It's a fun little game but at this time there really is no end game since most of the gear has no stats on it and the only way to get decent gear is through transmuting gear with mana stones later on.

I just wish they fixed the exploits where people are making multiple alts and transferring the bound items such as the daily tokens and the gift bags by activating pk status.

Not to mention there is a bug that everyone abuses where you can stack the bound items from the gift bags with unbound ones and make them unbound and people do that over and over to sell them on the auction house for a decent price since they are all supposed to be bound but they are still listed many times in the auction house.

It's not that bad on a pve server but it looks like people doing that and the cash shop has made the pvp server near unplayable since level 50's are able to loot people no matter the level starting at level 15 and with the cash shop items they are able to get about twice the hp and damage and make pvping them without the items near useless.

Thankfully after trying out the pvp server for awhile and noticing the bugs and future cash shop items that would had become available when from the posts on the EU server talked about them I had switched over to a pve server and leveled there for awhile until quitting the game.

Still it's a fun game to play for a bit.

You have to remember its still beta so bugs/problems are to be expected, personally I play on a very good European PvE server(Siochain) my guild has players from USA,Sweden,Denmark,Latvia,UK,Israel etc so its very international....PvP server did not really interest me because after playing Warhammer Online and killing players after players I thought whats the point in the end...In a PvE game or server I can help out any group as tank or healer and I get a lot more satisfaction then I ever did in PvP,I enjoy the instances a lot too.

They are adding more instances and still balancing the classes not ot meantion the two new clases down the road, population on my server is very good and I think there's still a lot more milage left in this game.
I'm hoping they add a lot more 30+ quests down the road.

My biggest issue is they have stated that there is no server wipe once it goes live and I am worried about the people that have used those exploits and had the yellow gear items before the recent nerf to them and they were able to keep them and how much more powerful these people will be versus others although this really only has more damage on the pvp server.

This is why I prefer they wipe servers when the game goes live to fix the issues people have found and abused but since they have opened a cash shop while still in beta and many issues has happened because of it already that I don't see them doing it for obvious reasons.

I guess many are getting overcharged for changing their appearance and instead of helping them they simply lock the posts.

Another reason never to pay for a beta but even with these issues it is probably one of the best free to play games I have seen in awhile and I think the last one I had this much fun was with that worms style game Gunbound. :D

To be fair they did wipe characters from Closed beta to Open beta, however they stated that Open beta characters would be fine for the live release down the road,PvE wise I have not really seen any serious exploits, main things I want to see fixed are those stupid quests in Chinese rewritten to English, more 30+ quests and content, broken skills on some clases fixed etc....stability has been very good.

I agree its probably the best free game I have also played over the years.

So, when will the "Kill 10 of x" or "Get 10 of x" missions end? I'm level 10, and it doesn't seem like it's really going anywhere interesting.

I also found the population in the large city, Varanas, to be almost 0. Weird.

Most players now are 30+ so are in areas like Half trading,Silverfall etc however the European server I go on Varanas city always has population(Siochain).

Quests are the usual, some kill so many numbers of X,others are investigation/scouting etc..end of the day virutally all MMORPGs involve killing ie WoW,EQ2,Vanguard,SWG etc to name a few,end of the day MMORPGS are not for everyone.

The instances are quite fun, getting in a guild also helps.

At level 10 you still got a lot of things to do (ie go duel class)and see, infact it gets better higher up IMHO...ie some bosses at level 25+ require a RAID party(8 or more)...Don't forget the other new starting area (Steppes from 1 to 30+) its listed where your skills are so hit K and you'll see it listed there ,you can teleport to that area.

I'm actually catching up on my crafting side of things, that's going to take me awhile.

Having a lot of fun so far as a tank/2H badass K/W, can't wait to hit Mirrors soon (level 34 atm).

How much real $ was your permamount Mem? Was thinking of buying some diamonds to do the same.

BTW whatever you do, do NOT open recipes that you sent in the mail/have in your mail or you'll lose them. They are still fixing this issue from what I've heard. I also hope they fix the dam transmuter already, I have a lot of gear I need to upgrade.

There will always be grinding quests in MMO's... otherwise there's no easy-out time sinks for the devs.

I play on Artemis, and there are ALWAYS people in the cities. So much so that usually the game will crash if I don't stop for a minute to let everything load (they really need more latency tolerance).

Other than that, I am really going to have to force myself to get out of "MMO-mode" with this one. I still get the "one-more-level" bug, and have to remind myself repeatedly it's F2P! No guilt if I log off and do it tomorrow! (I guess that's a testament to how good it is)

Yeah, it's just all I've been doing. Killing lame enemies and collecting crap. Even the "new" Steppes area is the exact same.

I was in the LotRO beta, and it got way more interesting much faster.

lol.. I feel the same way about this. I'm sick and tired of this go kill 10 X crap. I know it looks like there's not much they can do with this, but I'm sure they can come up with something. The basic MMORPG formula has been done to death, so it's time for a change I say.

I really tried to like ROM, and played it for about 3 days, but then I just count take it anymore. There's just too much grinding, and it insults my intelligence to hunt "living mushroom thingies" and "baby animals" or spend several minutes just chopping away at a tree stomp or "mining" a rock... I know there's babies are replaced by fully grown specimens later, and grinding materials is required for crafting, but the game just somehow feels like it was intended for much younger audiences. (despite the fact that it's not)

Maybe something like Eve Online you might prefer then.

Getting back to killing I try not to grind or go on a killing spree,I group a lot and try to have fun, healers can do less killing then most (infact in groups I never need to kill) so maybe look at changing classes.

