<< You haven't told me what Push-to-Talk does or what it is good for.

Why do I want this on my PDA? What does it do for me?

If you describe it to me, I can tell you a counterpart technology that is available for Palms.
>>

Have you heard of Nextel's direct connect?

Why would you not want walkie talkie functions on your PDA?

It utilizes a Java GUI, interfacing with a local wireless TCP IP network. It the can be routed via land lines to other wireless LANS. Potentially you can use the PTT function with someone across the world.

Yeah but you gotta remember that Palm has 400 less employees now so whatever they need, they can just shout across the room.

Regarding your quote, NFS4...you're not wrong. :)

Yep, that's true. My school's library "appliances" (y'know...those things that look up books) uses Windows CE. Why they couldn't go with at least 98, I'll never know but no one ever complains.

We most certainly did not talk about this. You kept repeating "battery life is not important" to yourself over and over, as if that will somehow make the statement true.

Unfortunately for you and unfortunately for Microsoft, battery life matters. Anyone who does not want to be tethered to their home computer on a 12-hour daily cycle appreciates this. You may not.

This is false. I am a homebrew Dreamcast developer so I know.

Microsoft paid Sega oodles of money to put a Windows CE logo on every Dreamcast. They also ported Windows CE to the Dreamcast. However, Windows CE was not included onboard the Dreamcast. Any game developer that chose to develop a game that runs on top of Windows CE would have to include Windows CE runtime files on the GD-ROM along with the game files.

Nobody used Windows CE for developing games. Everybody used Sega's Katana Dreamcast game development library.

Over the life of the Dreamcast, a grand total of 3 Windows CE based games were released for the Dreamcast. (Virtua Cop, Virtua Cop 2, Defense Commander) These 3 games are famous for being 3 of the worst Dreamcast games ever produced.

alright guys (NSF4, Ronin) im gonna help too:

1) Palms cant use IE like PPC can
2) PALMS cant do video like PPC Can
3) PALMS cant make ad hoc 802.11b networks where PPC can
4) PALMS cant get new Developer support like PPC can (just think of the 2 million VB Progammers that can compile for ARM procs now)
5) PALMS cant VPN (we arent talking about just controlling a desktop we are talking about VPNing into a corporate network, idiot.)
6) PALMS cant play SimCity2000 (I agree that alone owns you)
7) PALMS dont have the support of the biggest computer hardware manufacturs in the world like PPC does.
8) PALMS eatt ass cause they have their own propietary memory where PPC uses COMpact Flash and can use smart media.
9) PALM has graffitii while PPC has Graffitii and Transcriber with no real estate taken up.
10) When you were talking about windows CE licenses being lost, you didnt talk about the gains, CE is in every color ATM you see, and every new gas pump made, it is being placed into info kiosks at malls across the nation.

11) youre a dumbass.

We're not talking about 12 hours cycles. We're talking about 12 hours of USE. Can you say you use your Palm more than 12 hours a day and cannot be bothered to put it in the cradle when you sleep?

If so, then you are either very busy or very sad.

I think the latter.

And you cannot be bothered to bring an AC adapter which weighs a few grams and takes up about the same amount of space as a chocolate bar?

Do you not stay in hotels with outlets?

...and do you actually use your PDA for 12 hours on a trip? What the hell for? Don't you see sights or talk to people?

My Palm lasts 2 months without one and does everything anyone could possibly need.

Why the hell should I bother?

Your PDA can't even last two days in a row!

ai yah....we're talking about going on vacations now?

What a small aspect of your EVERYDAY life it is.

We're talking about a device that we use approx 365 days a year, 30-40 days of vacation time means nothing.

As I have mentioned many times before. I own a Sony PEG-S320 which uses PALM OS 4.0 Don't get me wrong. I love it but unlike you, I acknowledge that PPC has better features and is the way of the future.

Then you are very lazy. You can't even plug in something when you sleep and yet you can make ridiculous arguments.

Let's take a poll. Who here cannot be bother enough to plug in their PDA for a few hours a night, even on vacation? Hmm? Does this affect your decision between PPC and Palm?

If you're the kind of man who settles for half-ass solutions that don't work half the time, go right ahead.

I want something that I can use anywhere anytime.

When I am on vacation, I am doing just that , vacationing. That means leaving behind any remnants of work. Why do I need to use my PDA at all?

<sigh> you're comparing Palm 4.1 with CE 2.0 again.

Oh, and for the record, I have had to reset my FROZEN Palm 4 times. And no, I have not overclocked it.

I doubt I would bring it with me on vacation. I'd probably leave my laptop in the hotel room too. Heh...why would you want to work on vacation?

This isn't about reliability, it's about battery life.

Stay a couple of days away from your computer / cradle / adaptor and your PDA is worthless.

Mine isn't! Mine lasts two months on the beach, camping, hiking, anywhere!

Why settle for less?
