Several years back I drove a turbocharged 240SX out on Streets of Willow - pretty quick but a serious handful and the car felt like it was about to fall apart.

I never did understand the appeal of modding a 10 year old car and making it your daily driver. Strip it out, pop in a cage, and turn it into your weekend track car sure, but why drive around a POS if you can easily afford a better DD (as you seem to claim).

The 240SX was a good platform 15 years ago but it's seriously antiquated. Yet you belitte an Elise which is a far more satisfying drive, even if not especially quick.

Oh and lol for referring to your tires as GY asymmetric - but I'm sure of course you're running the GY Eagle F1s right? No question those are decent street tires.

The Porsche and BMWCC guys have many that are well ranked...hardly beginners.

Most 240sx's you will see like may performance cars from the past are simply beaters that many kids have found salvaged or accident recoveries.

The S14 chassis is a pretty solid foundation.

There is no one that would classify this car as a POS, I was just involved in an accident a few months ago and my insurance company covered $7k in damage...they did not total it.

The Elise is not a great driving car. The interior is glovelike....it's a go kart for the street. It was never designed to be a daily driver.

Just the fact that you think Eagle F1's are a single type of tire shows you are just trolling here.

I've driven on track days sponsored by those clubs - sure they have a few hot shoes, but most serious drivers move up to some sort of competitive series - even if its a entry level spec series. Lapping solo is fun but limited.

It's a 15 year old chassis - if you could choose a foundation today, why would you choose it unless you're very limited by budget. The example I drove was well maintained by the owner, though admittedly I don't know exactly what mods he had done beyond a big ass turbo. The chasis had significant flex and to make serious power, you had to endure some incredible lag. It was a hoot the first couple times the turbo kicked in, but long term it was a PITA.

If I was building a dual daily driver and track car on a limited budget, I'd probably go with something like the E36 M3 which go for ~12K and has a large aftermarket as well.

The Elise is not a great driving car? Have you actually ever driven one? On a twisty road or a track it's a whole bag of fun and then some. Sure it's not a good daily driver, but I'd hardly consider a modded 240sx, especially with one pushing out any sort of decent power, to be a good daily driver as well.

I actually didn't know the Eagle F1s came in different trims so thanks for the heads up, though I'd say it's equally innacurate to refer to them as just asymmetric since GY has multiple tires that have an asyemmetric tread.

You sound like a magazine racer who has no experience actually driving the cars you criticize. It also sounds like you've never been out on a race track - you're fooling yourself if you think you've pushed a car to its limit out on the street.

It's funny since I actually agree with your OP - I hate drivers who do that and I'd surely show some displeasure to them. But your follow-up comments are just irresponsible and stupid - I'd say I'd never want to be on a track with you at the same time, but as you'd probably spend most of your time in the gravel, it wouldn't be a problem.

Couple reasons I picked my car...#1 I like the looks and #2 I don't see them ever. S. Florida has a lot of cars you see constantly at each light...didn't want that.

I also didn't want a $600 car note a month. I have owned new cars, I am over it. You can do your own search around for original 1997/98 240sx's that are SE's with a manual and see pricing. They have taking a hit recently with the whole economy but in proper condition about 4 years ago when I bought mine anything under $10k was a steal.

There are a lot of people with limitless budgets building on this chassis. I have never heard of this flex you are talking about. Also most out there are terribly done crash recoveries...what year did you drive even? There shouldn't have been much lag at all for a track car. They are capable of making more than enough power without needing a lag inducing one save the sub 10 sec guys.

Didn't say the elise wasn't great driving. I said it was cramped and not well received by most taller people. M3's are everywhere here. IF I did a full track car I'd probably do a 944 Turbo.

Asymmetrics are the name of the tire. I can't help it if you don't know about them.

I don't really buy or subscribe to any car mags. I haven't been doing much to my car as of late though as I am finishing up house projects and studying for the CCNA then CCNP.

I am good friends with many guys that have had featured cars and many that are ranked at instructor level racing.

I don't track much as it's not a priority in my life...I may just head out afterhours though to some abandoned parking lot or area down here. It's actually alot easier lately with so much commericial property being vacant.

+1. Not only is a 15+ yr old design, it's a 15 year old car. Are all the bushings new, what kind of suspension work was done? Has the steering box been serviced or replaced?
If you think that it's good for anything besides a casual hot lap at the track, you don't know anything about track.
By today's standards, it's soft and flexible. 05+ Mustangs, 350Z's, even most FWD cars have a more sound, and rigid chassis. The stiffer the body, the less you need for stiff springs and other components.
Setting up a stiffly sprung car is fine for the track, but it would make it unsuitable for driving at the limits on the street. Squirrel like, bouncy and nervous are the words used for track cars on the street.
Your 240 the way it is now, is by no means anything to brag about. It's the average, plain jane, garden variety car. Get used to it.
Even if/when you fix it up and get it all race car'd out, the most you would get is, "nice budget setup."

Alky - I'm serious, I'm not trying to be an asshole. I ride a motorcycle and have family on the road, and people like you eventually hurt themselves and others. Many of my "biker friends" have been killed by asshats like you crossing the double yellow or tailgating/brake checking. This will come back to bite you, and I hope I get to see it happen.

At the very least, take all this as a hint to slow down. Buy a miata track car and get it out of your system AWAY from public roads where I might be riding.

Where did I say I have crossed a double yellow....where did I say half the fucking shit you spew? Don't take your fears out on me.

Worry about yourself man and if you are too afraid to ride a motorcycle, sell it. The worst rider is the cowardly rider.

Just make sure your mom is on time for my conjugal.

