Seriously I'm going to head to 7-11 at lunch and get a giant pickle and marvel for a bit before I eat it.

i always marvel at them a bit beforehand too.

I guess if you think of the pickle as a car, and then if you imagine a parking space that you think gosh theres no way im gonna be able to fit in there, but then you fold in the side view mirrors and sure enough, well look at that.

It sounds kind of like I'd rather be the parking space.

Is actually a cucumber that's been in water and salt (brine) for a long time. I always just throught there was a pickle bush somewhere!

Shens?

Please?

I'm not kidding at all. I've seriously never known that. I'm not an idiot, this just little tidbit of info slipped through the cracks. Cucumbers are always so much larger then pickles so I guess I just never put 2 and 2 together.

you can "pickle" anything

smaller cuces are used because they taste better

Well and the jar would be freekin huge if you used regular ones.

Not all of the example are. Someone mentioned a raisin is a dried grape. A prune is also a dried plum. The words are nothing alike, it's just common knowledge everyone picks up as they get older. Or not I guess. ;)

Touche. Kind of pathetic that the biggest thread I've ever started is about me not knowing that a pickle a cucumber. Actually... that's kind of cool!

It's okay, everyone's had one of those 'duh' moments.

Confession: When I was first learning my ABC's we were singing 'the ABC song' in school. Shortly after learning that song I asked the teacher what an 'Elemenopee' was. I found out it was 'L, M, N, O, P'. In my defense, I was young and didn't know how to read/write yet but to this day I remember that 'I'm an idiot' feeling. :p

here is an example, burpee is a big seed company, this search for cucumber shows all the varieties of cucumber they sell

many are labeled "slicing", those are for salads, etc, then some are labeled "pickling" , those are best for pickles
then some say "dual use" , so you can do either

I can't believe people are actually admitting to these "things".

Yeah man, i'm really embarrassed that hundreds of people I don't know and will never meet now knew that I never know what vegetable a pickle was. How will I show myself in public? How will I leave the house?! :)

For shame! Shun him. Shuunn!
