im at work so cant check the websites where i'd get the information....

what level is the PSP? is it as good as a PS1 graphics/physics wise? or better or worse?

i think in the UK its being targeted for around £200 (which is around US$360 -/+)

personally i wouldnt buy portables as i dont have lengths of time where i could use them properly, if im at home im on my puter, if im at work im working, travel time from one t'other is only 20 mins....lol

i almost bought a Gameboy Advance to hook up to my Gamecube for Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker....then thought, wait a sec, thats about the only reason i'd be using it, why fork out £80 (plus cables or whatever) for it, when strictly it isnt necessary to play the game, just adds a little extra dimension....lol

The PSP is more powerful than the PS2.

That's because nintendo portables SUCK and they've totally cornered the market in the past decade! The PSP will put nintendo to shame, and all Nintendo DS owners will rightfully feel like second class citizens.

nope. gaming on the go not that important to me. the idea of carrying a huge pocket wart all day so i can play a few minutes on the cr@pper? bah

and umd movies. what a joke. it double dips anyone that already owns the dvd. and not to mention the inferior quality to begin with so u can't play it back on home theater. imagine if the ipod charged u money to rip cds u own to mp3 so it could use it.

and soon 250 will get u a decent divx portable. just a matter of time. no double dippin.

early 90's it was not, but nintendo has rested on their laurels, which is why the PSP smokes the living sh*t out of the DS, even though both are released in the same period, and the PSP is not THAT much more expensive.

It may be small but by all reports it is defintely not crappy. Most reviewers found the screen to be incredibly vivid and beautiful to look at.

Until it's lifelike, you can always use more processing power!

With all the problems regarding the PSP, I don't see how anyone can get so excited. Portable gaming machines are about overall portability, and also battery life. From what I hear so far, everyone is in agreement of one thing, the battery life on the PSP suxx.

And after seeing a video of a disc simply flying out of the machine, I was pretty much sure I'd never buy one. But if that wasn't enough, a friend of mine bought one from Japan since he knew they wouldn't be Region Coded (the games) and had the same thing happen to him. He says all you have to do is simply tap around the disc and it can just fly out.

Imagine playing some new Final Fantasy game, for 5 hours strait or something, and having the disc just fly out of the PSP. From what I understand, even if you saved, sometimes the last saved game will get deleted or something when this happens. We'll see if the American units are made any better, chances are they aren't, could even be worse.

The battery life is very good according to the things I read. You have a link showing the battery life to be poor? What are your expectations?

As for the disc flying out of the machine, you have a link to the video? I would like to see that. :)

When they are $149 or less and someone hacks them to play MAME I will get one. $250 is too much. Especially for a Rev A product.

I'm waiting for the developers here at PSP linux to get going. As soon as they do anything is possible.

MAME, Web Browser, WiFi finder, etc...

Seriously, I get a 10% discount on everything in my department, so I get 'em for $225. I could ship for maybe $5, so any takes at about $240 ish? I got to make money some how.

Quote from article above ::

""As to the flying-disc glitch, we were brave enough to use one of our precious PSP units to test the theory. We stabilized the unit with our left hand, turned forward ever so slightly with our right and--SHAZAM!--out the disc popped.""

This has so far happened more then once to my friend, I guess it you barely even tap the disc cover, or even move it slightly, it pops out. He has since had fewer problems (Since he knows its there) but it has still become an issue from time to time.

And lastly, as far as the battery life well ..... just go and find ANY review, whether its IGN, gamespot or what have you. Every review I've read pretty much had the same thing's to say about the PSP's battery life, its crap.

This IGN article states that at full brightness and volume that they were able to get 3 hours and 32 minutes off a full battery charge. In addition to that they said that it was only necessary to play on low brightness as that was more than adequate for viewing.

If you read on, you can see that the PSP is getting 5+ hours on various other tests with full brightness. However while playing on WiFi the battery life diminishes greatly but, that is to be expected.

Unless you plan on playing your PSP for 5-6 hours more at a time then I really don't see battery life as a problem and if you do just buy another battery.

According to this article Sony has addressed the manufacturing defect causing the X button to function improperly, hopefully they also took steps to fix the UMD problem.

What about all the dead pixels? Gamespot confirmed that as well in that same link I posted.

As for the battery life, well ... I guess our definitions on what suxx, differ. 5 hours is inadequate for a device such as this. 8 hours is minimum. And as for buying another battery? Yea right, $249 is already too much, I'm not about to drop another $49 just so I can play for the same 10 hours my GameBoy SP gets.

Oh and my SP games only cost $29, sometimes I can get them for even less brand new. I usually buy them used if I can find them instead, so I spend even less for the games. $49 per game on a hand held is outrageous. I have a hard time justifying that when something comes out on a console that I have to buy right away. Much less on a portable that I don't play as much.

These are the things that are important to me, and why I won't buy one. If the games were $39 even, I could better justify the cost. But even then, the unit itself just costs too much.

Which is a shame too because I use my SP a lot, and Sony could have gotten my business with this since I play games on the road a lot. I end up places with no way to charge the battery for longer periods of time too, so I would definetely have to buy another battery.

I honestly don't know that they will charge $49 for another battery, but that seems like a pretty accurate number to me. So I would have the unit, battery, and two games, and BAMM, I've spent $400??? Yea right, not for me thank you.

You really can't compare the SP to the PSP. Unless the SP had similar graphics, screen size, resolution, mp3, WiFi/video capabilities then I'd say you had a valid arguement but that isn't the case. I love my SP but it has it's limitations, the games are fun but I'm ready for something a bit more sophisticated.

I intend to play mine on my 1 hour train commute to and from work so a 5-6 hour battery life is all I need. Non 3D games have been capable of getting 9 hours from the PSP, only when you start playing the graphic intesive games like Ridge Racer do you see the batter drain faster.

My $2,000 IBM T41 came with dead pixels, my LCD at work has dead pixels, its just product of mass manufacturing. Some people will be lucky to get a unit without one, some won't. It's a fact of life, even DS's have had reports of dead pixels, nothing is safe.

The PSP isn't for everyone, it is clear by it's initial design. Gone is the plastic, clunky design of older handheld consoles. From day one these units were targeted at an older audience, the Nintendo generation has grown up and hold jobs and perhaps even have families. The point is that they have disposible income and don't mind spending $250 - $400 dollars on gadgets and games. For me, it's a small investment for an item that will kill time to and from work. The highschoolers will scream and yell that it is too expensive, the games are too expensive but that isn't their target audience. The majority of the gadget buyers are males 18 and above and that is who Sony is targeting with these prices.

I'll take my laptop to the crapper instead for some wireless Counterstrike goodness. ;) Or how about watching a movie in widescreen instead of a little screen?

PSP = Hype
PSP = Price Gouge
PSP = Ghosting
PSP = Crap battery life
PSP = Ain't that portable. Rather big!
PSP = Expensive games at $40 for a portable
PSP = Dangerous disc flying out of it! :D

At least Gameboy is portable/cheap enough and games interesting enough to shoot the sh!t for a couple of minutes. PSP is EXPENSIVE BLOAT for what it is.