Because you were 'forced' to follow her and if she brake checked you would've passed her... = crossing the double yellow.

You're reckless. It has nothing to do with my fears whatsoever... The way you drive obviously does cause issues based on your past, you just haven't hurt anyone - yet. We're all familiar with over confident aggressive drivers and there's always some sort of accident that 'wakes them up'..

You have a lot of growing up to do, even at 37.

hmm last I checked the road was 2 lanes on each side separated by a concrete median.

You should sell your bike...you are overreacting in a panic.

It's not age in a car, it's mileage. I had a 1966 Mustang GT whose steering 'box' was totally fine.

I think you have a lot to research on the S14 chassis. There were only 5,000 total of these made in two years, of which few were SE's and even fewer manual.

Your spring discussion is funny as you are talking more about dampening than what spring rates would be...also a stiff chassis isn't going to really change much as far as suspension setup. My suspension is adjustable for both ride height and dampening. On the street I keep it at full soft and my swaybars are more set to error on the side of safety.

There is not much under my car that could be done better. The only thing that has not been touched is the engine. At first mostly because I wasn't sure what I wanted to go with, but now because I have other priorities. I am was tossed up between an LS1/LS6 or RB series, but now just doing a SR20DET seems to be the best option for a good street car. If I was into dragging then the V8 would be a good choice. But under the car is all new...down to lines.

any other concerns?

You guys that talk about shit like back in the day I was going 200mph just to get groceries but I was worried about jail time are funny. Get over it, it didn't happen.

I know you'll have yet another logically bankrupt chest-thumping Neanderthal response for this post, but I just can't resist continuing to pound you for the amusement of others since you're just such. a. douche.

I drive roughly 40,000 miles a year. I make it a point to go out at least once a month for the sole purpose of driving very quickly, often for hundreds of miles at a time. I've seen triple digits in everything from station wagons to a brand new Porsche 911. I've had just one ticket in the last decade, and it was when I wasn't paying attention and therefore made a mistake. So are you stupid or just consistently incompetent? (Both?)

You do know that air enforcement is done with stripes on the pavement, right? You do know that you can see those stripes clearly while driving? And that there are constant signs to warn you of air enforcement? If you get caught doing ANY speed by air, it is because you are an idiot. No way around it. They couldn't possibly make it any more obvious. Again, I can't tell if you're bragging that you're an idiot, or you're bragging that you have zero self-control (both are obviously true, but which are you more proud of?).

I'm gonna have to call shens on your supposed age. I just can't imagine this kind of utter and complete horseshit coming from anyone older than 18. Look, I'll spell it out for you, manchild:

A real man can control his emotions and his actions.
A real man has enough self-confidence to not get all butt-hurt and take things personally when someone else makes a mistake that causes a minor inconvenience.
A real man doesn't need to compensate. For anything. Mister "big brakes."

And you, regardless of your age, are not a man. You're not even close.

I've been trying to scrounge up some pity for you, but I just can't. I'm sure your dad beat you or your penis was amputated in a freak accident at 13 or you got your lunch money stolen every day or whatever happened to make you such a sick fuck, but for once I just don't care. You've had years to sort your shit out and get your head together, and its obvious you haven't even tried. You know, a lot of schizophrenic people think taking their medication is an act of submission, too. Just something to think about.

oh I am sorry I was only 17 when I got nailed from the air. Also not everyone is expecting to be tracked daily. You are making much more of this out of jealousy or something than I posted here.

I was cut off by a woman...I didn't go looking for someone to tailgate. Please read and not just rely on the other retards posting.

I am not compensating for anything, but it seems you are sniffing around me like I have something you wish you did.

My penis is fine, fortunately your mom had her dentures out when I hit that speedbump.

So let me get this straight, it's my fault if a 4x4 tailgating ME hits ME because he wants to play cat and mouse with ME?

You guys have so much hate you can't even see how retarded you sound.

Pot, meet kettle.

Do you think that everybody who tailgates is deliberately trying to challenge your manhood? Maybe they're distracted by 3 kids fighting in the backseat, maybe their spouse got hurt and they're on the way to the hospital. You don't know. But we do know that you act like an idiot because you think you've got something to prove to the world.

If they piss you off, just blow by them and don't look back. Just because you're an a-hole on AT, doesn't mean you have to be one in real life.

Not for nothing brake check master, but I think you've already proved your reaction skillz suck when someone slams the brakes in front of you.

ummm yeah...

So you have lots of tickets, accidents, and still haven't changed your driving habits because you think you're a good driver??? I can't even see how you still have car insurance at this point. Sorry dude, but I see no evidence to point to anything other than you being a bad driver.

You run people off the road and get kicks out of it? What the fuck kind of a sick human being are you? Some people are real dicks on the road, but this situations like these is where the intelligent and unintelligent are separated. If anyone tailgates me, whatever. I take comfort in braking lightly and in advance should I need to brake when this happens so if this person isn't paying attention they don't run into me.

But then again, I drive in NJ... so I'm used to this on a regular basis.

How do I get owned by something I posted here?

The guy is under investigation. He had a ticket the month prior that they put him on a payment plan even...his first check is listed as NSF with the county.

Didn't say I had lot's of tickets either...I haven't been in any accident for over 10 years and I drive constantly.

I was speaking of two different levels.

It handles well and the higher end ones turn great lap times and feel 'peppy'...however for the $65k the Z06 DESTROYS them across the board especially in comfort.

The elise I drove was probably the most uncomfortable car I have been in and out of. Not even with a full cage are many cars harder to get in and out of.

Like I said, it's everythign a street legal go cart would be if you didn't want to get wet in the rain and nothing more.
