The difference between warbands and standard is the economy differences (permanent league = many more rich players/many more items in circulation - best gear is much more expensive, good but not perfect gear is much cheaper) and there's no warbands mobs in standard. That's about it.

ah gotcha. I dont care too much about "economy" I guess. Less mobs blows though.
Hopefully they start a new one up quickly then.

Seems to take forever for the game to start once I click the EXE.. Is this the same for everyone? The game runs smoothly and my pings are low, but the intial startup takes like 20-30 seconds it seems. Also, at the character selection screen, there are usually a few different ongoing quests? I can click on to join or that start soon. But, there's no description of what they are, what level you need to be to join in on them, etc. What are these, should I be taking advantage of them, and how do you find out more about them?

The game's initial startup takes a while, yeah.

Those "ongoing quests" are usually race leagues, short-duration events where people race to gain the most XP in the limited time frame, with various special rules to make them crazier. I don't know much past that, they're not really my cup of tea.

Given how crappy the warbands encounters are, I don't miss them being back in standard. Too much HP and no interesting mechanics, they're just weak damage sponges. The warbands bosses were "better", but still pretty easy/boring. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I've fought the Beyond bosses (during last 1 month league) and they are crazy by comparison.

Yeah my comp takes awhile to think about launching too, don't remember it doing that before.

What you're seeing are races. You can go to the official website to get more details about what each race is all about. An example one I did a while back was: "1HR Endless Ledge".

You created a level 1 toon, and ran through endless ledge (same repeating map...although I did go to some zones that had act3 in it?)...once you die that character moves to standard. It announces throughout the race who died at what level, who is the first to reach 'x' level, etc.

You earn points based on your ranking, and at the end of the season they give rewards based on the amount of points you earned, usually cosmetic.

Honestly I do them once in awhile for the hell of it, but unless you're really good at this game it's hard to compete with the pros who map this kind of stuff out days in advance.

probably 20 secs on the splash screen -- what I don't get is that they don't have any progress bar. or moving parts to identify it's actually loading.

When I first started playing I had POE installed on my HDD and the load times were soooo slow -- even between zones. So I moved it to my SSD and holy crap it was soooo much faster.

Gotta do something about my RAM and GPY though. I get some crap-ass FPS when the screen gets buzy.

I had to give up on this game.

You might call me hardcore, or I have too much time on my hands, but pre-awakening I've had multiple 92+ level characters.

Since they nerfed map drops, so that only bosses can drop +2 level maps (so if you are doing a 68, a boss can drop a 70), it's become near impossible to solo level into the 90's unless someone is feeding you high level maps. They also apparently nerfed regular mob map drops, because the chance of getting a +1 map (a 69 in a 68 map for example) lies between the chance of getting a regal and an exalt (very rare).

I did about 400 maps in Warbands and got 3 +2 maps off bosses, and maybe 10 +1 maps off mobs. Screw that, no thanks; especially when many map bosses are class specific; running a specific build means you skip them unless you want to lose 50% of a level going back and back (when it takes 200 maps to level).

*edit*

Did not enjoy Warbands either; needing a third party website to figure out what maps to run in the first place bugged me. Running 200 maps and not seeing a single *good* unique off a chaos boss... I know they call it grinding, but that's just silly.

That's true. Can they be labeled? Or is that premium thing?
Feel free to manage the tabs however anyone wants.
No matter to me.

I have cleaned up the Guild stash. I went through every single piece of gear and got rid of rares in the high levels that are useless. I put Uniques in the first tab, second Tab is a combo of Low level rares and remaining Uniques.
Tab 4 are semi decent pieces, especially the weapons.
Look carefully and I suggest trying the weapons (Wands etc) to see if you get a Dps improvement. Tab 3 is open now.

Any good high level gear (or very good stats) will be put in Tab 4.
If you want to delete duplicates of Uniques that we do not need go ahead. :D

Yeah that's pretty hardcore in my book :D

I started last league. Only had one character (TS Shadow, he was epic), but I hit level 74 and just hit a wall. Could not get past 50% to level 75 before I'd die about 10 times.

Warbands is okay, but I did enjoy the torment mechanic a lot better. I'm curious to see what tempest is like....hopefully next league will be epic! Still debating what toon to roll...I want to start the league out the gate this time around, hopefully find enough junk to be able to trade and learn the economy and how it works.

lvl 66 as of this morning and flying through Merciless. Have died 4 times thus far -- luckily twice IMMEDIATELY after leveling. So no real XP lost.

