<< Just turned 80,000 miles on my 99 Grand Prix GT. Just made a trip where a 75mph cruise got me 31mpg on 87 octane. Repair cost's to date ZERO! Had one warranty repair, the trunk release button came loose. I will never buy another Jap piece of Crap!! >>
I hope you're knocking on wood whenever you say that.
Here's a lovely little overview of the issues my father has had with his 97 Grand Prix. At 87,000 miles the main bearings failed in the motor, costing a hefty $4300 for parts and labor. At 93,000 miles, the catalytic converter crapped out, costing $1000 for a replacement. At 112,000 miles, the transmission ate itself to pieces costing $2400 for parts and labor. Also, between 60,000 and 75,000 miles, the headlamp covers fell off the car, and needed to be replaced at about $80 a piece. Lastly, the passenger side power window needs to be replaced as it only works in coldweather and will cease to work when it warms up in the summer. Considering that my 93 Honda Accord has 140,000 miles on it and has costed less that $1000 for unscheduled maintenance, that Grand Prix is an absolutely pathetic piece of sh!t. Fortunately, he will be selling it this summer and replacing it with either a Lexus IS300 or Audi S4. Keep in mind the KBB value is less than what that car has costed in maintenance. Pathetic.
I'm not implying that all American cars of crap, and all Japanese cars are saintly, but American manufacturers still have some work to do.
