I agree... as long as you are not "hurting" anyone else in the process... eat as much as you want, smoke as much as you want, drink as much as you want.

Designers fo mass transit don't care about you. They care about moving people. They shoot for averages, not exceptions. They build in ADA compliance and that's it.

People who are obese should lose weight. Not for reasons of saving space on planes or buses, but for their own health. The fact that obesity is a problem is sad... People need to do their part to be healthy for them. 1 hour of exercise extends your life by 2 hours.... Obesity simply shortens your life and wears on your heart and joints.

my wife is a bit thick...so she should loose weight, maybe by exercising and eating right...

tell her that while she munches a carrot stick and runs past you doing a 5K.....some people ARE bigger, it's a fact of life. My wife can run 5K's, and I'll bet most the pimply faced skinny pasty geeks on here couldn't do that....

She just needs to take in less calories than her body needs per day.

Uh....yeah, Did I not mention she has dieted and not lost weight? That was counting calories, and ensuring that she has less coming in then going out....didn't help. Thanks for that useful idea, we never would have thought of it ourselves....

the hate on this forum is excessive

There is no hate in this discussion, dude. It's a legitimate discussion. Send your knee-jerk reaction to Jesse Jackson, I'm sure he could use it.

I'm not sure if fat people feel guilty over taking up more than one seat, but usually it's not a big deal anyway, there's generally other seats.

I do feel that in a situation where you pay for seats, unless the person can provide a valid medical reason (basically a "I'm fat because of a gland issue/other health problem" note from your doctor) they should be required to pay for as many seats as they take up. Airlines and movie theatres shouldn't be required to lose money because you chose to cram an extra 4 Ring Dings into your disgusting, wobbly face.

Agreed!

But, pay more for occupying more than ur designated share of seat in a bus or plane. Or start a revolution against airline company to discriminate against u for having small seats.

No. Doubt it. But you would be a lot weaker, that would be the major difference.

If you body burns 1500 calories per day, and you only take in 1100 calories, you are going to lose weight. Or your body isn't burning 1500 calories a day.
Plus running, I would guess subtracts an extra 200-300 calories per day.
It may not be all fat, in fact it will be a good amount of muscle too, but you will lose it, unless you have a medical problem that prevents that loss?

Well I hate having a huge person lump over the arm rest at a movie theatre... and then forcing me to smell the fat on their bodys while trying to watch the film.

Happened Yesterday...

How can anyone side with not having guilt if they were taking up 2+ seats? Unless they were a "fat a-hole". Excuse me for being frank.

1. I'm not that fat. Never taken more than 1 seat.

2. Usually stand on the bus and Metro, so it's a moot point.

3. People who are that fat generally (note I say generally) don't care too much about others. See also: taking motorized scooters intended for old and handicapped people at Wal-Mart.

Aren't you hurting your family, loved ones, friends, etc. when you die of a heart attack at 40 years old? That's my biggest problem (aside from just being sorry/lazy, excluding medical conditions) with obese people. If you don't give a crap about how you look or your health, at least care enough to not die or have bad health problems when you have a spouse or kids.

I have a coworker who is overweight and she obviously doesn't care based on all the McDonald's combo meals I see her enjoying every day. But she has a husband and a teenage daughter. When you know the statistics associated with being obese and eating poorly, with ZERO exercise, why would your family not become an incentive to better yourself?

LOL, and on top of that, he gets an attitude when you have to get up and go to the restroom, as if someone just asked him to climb up a mountain.

Damn, i hate fat people.... :p not really

That is why I always request an aisle seat. Always.

yes you are hurting your loved ones, but people can talk til they are blue in the face and it won't matter. That person has to make their own choices and decesions. If they do not realize what they are doing... it's unfortunate, but there is nothing that anyone can tell them that would make them stop. It is THEM and only them who can chose to change.

I find it amazing the hatred people feel about fat people, then these same people are able to forgive a drug addict or a murderer. The biggest problem is that doctors know very little about what biological processes make some people fat and others so skinny, that they never gain weight. Why should we feel better about a drunk than a fat person?

Maybe you have a hard time accepting fat people! Do you feel the same about minorities?

What fuels your hate and misunderstanding?

same here. at 6'3" i want to weigh about 220 or so, when i get below that my ribs are sticking out. too bad my horrible eating habits and sedentary lifestyle keep me above my goal. but my ass fits in the airplane seats, my shoulders are what are too wide.

Its not the hatred against fat people... its just the ones that really dont care about others and themselves, in the process.

With rapists and murderers, people are more involved in the victim and assuming the doer is wrong and should be punished anyways, so nothing more to say about them.

My shoulders are my problem, too. On airplanes I have to hunch my shoulders forward or put my arms around the shoulders of the people on either side of me. The latter can be a bit of a problem when you're stuck between people you don't know. :p

I think they are the same size as always but in general, the people sitting in them are getting a bit larger.
I won't get into the whole idea of society and obeasity though. it has been done to death.

I am just a judgmental person. I find obesity offensive. I often wonder if it's genetically programmed into us.

i was sitting in the bus today and noticed how this really fat lady sat in the middle of 3 seats in the front section, while her waist was taking up the two seats beside her. if i were her i'd feel like i got some physical issues to be taking up 3 seats like that while people are standing up in the bus.

You don't think she already knows that?

I agree... I am sure all heavy people know they are heavy. it is not some shock to them. From all the reasearch i have read and all the TV shows i have seen on Discovery Health, etc, i have realized that many people do actually have physical disabilities and actual health problems that lead them to being over weight. Some are just lazy and eat too much, but many do have valid and (rather sad) health issues.

I agree these conditions exist but I also think it has become 'okay' to just be fat (or in our oh so PC world, 'overweight/horizontally challenged') if you want to be. Hey, that's fine with me too. I just think the term 'many' is overused in reference to those with weight problems because it is read by 'many' to be the same as 'majority'.

I think the worst part is that she took up 3 seats needlessly. 1 seat per cheek should have been sufficient.

Bullsh1t..

fat people eat a lot and get little exercise; skinny people eat less and get more exercise