Got my first map drop too this morning. And a "rare" gem - Fork (not really that rare I realize, but new to me nonetheless).
REALLY loving my mantle -- but can not get more than a 3L on the damn thing (I'm embarrassed to say how many fusing orbs I've used).
It seems like TONS of currency drops in merciless. On that note should I be hording orb of alterations? I mean I have a ton of them. Not sure if they are useful or not.

Thanks for cleaning up the stash mess XiandreX -- I will get better labels on the tabs ASAP (and maybe buy a few more)

I dont even bother trying to 4 link stuff manually, invite Vorici to your hideout and keep doing his daily quest until you can just craft them for 5 links.

You may want to read today's Development Manifesto. It's about map drops. I had about the same experience in Warbands. Enjoyed the new Act 4 content, didn't enjoy the warbands mechanic or the map drops. Im hoping for better in the one month and next league.

I haven't touched the hideout junk yet...

Do it, the daily quests take a few minutes each day and being able to craft an extra stat like resists on to each piece of gear for a few orbs helps with leveling. To create a hideout just talk to any Master in one of the towns. After you have created your hide out you can access it from the waypoint in the lower right corner of the map. You are limited to the number of Masters you can have in your hideout but I just rotate them all through initially to place their crafting table. Also whenever you meet a Master randomly make sure you do their mission, the higher level you are with each one of them the better crafting mods you can add to items.

Oh I did create a hideout a while ago, and have done a few daily missions and always do the master missions when I run into them in levels. I just haven't done the daily missions religiously or anything.

I will have to read up on the masters and how to get their crafting tables I guess.

Edit: in fact I take it back somewhat -- I do have one of the master's crafting benches or something in my hideout -- just not sure how I did it, or how to get the others :) Pretty sure I have Headstones

They're increasing map drop rates and decreasing XP gained in high-level maps (which is why maps were so rare: map level went up so high level maps are worth TONS more XP near 100 than pre-awakening). We'll know from the 1 month whether it's enough.

You should be hoarding alterations, and that isn't very many :p

Rolling flasks correctly usually takes 100+ alterations for a character, and they are ALWAYS valuable because you can use Elreon + Vorici (requires master level 6) to purchase Orbs of Fusing at a significant discount. They're also used in high-level crafting, and to roll maps.

The Masters are spread out in the towns, when you talk to them there should be a option to invite them to your hideout. When they are in your hideout talk to them and there should be an option to get the crafting table. To place the table edit your hideout. After you have the table you can dismiss them but keep in mind it will reset their XP bar for that level back to 0. The higher level you are with the Masters the more of them you can invite to hideout at one time. I am up to 4 Masters, I keep the ones I want to level up faster in my hideout. Once you start mapping you will find Zaya, she will give you a mini Map table that you can set up in your hideout and you can buy low level maps form her. It gives you a small quantity of items boost and makes it easier to sale/get to your stash while mapping.

You don't have dual monitors!? Whasrongwitchoo!? It's 2015 man!

I had a heart attack two days ago when my second monitor refused to turn on and the other was being finicky after I got my new desk...don't have the dough to replace any components. Vid card was just gross :)

I have at work, and the kids have them at home actually. I don't though :) Just no space and rarely a need for them.

For God's sake man, I'm still running a Phenom x2 (unlocked to 4 cores with slight OC) 2x2GB of RAM and a GTX 260 896MB GPU!

If I did plug in a 2nd monitor, my GPU couldn't handle it.

I do not game like I used to -- not even close.

I'm actually trying right now to decide if a newer < $100 GPU or 2x4GB of RAM would be the better upgrade.

With your PC, stay far, far away from anything Cast on Crit. Your framerate won't be able to handle it.

If you want to play a Spectral Throw build, buzzsaw would be a better choice (that's what my character who helped you on Merveil is!)

I'm thinking spectral throw. Like I said last night I really want to try a melee build (I know ST is not technically melee). I'll have to look at cyclone and buzzsaw when I get home and can access the sites.

I was farming with 2 people the other day using CoC and it was OK.
I would like to update -- just can't decide which is more beneficial out of the gate. RAM or GPU.

Spectral Throw is DEFINITELY not melee. It's a ranged attack build, similar to bow builds honestly.

Cyclone dominates melee builds right now, but it's certainly not the only one out there... just by far the best general-purpose.

Other considerations for melee: 2H, 1H + Shield, or dual wield? True dual-wield or stat-stick dual wield (use an offhand WEAPON with good global properties such as Soul Taker that is not able to actually use your primary attack)?

Facebreaker/Pillar of the Caged God builds are also neat, because they scale so differently.
