Just resets to 0,so if you die again after patch you will get exp/TP debt.

Meh, kinda useless. But hopefully they'll come up with a solution by the 12th for Transmuting, annoyed they didn't plan this out before Open Beta. lol

Not free for the guy who spent $100 in my guild.

Wouldn't you say that fixing Runes (the name of the game) would be top priority?

I sent an email to my buddy lending some insight into why I'm slightly disheartened:
Any way you want to slice it, the limiting factor to getting uber in this game will be tokens or real $$$$ (to buy more transmutes). So considering that, we may as well just create a shtload of alts to get tokens to get transmutes to get more manastones (tradeable to our alts) to upgrade the tier of our gear (that we'll get by raiding). Every day that goes by is a day that you could have had more tokens with your alts.

I think they will have to change this because who the hell wants the point of a game to be token gathering or spending real life $$$ to upgrade your gear? We should have a way to get diamonds and/or tokens through gold, but what item is worth paying real $$$ (in the form of diamonds) for? My only guess would be semi-uber items from high end instances (like for armor/weps and/or mats for uber recipes). That way people who want to spend a shtload of real $$$ will get uber, as well people who spend a shtload of their *time* managing moronic raids and killing endgame bosses. That's how I think everything will happen.

Oh my god... I finally did it!

I played RoM for a bit last night, and was bored (in general - didn't want to switch characters or whatnot)... so I turned it off! Holy crap, I turned off an MMO! It was great! I had no guilt in doing so, and my wallet wasn't trying to beat me over the head when I did saying "You're not getting your money's worth!!!" :D

This game rocks. I tried it out yesterday and I could not get away from the pc. Unlike other free mmorpg's, this one has a nice polished feel to it. Looks very similar to WoW so far. I am sure it gets a lot more fun as you gain more levels. Too bad new semester started and I have some hard classes.

Mem, I'm leveling a new rogue right now... what abilities would you suggest? And should I use daggers instead of swords for the bleed effect of Shadowface/Lacerate? I'm level 9 right now.

Well daggers you get master skill so can put TP in that, also you get offhand damage bonus skill later,so yes daggers is best to use.

Don't worry too much if you make a mistake skill wise because at 30 you get a reset SKILL stone,I'm saving mine until 50.

K thanks. So go mainhand daggers and offhand right? and level S.face and Lacerate? Anything else?

Yeah I used the reset skill rune on my main. Doesn't reset your secondary though which kinda sucks.

Rogues are completely based on daggers... All their bleeding effects depend on it. And you can buy another reset stone for ~6000 bierdine tokens (or phirius or whatever).

You can use weapons in both hands at 16.

Yep you can but personally its a waste of bierdine tokens, transmuting is what I use those for ie stats on gear etc...

So much for being clean and sober from mmos haha!

But, Runes of Magic is free so that feeling of guilt for trying another mmo is not there.

Anyhow, this is nothing we have not seen before. however 3 things that interest me:

1. Free! however you can pay cash for good items. so if you play 100% free, might be a bit gimped end game....(?).

2. Dual class system. 8 classes x 8 so 64 possibilities. pretty cool.

3. pvp looting. penalty for death you can be looted. to what extent depends on your rep. unsure of details, I am sure this needs tweaking.

Merged with existing thread-PC Gaming Mod-DAPUNISHER

You only listed 2. Is there a third?

My guess would be no 'might be' involved in the gimpiness.

2. Dual class system. 8 classes x 8 so 64 possibilities. pretty

Given the difficulty larger companies have balancing a far smaller number of classes, I'm apprehensive about this. My knee-jerk reaction is that there will be a small handful of 'best' combos and anyone who isn't one of those will be gimped.

For example, Asheron's Call (great game, in it's day) was all skill-based. Everyone had all the skills and could assign experience from a single pool to any of those skills they wanted.

Just because you COULD have war magic and bow skills that were sky high didn't make it a good idea.

sorry for sloppy post, had to edit.

doing it from my phone :)

but...yeah AC comes to mind and naturally the will be powerful dual class combos. I would wager out of 64 possible only 20ish used.

rogue/scout for example is a obvious choice because the stats and gear fall in line.

I remember that happening in Titan Quest. There were a handful of ridiculously powerful farming classes with crazy DPS, like the Conqueror (Warfare + Defense), but there were plenty of craptastic classes that no one played unless 1) they were a noob, or 2) they were veterans looking for a challenge or to try something different.

Next patch is due on the 12th Feb.

