Hmmm. Seems I'm gonna be *that guy* with this one. One of the main criticisms of the first 2 games is that they are so damn hard when you first start. Generally if you stick with them, you get better weapons and they even out. Right now, I've got my crappy AK-47 and I'm at the waste treatment spot and these bastards are hitting me from like 200 yards. I can't get anywhere near them....Atmosphere is nice though. Just like the prior two. Seems much more polished IMO as well. Not MW2 polished, but good. Anyone else's video card fan fire up on this one? Man my GTX 260 gets cranked almost from the load out. Playing everything on High on 1980x1080.

Ugh.. wait until you find some stashes before you do the Waste Treatment Plant. I went in with an AK74 + scope and got my ass kicked many many times. Hope you don't have the AK47/SU compact version; that thing is turd.

Yes, I have the regular version you start with - unscoped to boot. It is terrible. I've only been playing for like an hour, but haven't found a stash yet either.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the quality of this game is garbage. I've only played for about 5 minutes but I'm already really struggling with it.

What's up with just the game suddenly starting with me in the middle of the field? I have no idea what my objectives are or wtf to do.

The loading times are long and give the impression that the game crashed. You just have to wait it through.

There is absolutely no multithreading going on. I have an i7 920 and 4870 and the game runs like crap and looks terrible. My first core is pegged at 100% and all the other cores are are 0%.

Mine runs fine with everything maxed out at 1680x1050 with an i5 750 and a 4890. Did you skip the whole beginning sequence? IIRC that tells you what your objectives are - hit P to bring up your info.

I got it to run fine even on my old AMD 3800+ x2 cpu ,tweak the video option settings,as to being stuck in middle of nowhere well there is ship wreck not too far(skadovsk) which is a safe house and you can pick up missions etc...remember your PDA(P key) is a very helpful tool.

I just chatted to the nearby stalkers and ended up going to that direction after awhile.

That's what I did also..and that's as far as I got before I went back to Borderlands. I'm addicted. :p

Any good tweak/ease of use mods for this? I'm more curious which ones will be compatible with each other since mixing up random mods is usually asking for crashes.

I turned down some settings and got it to run better.

I guess my problem was I couldn't talk to the guys because they said "put that weapon down" but I couldn't figure out a way to holster my weapon, so I just went out totally clueless. Now I realize I hit the equip weapon key to actually holster it, then they talked to me and gave me information.

So far I'm just using a weight mod (this one: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Carry_Max_75KG_Mod;109203).

But I upped the values to allow for 105KG. There's another value that prevents you from running after a certain weight. I made that 115KG. Also, you have to change the name of the "Config" folder in this mod to "Configs" for it to work properly.

I'm using a weight mod also. 50 KG is just way too low for all the stuff you can get.

I wish you could bind guns in your backpack to a key. I like to keep a pistol, rifle, and shotgun. If I could hit a key to pull out the shotgun without having to equip it first, that would be awesome.

hmm...i just wonder, could I put that in one of my quick slots that are used for items like bandages or med kits? I'm guessing not, but I haven't tried it.

This has to be the best Stalker game yet...loving it and really getting into it, unlike the other ones. Runs fine on my machine too...really good, like maxed out settings good at 1800x1440...no AA, but at this resolution who needs it?

One thing I find odd is how the knife is the strongest weapon in the game...what takes like 6 rifle rounds to bring a dog down is done with one swipe of my knife...wtf?

Also, I have the Storm assault rifle and the bullets drop WAY too quickly...this rifle seems to have to same bullet velocity as a BB gun...its kinda dumb and stupid...I dont know of any gun where the bullet falls as fast as this one, quite honestly, I dont think any exists!

Using an i5 750 with a 5770 and it's smooth at 1920x1200 maxed. I played at 1680x1050 for the first 2 days, but after I tested it out at 1920, I couldn't see a difference in performance.

Oh ya, and this is the best Stalker yet. I'm still doing stuff in the first 2 maps after 15+ hours. "Random" events are a lot better done, no more bullshit "Outpost is being attacked, go help" quests. It's just much more cohesive and well thought out than the first 2, despite being smaller. I got my exoskeleton and gravi, so no more weight complaints. Think I currently have 200k in cash. have all of my weapons upgraded to the second tier, and am about to leave for Pripyat.

Looks like there's a memory leak or something though. Game and input response felt sluggish at the 6 hour point (what, it's a holiday).

It's been pretty easy on Normal so far, except for the new mutants. I found two mutated-dwarves wandering around north of Yankov (sp?) yesterday. There's going to be a huge collection of bodies there over the next few days. Those things take over 30 point-blank buckshots to the face.

I found once my armor was upgraded 10kg [along with -3 Radiation and +12kg artifacts] - carrying around what you need [pistol, rifle, shotgun, ammo, etc] - "running" became tolerable. I'd have to agree this is the best in the series so far [the cut scenes are a little annoying - but that's about it]

Feels a lot more sandboxy than the first two games. I feel lost throughout the game with no real direction. If that's what they intended then bravo.
