Raw Video: Police Slam Wrong Man Into a Wall

In defense of the cop, he got really unlucky to land the guy in a coma. He had to hit the wall just right and land awkwardly like that.

But definitely excessive, fire him, etc. etc.

That's no defense at all, why did he have to shove him.

Firing squad, stat! That's not how you do your job, and an innocent is now in coma. That guy is going to probably get fired and sued.

just out of curiosity, are you ever allowed to defend yourself from the police?

Yes. When they are out of uniform and/or you have a reasonable reason to believe you are being attacked by somebody who isn't an officer.

Regardless of whether or not the officer thought the person was a suspect in an assault, that's excessive force. Absolutely no need to body-check the guy into the wall.
