<< I've owned one Jap car, a 1985 Isuzu, never again, will I buy Jap, and get raped on repair cost's! >>

Ah, Isuzu. The gold standard of Japanese quality.

I love(d) my pontiacs and the rest of my GM cars. Only problem with the 80s vehicles...........Not ONE major problem until 95-100,000 miles. Then the engine throws a rod. Seems that way with all of the GM cars I've had. Not ONE major problem and then out of the blue the engine blows. I love my 95 Grand Am with 95K on it. She's a bit louder and moans and groans every once and a while, but the only repair I had was a $600 "tune-up" ar 75,000. Otherwise the front brakes go every 25-30,000. $50 pad/rotor repair job if you do it yourself.

You're joking right? Thats like saying, "I'm never buying a European car again! My Yugo has given me nothing but problems!"

Everyone I know with a Jap car, has major problems, and they always have to order parts, lots of downtime.

1) I'm sorry to say it, but your friends must drive like chimpanzees.
2) Most Japanese cars I know of come with a 3-4 year warranty...when were your "friends" having problems?
3) Umm, if something goes wrong with a car, you normally DO have to order parts no matter what it is.
4) Kinda funny how you chose NOT TO ANSWER all of the other points brought up after your last post...

Trolling, trolling, trolling, keep flame those posts coming...:disgust:

I always wonder why some people hold such hostility towards a car based on where it's made.

An tiny group of your "friends" with problems with "Jap" cars and your problem with Isuzu proves that Japanese cars are pieces of sh1t? And your three experiences with reliable American cars make all of them superior?

I think you know where I'm going with this.

Notice that the other two American vehicles are TRUCKS!! That's the one thing that America RARELY gets wrong😉

And how can you compare the quality of an '85 Japanese truck to current Japanese cars?? Hell, even back in '85 Japanese cars were smoking domestics in build quality.

Good point NFS4. American trucks are rock solid. But to be fair comparing 20 year old cars is a moot point. American cars have increased in build quality by leaps and bounds since those crazy 80's thanks to stiff competition from Japanese and German automakers.

Amen! I love my Dodge 2500 🙂

And as far as quality studies go, look at JD Power's result for '01:

http://www.jdpa.com/presspass/pr/images/0113bfull.gif

Out of the cars, Japanese take top spot in 6 out of 9 categories 66%. Swedes take 1 and domestics take 2.
Out of trucks, Japanese take 5 out of 7 categories 71%. Domestics take the other 2 spots.

So take a dose of STHU and call me in the morning😉

I have bad luck with my pontiac (ntworks.org/firebird)

in the last 2 years, I have replaced the whole A/C system, water pump, radiator, power steering pump, and clutch ('course that was likely from my "agressive" driving)

Weren't you gonna get a Corvette a while back??

NSF4,
Now let's look at a price point and quality. Sure, a Lexus or a BMW, or a high end Toyota may be rated better, but how much is really saved when over 2-5 years you drop $2000 in repairs on that poor $14-18K Grand Prix or $13-16K Grand Am over $100 or so for repairs on a $20-$40k Toyota or Lexus?

Did you bother looking at the JD Power link in my post above?? The cars are LISTED BY CATEGORY, hence PRICE RANGE.

And let's not forget resale value. If Japanese cars were such a BITCH to repair, their resale wouldn't be as high.

Thanks for the link. I'm surprised the ugly Toyota Prius and Echo grabbed top spots, well not actually since they are Toyota's. Would like to see a Mazda MP3 or Honda Civic in that category.

I can't believe the idiotic morons who say "Jap pieces of crap" and suggest buying a POS domestic car instead of Japanese.

Why is it that I see more Toyota Corolla/Camry, Honda Civic/Accord, Nissan Sentra/Maxima, Subaru's on the road compared to their Domestic counterparts?

LOL, if it wasn't for the Taurus' BOATLOAD of rental sales, it'd be no where near the top in sales😉 It'd be down there with the Grand Prix.

But Americans love their Japanese cars, and they continue to buy them...in fact, most of them are built here in the good old USA🙂 I know that the Accord/Camry are...I belive that the Corolla/Civic are as well.

<< Just turned 80,000 miles on my 99 Grand Prix GT. Just made a trip where a 75mph cruise got me 31mpg on 87 octane. Repair cost's to date ZERO! Had one warranty repair, the trunk release button came loose. I will never buy another Jap piece of Crap!! >>

I hope you're knocking on wood whenever you say that.

Here's a lovely little overview of the issues my father has had with his 97 Grand Prix. At 87,000 miles the main bearings failed in the motor, costing a hefty $4300 for parts and labor. At 93,000 miles, the catalytic converter crapped out, costing $1000 for a replacement. At 112,000 miles, the transmission ate itself to pieces costing $2400 for parts and labor. Also, between 60,000 and 75,000 miles, the headlamp covers fell off the car, and needed to be replaced at about $80 a piece. Lastly, the passenger side power window needs to be replaced as it only works in coldweather and will cease to work when it warms up in the summer. Considering that my 93 Honda Accord has 140,000 miles on it and has costed less that $1000 for unscheduled maintenance, that Grand Prix is an absolutely pathetic piece of sh!t. Fortunately, he will be selling it this summer and replacing it with either a Lexus IS300 or Audi S4. Keep in mind the KBB value is less than what that car has costed in maintenance. Pathetic.

I'm not implying that all American cars of crap, and all Japanese cars are saintly, but American manufacturers still have some work to do.

Then there's people who argue "buy American". I forget the stats but A LOT of "domestic" cars are mostly built/assembled in Canada or Mexico. I think BMW has a new plant somewhere on the east coast? Toyota = Georgetown, KY and Honda = Ohio? Last time I checked those were all states within the USA and US jobs are being supported.