I'm still playing the game got my knight/Priest at 38/39 and started blacksmithing skill (level 17 at the moment).

I still think the game needs more time in beta ,the 19th March date is too early for live release.

One warning if you see the Spider king World boss stay well away if a guild or group decide to attack it ,it has a huge AoE attack that kills most players as I found out as I was watching from a distance(location is Sea of Snow ,Harf Trading area) its yellow mob so safe to walk up too unless its attacked.

Patch notes - Version 2.0.0.1811

Arcane Transmutor / Rune System
The overwhelming number of runes that are available in game through dismantling was higher than initially expected. Because this was seriously impacting on the initially intended balance, we have made the following changes:

1. The effects of the runes have changed.
* All negative attributes have been changed to positive attributes.
* High-tier versions of the runes have been reduced in effectiveness.
2. The Potential-rune was more effective than intended and had to be adjusted.

General
New

1. Malatina's Survival Game
A new NPC has been spotted in Varanas: Malatina. She's a clown and she has a game for you to play. But be aware: If you are below level 15, it might get too tough.
* For 30 Phirius Tokens (a.k.a. "Bierdine tokens") Malatina opens a special instanced dungeon just for you.
* In this dungeon you will find a playing field with 36 tiles. Under 12 of those tiles you might find hidden treasure, under the rest of the tiles lurks a monster. Don't worry too much about them, because they are adjusted to your level.
* Around the field there is a matrix of pillars that can cause considerable damage, when the player enters the field wanting to search the treasure.
* You have 10 minutes to disarm the pillars and dig for treasure.
* At the corners there are teleporters to assist the players - especially those without the ability to tank.
* If you manage to clear at least 30 tiles, you will gain a special title.
* Should you manage to do much better, you have the chance to gain 2 more titles that have their very special perks...
* You can only participate once a day in this event - you can not use Daily-Quest Resets.
2. New elite monsters have been introduced. These new Elite monsters pose new challenges and come with exciting new rewards. You can find these mobs in:
* Sascillia Steps
* Dragonfang Ridge

Changes

1. New aggro alert - alerts the player before the monster aggros.
2. Talent Points: will now show decimals.
3. Removed Bloody Gallery opening time restrictions.
4. Added auction house success or failed message.
5. Servers now are organized by language and sorted by (number of players / player load).
6. Removed the empty gift bags that cluttered the inventory of Lv. 35+ characters. The gift bags will return again with one of the following patches. We will then give all players of lv. 35-50 the opportunity to re-claim their gift-bags. These bags then contain some very valuable goodies.
7. Lv. 40+ jewels are again available through normal gameplay.

Bug Fixes

1. Turned off user tracking device - it is no longer possible to track the position of other players across the server.
2. Character self-description: Fixed a bug caused by using different languages.
3. Fixed an error dying the mount.
4. Several issues with the Mystic Altar are fixed.
5. Fixed a few text display errors.

Item Shop

1. It is now possible to buy more than one item at a time.
2. The link to the websites are now pointing to the right page after changing the clients language.
3. Fixed UI issues in the Item Shop:
* "Hot Item" now show the correct amount.
* Page numbers are now displayed correctly.

Localisation

1. More text has been translated (process still ongoing)
2. Chat-output is now easier readable - e.g. added spaces after colons)
3. Some of the existing text has been revised.

I'll probably look into this game tonight.

But, i find it hard to play a game where other players can just spend real world cash to buy ingame items.

Totally ruins it for me. I hate games and companies that do this.

You can still remain competitive up to end game. But even endgame, you CAN compete with cash shop but it will just take a LOT more time (through tokens vs diamonds that you buy in cash shop).

Basically endgame will come down to transmuting your gear using the Arcane Transmuter in order to upgrade up to Tier 10 for each piece of equipment. It will take lots of gold (which you can also get with diamonds through AH when they enable that again) to buy the hundreds/thousands of green T4 items and manastones in conjunction with transmutes. Keep in mind noone has T10 gear yet (you'd have to spend roughly $96 per piece of gear from my calculations) but I've seen T8 (more realistic) that people have made. So yeah, cash will separate you in the end game to SOME extent. But it's realistic that people will have T6 - T8 gear with minimal cash spent. T10 is only 10% more powerful (only to BASE stats and not runes) so it's not THAT big a difference. It has to be this way because of PVP.

This patch was a major letdown for a month's worth of work. The good news is that Blue said the major stuff they're creating isn't ready yet, and they didn't want to release experimental code (seems they learned their lesson). So the next month should be exciting, I'm hoping for some battlegrounds!
