The PSP is more powerful than the PS2.

more powerful than PS2? if thats true then its pointless cuz its on a crappy small screen...lol

It's not 'more powerful then the ps2'. SOME games do look COMPARABLE to the PS2 versions BECAUSE it is ON A SMALL SCREEN. It runs a much lower res of 480x272.

well i guess spoiled children are in for a treat. 250 dollars yeesh.

Well like the PS2 at launch it was more for the 16 or 18-25 area who have money and spend it on stuff like this. Not many 'kids' 10yrs and under will have a PSP unless Mommy or Daddy gets them one :p

You really can't compare the SP to the PSP. Unless the SP had similar graphics, screen size, resolution, mp3, WiFi/video capabilities then I'd say you had a valid arguement but that isn't the case. I love my SP but it has it's limitations, the games are fun but I'm ready for something a bit more sophisticated.

I intend to play mine on my 1 hour train commute to and from work so a 5-6 hour battery life is all I need. Non 3D games have been capable of getting 9 hours from the PSP, only when you start playing the graphic intesive games like Ridge Racer do you see the batter drain faster.

My $2,000 IBM T41 came with dead pixels, my LCD at work has dead pixels, its just product of mass manufacturing. Some people will be lucky to get a unit without one, some won't. It's a fact of life, even DS's have had reports of dead pixels, nothing is safe.

The PSP isn't for everyone, it is clear by it's initial design. Gone is the plastic, clunky design of older handheld consoles. From day one these units were targeted at an older audience, the Nintendo generation has grown up and hold jobs and perhaps even have families. The point is that they have disposible income and don't mind spending $250 - $400 dollars on gadgets and games. For me, it's a small investment for an item that will kill time to and from work. The highschoolers will scream and yell that it is too expensive, the games are too expensive but that isn't their target audience. The majority of the gadget buyers are males 18 and above and that is who Sony is targeting with these prices.

I totaly agree.

dr150 your laptop cost HOW much more then the PSP? Hows the battery life at full brightness and wifi on? :p

For what it is the graphics are slick, the games will be good and of course you will get a lot OF CRAP GAMES but that is a fact.

Dead pixels? You will get some as it is a fact of the LCD manufacturing process.

I have had my PSP for 3 months and 2 weeks. No dead pixel no dody Square button.

You would have to twist your PSP a lot to get the game to come out imo. If you want to twist something that is $250 go ahead! In 'normal' use and in my bag nothing has happened to it. I'm sure if you twist an ipod so the sides are not parallel anymore something is going to crack or any other player...

You obviously have not read the specs. It runs at a lower res than SOME ps2 games. There are plenty of PS2 games that run at 320X240. If the PSP ran at 640X480, it would pull better fps in the same game than the ps2. And if it was hooked up to an ac adapter, you wouldnt have to worry about battery life.

The ONLY reason the newest games dont look as good as GT4 is because if they use the PSP hardware to it's fullest through the whole game, the battery life will dive.

Im going to stick with the ds. MUCH longer battery life, better game lineup, backwards compatibility with the GBA games, touch screen, good wireless support, and it is made by a company who has been challenged over 10 times in the handheld market and never came close even once to losing the number one spot.

PSP = Movie player (looks great btw)
PSP= MP3 Player (up to 2 gig mem cards are availible)
PSP= wireless gaming anywhere with anyone in the world... standard 802.11b that will connect to the internet and find games
PSP=24 super hot big name titles ever one with wireless capabilities...

Sony has already commented that the PSP will eventually have internet browser... camera and phone.. and possibly a hard drive in the future...

249 for a device that eliminates my 300+ dollar MP3 player and the need to carry my 600 dollar PDA around for data storage/internet and can play movies and games.. hell ya,,

Love the fact that the PSP already has some games with with online internet play. Can't wait to fire up Twisted Metal and kick some arse with folks all around the country. Read a post yesterday from someone who has TW running that it does indeed support internet co-op play. Hadn't seen that mentioned in any reviews yet (or else I just missed it).

And after seeing a video of a disc simply flying out of the machine, I was pretty much sure I'd never buy one. But if that wasn't enough, a friend of mine bought one from Japan since he knew they wouldn't be Region Coded (the games) and had the same thing happen to him. He says all you have to do is simply tap around the disc and it can just fly out.

Imagine playing some new Final Fantasy game, for 5 hours strait or something, and having the disc just fly out of the PSP. From what I understand, even if you saved, sometimes the last saved game will get deleted or something when this happens. We'll see if the American units are made any better, chances are they aren't, could even be worse.

If you think Sony's not going to fix this immediately, then you're not on the ball my friend...

10 Times? I can't remember 10 handhelds that have come out since the original GB came out... the only one I can think of is the Game Gear  What are the other 9?

the PSP is tiny...
its smaller than my DELL pocket PC...
have you even held one yet?
its less than the size of a creative MP3 player end to end...
weighs less too...
quit talking about soemthing you dont even have or have seen yet...
my hands dwarf the psp... its just a little bigger than a PS2 controller

Nintendo used to rule the console market as well.

But they don't anymore.

I'd like to see a TV tuner for the PSP. That would rock.....or maybe even something to hook it up to a large tv when you want to watch it on the big screen.

hey, with Sony's location free TV line and the PSP's built in wifi, that doesn't sound too far fetched.

NO WAY would you see current PSP games or imo future PSP gmaes BETTER PS2 graphics ON A SCREEN THE SAME SIZE.

PS2 would look MUCH sharper and better on a 4.3" widescreen.

The PSP can't and won't run 640x480 because the screen is only 480x272 res. The more pixels the faster hardware you need to push it give the same speed. And it is a PORTABLE system so you can't access the UMD or run the hardware at 'max' speed all the time. You do have to be conservative BUT that is what the PSP is all about. Mix up for graphics and battery performance.

The only reason I see is if you don't own a car and have a lengthy commute.

I work at a liquor store, since I'm the only one working durring my shift, I don't get dinner or a break. I hate standing around bored, and I HATE stocking the liquor and cig's. I bought a Gamecube + a 7" LCD to play while nobody was in the store, but it was too bulky. I think PSP will be perfect for me. I can pick it up and play for the few minutes here and there where there's no customers in the store.
