Is actually a cucumber that's been in water and salt (brine) for a long time. I always just throught there was a pickle bush somewhere!

yarly. someone just said something about kosher pickles and so I googled about what makes a pickle kosher and read that it's just a freaking cucumber!

I'm not kidding at all. I've seriously never known that. I'm not an idiot, this just little tidbit of info slipped through the cracks. Cucumbers are always so much larger then pickles so I guess I just never put 2 and 2 together.

the subspecies of cucumber they use to make pickles are smaller than the type of cucumbers they use for salads and other things

ie they are special cucumbers that are generally smaller that are used for most pickles

you can "pickle" anything

smaller cuces are used because they taste better

I knew that. Just because there are so many versions of dried things like dried fruit, prunes, raisins and whatnot. And the only things that I know get pickled are like pigs feet and eggs and stuff. I think its because they aren't called pickled cucumbers.. just pickles.