Well, they said the next patch won't be released until Feb 12th which sucks. I hope they hotfix the freaking arcane transmuter SOON b/c what's the point if you can't upgrade your gear or even runes? I guarantee you this was not a mistake, heard that upper level runes were somehow able to be unbound by the transmuter, but it still shouldn't take a WEEK to fix this.

Also, not being able to open recipes in the mail needs to be hotfixed asap b/c my mule is on backlog (had to create another one) and I can't retreive the backlogged mail. But at least they acknowledged this, even though they won't give lost recipes back (my buddy informed he lost 5 and they just told him they can't help with that). However, they won't even discuss the transmuter problem which makes me think they may be majorly revamping it somehow. Hopefully they get their sht together and are just slow b/c their dev's are Chinese (New Year).

News announcement.

Dear Runes of Magic Community,

After reading through the forums for the last couple of days, collecting your feedback and a a couple long internal discussions, it's time to give you an update of the current state of the game.

The game is in Open Beta for almost about 50 days now and we all know that the last couple of weeks went not quite as smoothly as we all wished for - in terms of stability, content and general polishing.

We got a lot of feedback on different topics, but here are the current hot-topics we would like to comment on today:

* Delay of Patch / Testserver
* Diamond-trade in the Auction House
* Mobs / Drops / NPC - PC balancing
* Item Shop balancing
* Spammers, Bots & Naming Policy

Delay of Patch / Testserver
Earlier we announced that we won't publish any content update until the 12th of February because this week the people at Runewaker celebrated the Chinese New Year and that from next week on we first put new patches on our semi-internal testserver before we deploy them to the live servers.

We know that under the current circumstances this is not necessarily the most popular decision - we are aware that a number of our users experience regular client crashes and that for some the game's performance is sub-par. We are aware that these - and many more - issues should be addressed as quickly as possible.

But with all this said, we have good reason for this delay:

1) In China and the surrounding countries the New Year holidays are probably the most important holidays and the development team really deserves this break. They have been working long hours - our main contact at Runewaker was on call 24/7 and was online for many hours each day.

2) Up until now we relied on Runewaker's QA but after all the feedback we got from our community we have decided to set up our own semi-internal testserver so we can ensure that new updates don't introduce new bugs. It is obvious that we can't test all scenarios ourselves and will therefore invite selected players and guilds that - in cooperation with our internal testers - will then have the opportunity to check-out new patches on the testserver at least a week before we deploy them to the live servers. This then gives Runewaker and us enough time to work on hotfixes so that we can improve stability and quality.

Diamond-trade in the Auction House
A few weeks ago we had to disable Diamond-trading through the auction house because we were victims of credit card fraud. Some third parties used stolen credit cards to buy Diamonds through our system to sell them at cheaper prices for real money. All these transactions were cancelled by the credit card holders after discovering the incident.

As you can imagine, this was a quite heavy hit - we need the revenue from the Diamond sales to pay for our running costs of service and of course the further development of the game.

However: We do want the feature back in game as soon as possible. This is why we are talking to external payment service providers to improve fraud protection and improve our level of service.

As soon as this is solved, we will reactivate ingame Diamond trading again.

Mobs / Drops / NPC - PC balancing
At some point we have introduced very challenging monsters to the game that are extremely strong - these "one-hitters" are currently under investigation in terms of behaviour, strength and loot drops.

Loot itself is also something we are looking into - we are pulling data and analyse the loot tables of each of the bosses and elite mobs. The loot tables are not yet final and we are tweaking them to ensure that you get appropriate rewards for each challenge.

Item Shop - Balancing
There are complaints on the forums about the items we are offering in the Item Shop. There were complaints that many items could only be obtained through the shop. We have therefore opened the "Phirius-Token" (formerly knows as "Bierdine Tokens") shop. Momentarily we made only a limited set of items available through this shop, but we have already plans to change that.

Additionally certain items that are not yet available through general gameplay will be added to boss-mob loot tables.

Spammers, Bots & Naming Policy
Runes of Magic has rules against players spamming, using software to run the game automatically (botting) and giving their characters questionable names.

We have stated many times that we want to keep the game fair and fun for everyone - so we ask you to report any sightings of botters, spammers and characters violating the naming policy right away.

Our customer support team will then investigate the matter and suspend the offending accounts when appropriate.

Bug reports & Suggestions
Your opinion counts! Although we can't reply to each and every of your bug reports and suggestions in detail, we do read them.

All reported bugs are entered into our internal bug-tracking software and are prioritised. Every week we forward this list to Runewaker so they can then schedule in resources to work on fixes. Please note that not all bugs can be fixed at once, because they are caused by interactions between several of the game's systems. Fixing these requires some time.

Your suggestions are also still very welcome! We take all your input into consideration and use it to further improve the game, so please keep sending us your feedback!

Hotfix coming first week of February
We have already contacted Runewaker and asked them to work on a hotfix to patch the most current bugs over the weekend and the beginning of next week. This hotfix can be expected to arrive sometime in the course of next week.

Additionally we will then erase all XP and TP debt from all characters as a first gesture of goodwill.

When we can safely assume that the situation has been resolved every player will receive a little token of gratitude for your patience...

I hope this helps you to better understand the situation and that we are really taking your concern and criticism on board. Not everything may be perfect, but we are learning our lessons.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your continuing support and hope that you will keep enjoying Runes of Magic!

Is the XP/TP debt reset for debt we currently have, or debt we've incurred throughout the life of each character?
