Dear Runes of Magic Community,
After reading through the forums for the last couple of days, collecting your feedback and a a couple long internal discussions, it's time to give you an update of the current state of the game.
The game is in Open Beta for almost about 50 days now and we all know that the last couple of weeks went not quite as smoothly as we all wished for - in terms of stability, content and general polishing.
We got a lot of feedback on different topics, but here are the current hot-topics we would like to comment on today:
* Delay of Patch / Testserver
* Diamond-trade in the Auction House
* Mobs / Drops / NPC - PC balancing
* Item Shop balancing
* Spammers, Bots & Naming Policy
Delay of Patch / Testserver
Earlier we announced that we won't publish any content update until the 12th of February because this week the people at Runewaker celebrated the Chinese New Year and that from next week on we first put new patches on our semi-internal testserver before we deploy them to the live servers.
We know that under the current circumstances this is not necessarily the most popular decision - we are aware that a number of our users experience regular client crashes and that for some the game's performance is sub-par. We are aware that these - and many more - issues should be addressed as quickly as possible.
But with all this said, we have good reason for this delay:
1) In China and the surrounding countries the New Year holidays are probably the most important holidays and the development team really deserves this break. They have been working long hours - our main contact at Runewaker was on call 24/7 and was online for many hours each day.
2) Up until now we relied on Runewaker's QA but after all the feedback we got from our community we have decided to set up our own semi-internal testserver so we can ensure that new updates don't introduce new bugs. It is obvious that we can't test all scenarios ourselves and will therefore invite selected players and guilds that - in cooperation with our internal testers - will then have the opportunity to check-out new patches on the testserver at least a week before we deploy them to the live servers. This then gives Runewaker and us enough time to work on hotfixes so that we can improve stability and quality.
Diamond-trade in the Auction House
A few weeks ago we had to disable Diamond-trading through the auction house because we were victims of credit card fraud. Some third parties used stolen credit cards to buy Diamonds through our system to sell them at cheaper prices for real money. All these transactions were cancelled by the credit card holders after discovering the incident.
As you can imagine, this was a quite heavy hit - we need the revenue from the Diamond sales to pay for our running costs of service and of course the further development of the game.
However: We do want the feature back in game as soon as possible. This is why we are talking to external payment service providers to improve fraud protection and improve our level of service.
As soon as this is solved, we will reactivate ingame Diamond trading again.
Mobs / Drops / NPC - PC balancing
At some point we have introduced very challenging monsters to the game that are extremely strong - these "one-hitters" are currently under investigation in terms of behaviour, strength and loot drops.
Loot itself is also something we are looking into - we are pulling data and analyse the loot tables of each of the bosses and elite mobs. The loot tables are not yet final and we are tweaking them to ensure that you get appropriate rewards for each challenge.
Item Shop - Balancing
There are complaints on the forums about the items we are offering in the Item Shop. There were complaints that many items could only be obtained through the shop. We have therefore opened the "Phirius-Token" (formerly knows as "Bierdine Tokens") shop. Momentarily we made only a limited set of items available through this shop, but we have already plans to change that.
Additionally certain items that are not yet available through general gameplay will be added to boss-mob loot tables.
Spammers, Bots & Naming Policy
Runes of Magic has rules against players spamming, using software to run the game automatically (botting) and giving their characters questionable names.
We have stated many times that we want to keep the game fair and fun for everyone - so we ask you to report any sightings of botters, spammers and characters violating the naming policy right away.
Our customer support team will then investigate the matter and suspend the offending accounts when appropriate.
Bug reports & Suggestions
Your opinion counts! Although we can't reply to each and every of your bug reports and suggestions in detail, we do read them.
All reported bugs are entered into our internal bug-tracking software and are prioritised. Every week we forward this list to Runewaker so they can then schedule in resources to work on fixes. Please note that not all bugs can be fixed at once, because they are caused by interactions between several of the game's systems. Fixing these requires some time.
Your suggestions are also still very welcome! We take all your input into consideration and use it to further improve the game, so please keep sending us your feedback!
Hotfix coming first week of February
We have already contacted Runewaker and asked them to work on a hotfix to patch the most current bugs over the weekend and the beginning of next week. This hotfix can be expected to arrive sometime in the course of next week.
Additionally we will then erase all XP and TP debt from all characters as a first gesture of goodwill.
When we can safely assume that the situation has been resolved every player will receive a little token of gratitude for your patience...
I hope this helps you to better understand the situation and that we are really taking your concern and criticism on board. Not everything may be perfect, but we are learning our lessons.
Finally, we would like to thank you for your continuing support and hope that you will keep enjoying Runes of Magic!
