You either have an airsoft or got down on your knees to get an AR15 with "more toys" for 900. You cant touch anything on an AR for under 100 bucks (barring small parts) and you cant get anything considered a "toy" for under probably 200. Even rail system will run you 250, up to 350 or more for full lengths. Lights? Fugetaboutit. 450 for a basic weapons light of decent quality. Lasers? Same boat. Oh, I suppose you could snag a bayonet on the cheap. But the real toys, the big boy toys? Nope. You could probably build one for around 9 if you shop hard and get good deals, but thats about it.
So, more to the point is what do you consider "toys" for an AR?

AR-15's are available for around $900 each as part of the Civilian Marksman Program (CMP).

And what do they shoot? .223?

They can be had for around $900.00

Most, but not all ARs are chambered for .223 and 5.56mm. 5.56mm is loaded hotter and the rifle needs to withstand the incresed pressure accordingly.

Nice setup, but I am not a fan of the price tags. I bought an SR15 out of Knights for a little more that had a similar a3 config with more toys

Then you got a hell of a deal.

Also, I have never heard of KAC selling their rifles to anyone but .mil and LEO. Maybe I am mistaken, or are you LEO?

Again, if you even got ONLY an SR15 for a littler more than $900, you probably ripped the person off a good grand or two.

Meh

And the toys?
I'm not saying you dont have the rifle. I'm saying your statement of having an AR and more toys for "just over" 900 is BS.
If you did ANYTHING worthwhile to that AR (Unless it came with it, which I doubt) then your well over 1500.

The dealer threw in SIXTY FIVE 30 round mags. Those were easily worth $10 each.

Most of them were the aluminum eagle USA mags, I sold them at a gun show to another dealer for $10 each and kept the colt/adventure line mags for myself. Then I gave 20 of the colt/adventure line mags away to friends for christmas presents.

That is not a rifle, that is an assualt weapon. How soon till we hear about you on the news when you kill a dozen people in your school, or place of work?

Now understand I own hand guns for protection, and rifle's and shotguns for hunting. I see only one use for an assualt weapon, and it is not for either of the above, unless you intend to add people to your hunting list.

Hunters are our worst enemies in the battle to Keep and Bear Arms. They think as long as they can have their ancient piece of crap rifle to shoot deer everything will be ok.
Disgusting. Completely unforgivable that as a gun owners you yourself would support laws banning guns. :frown:

Your no gun owner, no matter WHAT you may think of yourself.

I love how politicians brand a word and it instantly makes a rifle so much more dangerous. The only difference between an "assault" rifle and any other is the inclusion of bayonet lugs, higher capacity magazine, colapsable stock and a flash suppressor (not that it's not a silencer, but merly hides visible flash). None of those items has been directly linked to any crime in the US and has given any criminel any edge over a nrmal firearm.

I actually take some (not much) offense to that. I'm a hunter and yes I don't really see much use for an AR-15 although I do have one on order. I'll admit that I bit because I wanted a varmint rifle and these looked cool and I could do a little more with them than a normal bolt action .223

But I garuntee thats why most people have them, not because they make a good self defense weapon or that they have a groudhog or prarie dog problem, it's because people think they are cool. Now I supprot the NRA and can't really imagine supporting any more firearms restrictionss that arn't already in place, in fact a lot I think shouldn't be there. But the "hunter" mindset isn't a bad one, they just want to see a weapon serve a usefull purpose.

I had to read this a few times, because it seemed your point would prove the point of those in opposition to your desire to keep such rifles.

I am not a hunter, but using your description of hunters it would seem that they keep that which is useful to their purposes. I then ask again: What purpose does your rifle serve? I'd question the faculties of anyone purchasing such guns that can't be used for any practical purpose.

Just like people have race cars only to drive at high speeds on the highways and city streets, huh? People NEVER drive race cars in controlled environments in sanctioned races, just joy rides day in and out.

Asshat.

Except by that logic 90% of SUB owners should have those cars, and people shouldnt have as big of houses as they have, and the list goes on and on.
As for the purpose it serves, it serves the purpose of hunting (You can hunt with an AR), it serves the purpose of varminting, its used in mnay competitions from local to national levels. Its a sporting rifle. Its used for sport. Hunting, competitions, varminting.

But at the end of the day the point of ANY gun isnt do you NEED it, but rather that we are allowed by our laws to have it. Same as having a house bigger then we need, or a vehicle bigger then we need. Its the very core of a free country.

The origional purpose of a rifle in .223 rem is for varmints or preditors, ie coyotes, groundhogs, prarie dogs, ect. In fact it is illegal to hunt deer with them as considered inhumane because of the small caliber size.

5.56 mm became the standard military cartridge which for the most part is interchangable with .223 rem witht he exception of the "throat" of the cartridge, which led to military weapons that look cool and made people want to own them.

See above. Hunting, varminting, competitions, target shooting. It can be used for the same thing as any other rifle. People are just scared because mine has a black Rubbermaid stock instead of a wooden stock. Thats the ONLY differnence (loosely speaking)

Except that people can still drive these "race cars" to work, to the grocery store, etc.; they serve a definitely casual purpose as well.

Nice links. But I prefer to shop at RedWolfAirSoft.
I got the G3SAS (Tokyo Marui) with Level 4 upgrade. Was also foolish enough to pay for the desert camo paintjob.

The damn thing shipped with the generic plastic piston. It stripped after about 100 rounds. Cost me $65 plus parts to have it fixed here in the US.

But (overall) an excellent gun.

(P.S. If you have no clue what the heck I am talking about, then it wasnt meant for you.)

No, it IS legal to hunt deer with them, depending on State laws.
Check your lcoal state laws concerning this.

I completely agree with this and am not gonna argue it's points.

Oh and for the record at least in virginia you can't hunt with more than a 5 round magazine. and there arn't many animals which an AR would be my first pick to bring with me hunting.
