Didja roll any mods on the map or just run it white?

I hope he didn't! As a rule of thumb I never run white, I will at LEAST turn it blue first.

Also remember to use chisels BEFORE you use an alchemy orb on the map, only takes 4 to get it to 20% quality.

LOL I rolled it white. I just wanted to see what I was getting into (vanilla) before taking it further. I admit I didn't even have time to finish it as I had to get the kids up and get to work (already ran late)

Whats with all the portals that open?

When you do a map it opens 6 or 8 (forget) portals. Once you go in it removes 1 portal. So that means, you can only die so many times before the map closes off permanently.

You'll want to at least make your maps blue. It increases the item quantity % but makes them difficult. They're honestly not that hard, sometimes the bosses can be, but it's a zone like any other.

Some mods suck though like "all mobs have reflect" or something, but shouldn't affect you with totems.

A "good" map would be a white map that you know you can beat the boss, use 4 chisels on it (making it 20% quality), and then use an orb of alchemy on it to turn it rare. Hopefully you don't get a crap mod and a ton of item rarity or quantity, and don't have to reroll it with a chaos. Thems the good maps.

Yeah I was just wanting to see what it all entailed before I started moding the maps themselves. How do I know if I can beat the boss in the white map? Just by knowing the level is doable? (maps seem to start at 68, and I'm 68 so I really won't start messing with maps until I get to Act IV and can farm DL)

I figured that was the deal with the portals, just wasn't sure.

Take for instance the 'Dry Lake' map. It will always be a dry lake layout, although the specific layout will vary a bit, the mobs will vary as well. The boss will always be the same.

One boss that I could never beat on my tornado shooter was the worm boss from the ruined gardens or w/e it was...so you'll just have to try each boss and see which is easy/hard.

Fortunately Orchard (the super version of the unique Devourer from the Hedge Maze) got moved to a 75 map because he was the hardest boss by a large margin of the "entry" maps prior to 2.0!

Well thank god for that, I thought I just sucked. Guy wrecked me.

He's also not *quite* as bullshit now because devourers overall got nerfed somewhat with 2.0, but yeah, he was notorious for being one of the most-skipped bosses in all maps, period.

People were more willing to do Piety/Dominus in maps than they were Tunneltrap!

So, separate topic, who's gonna be playing the 1 month, and what are you going to build?

I decided I'm going to play a southpaw crit dagger Reave Ranger. I intend to super nolife the opening weekend (while I watch LCS worlds!) and try to get a Bino's Kitchen Knife before many people have much money (aka get it cheap!). And a Death's Hand mace for my "main hand" >_>

should be fun, never made a Reave character

Sigh...I'm just in such a rut I don't know what I want to play. Maybe I'm getting old. I think I will play the 1 month, I just can't find the motivation to play *right now* with the league ending in a week, just no point.

As far as what...IF...I play...I might try a spectral throw guy just to try him out.

I'll be doing the 1 month. Not sure of what sort of build though. Has to be a casual/easy build -- I'm not quite as diehard as some of you :)

Trying to fund something nobody does -- two handed weapon marauder? Something like that maybe?

Played a yellow map today -- THAT as fun.

lvl68, desecrated ground and totems everywhere. TONS of drops (all shit). But man it was fun to play.

Can I make yellow maps? I took a normal one and upgrade to 20%. Why can I put 4 maps in the thing at once?

Just use an Alch on a white one. :)
Not sure about putting 4 in the Map generator.

I am on now if anyone wants to run maps.
Farming for loot for my Ranger on normal and for future toons :)

you shouldn't be 4 chiseling Lvl 68 maps

should be reserved for much higher level maps like Lvl 75+ and it's dependent on the map trade value

if you are 4 chiseling + alching + possibly chaosing a map for more than it's map trade value, then you're putting too much currency into the map

roll low level white maps with Transmutations, Augmentations, and Alterations

if you get a low level blue / yellow map, then consider running them unIDed and you'll get +30% QTY on top of what the IDed map mods would have been

you will not be told what the map mods are even after entering them, but it will show you total QTY, rarity, and pack size

You can put 4 things in the map device because sacrifice fragments can fill those other 3 slots for 5% quantity per fragment. It's a way people dump their excess dusk fragments on very high level maps to try to get more high level maps (which are only affected by map item quantity)

So finally beat Malachai on Merciless.
Wow, that fight is BS. I died more in that fight than in the rest of leveling put together.
(slight exaggeration)
At least I completed it. :)

I wonder if we are playing the same game. Chiseling? Vorrci? Malachi? Are these are upper level things? I've not heard of any of them.

Yeah higher level things.

I have to say the game really picks up in merciless and when you can start doing maps. Everything else seems boring now compared to maps.

My Witch is up to lvl 74 now. I think I'm at the Crustal Veins in the storyline -- or maybe just past that. I pretty much just farm Dried Lake for a bit then do a map or two. I just had a map this morning where there was 3 yellow boxes, 1 corrupted area and a master that actually spawned a whole never level/map -- a level within a level.

PS: I still get shit for drops :)

I run Neversinks loot filter. It help's a lot in the higher levels by filtering all the crap drops from your view.

Hooooooooooooooooooooooly shit!

That's a HUGE life saver.
I guess that explains how when I'm partying with 4+ other people they can pick the piles clean in milliseconds.
