My brother used to live in Timmins, Ontario. He said it got so cold up there (-45 or so) that ice crystals would form in the air.

Is this true, and if so, is that basically what "ice fog" is?

Weather that cold is simply amazing! wow!

Yup, that's ice fog. Right now visibility is less than 1/4 mile. I can barely see across the street in front of the store. It's a lot better than yesterday though.

my mom is from fairbanks. all she said is that it was REALLY COLD. my grandma said that people would get killed by getting impaled by falling ice-icles (sp?). this was back in the 1920s though. also, i think my great grandfather was a judge there. they all lived in a little hut thingy. it was pretty amazing.

Whoozyerdaddy, I pity you! I flew in from Nome this morning and it was -30 out there; it's -5 now in Anchorage. It's been hovering around 0 all week... it was warm enough that I actually installed my new truck's supercharger this week in my driveway.

Yep, we Alaskans do have a warped temperature scale!

What kind of business is it?

Home theater installation & design. Good biz to be in with the winters up here. ;)

um yea, in that case... go home, don't think anyone will want to have anything installed on a day like this.

Gas doesn't gel until about -70. Anti-freeze is good to about -100. Motor oil turns into caramel about -40 though. :Q
