valleys. Light winds.

Hmm,I thought it was chilly this AM;
but, 8f for a low temp isn't so bad,
compared to your weather. Ugh:beer:

Zip 12208 here.

We get freezing fog even here in Oregon from time to time, it's nothing special.

Nooooo... Two problems.

1. If you run you sweat. If you start sweating at these temps you're screwed. You'll get forstbite in interesting places and hypothermia will set in the second you stop. Wet + Cold = Bad
2. Unless you have something to pre-heat the air before you breathe it in, you could frost-bite your lungs. Normal breathing isn't too bad because a normal resting respiratory cycle lets your body warm the air before it can cause damage. Breathing heavy pumps too much super cooled air into your lungs. Your body can't keep up and your aviolis (sp?) freeze.

Even at -20 you can have problems running. Most of the X-country skiers up here go indoors at about -20. Most outdoor sporting events are cancelled at -20 as well.

It's a challenge!!!!! :D

I really don't think there are any documented cases of people's lungs freezing, but I would be willing to bet that temperatures that cold would result in frostbite of the sinuses and trachea. A quick li'l 2-mile jog might be possible before too much damage is caused though :)

Now that's what winter should look like!

We've hardly had any snow here. :( I'd love to take some of the white stuff off your hands for a while, but not the -50 temps. :Q

Greetings from a warm Valdez, Alaska.

I've exeprienced -40 degrees a few times in my life (during extremely cold winters, at my grandparents house in Door county Wisconsin) ....
Anything that cold is not fun. It's friggin impossible to get the snomobiles started!!!!

A good friend flies out in the delta area, and they suspend operations with the piston planes at -35F. It becomes impossible to keep the engines warm enough.
I've flown across much of the state, and flew the inside passage up from Washington. That was in the summer, I'd never go there in the winter!:p

Heh... It's so cold the lights in the parking lot can't turn on. The bank sign in the pics I took is dark because the fluorescent tubes won't light up. I'm outta here... headed home.
