Fundamentalist in the original sense of the word - believing the fundamentals of what the Bible says. The word has lately been co-opted by a subgroup and come to mean "extremist" but I cling to the original meaning, even though I know it's a futile effort.

Funny you should mention it, Pat Robertson enjoyed a relationship with Bush which FAR exceeded the one between Obama and Wright. How many times has Wright dined with Obama at the White House? What role does Wright have in Obama's policy making?

I think extremists are defined by the ways they enact their opinions in the world, not necessarily by the opinions they hold. It's the right of each person to believe as they will.

Extremist: Bombs abortion clinics
Non-Extremist: May still think abortion is a sin but engages the world through dialogue.

Extremist: Tells people God hates f*** and tries to legislate against the lifestyle
Non-Extremist: Treats people of all sexual orientation and lifestyle as equals (sinners loved by God and offered his mercy) regardless of their understanding of where sin and sexuality intersect

So I actually do support a pro-life perspective, but I don't consider myself an extremist simply because I have that view. I think it's vital to conduct myself remembering that I, with the faults and sins in my own life, am in no position to point fingers at anyone.

I'd say it's more like this:

Extremist: Believes that what he/she believes is always right for EVERYONE and should be law.
Non-Extremist: Knows that faith is a personal thing and applies only to him/herself.

You are not an extremist as long as you don't expect others to live their lives according to YOUR faith, that is the only point i'm making.

I didn't mean to label you as an extremist, i've never considered you one, that wasn't my point at all. I believe you to be a good person and one of the very few that do take the good points from Christianity (and there are many) rather than using it as a bat to smash others over the head with.

No one has ever heard of our hockey teams, including every Englishman who doesn't play in one.

Still, it's the only sport i've ever found interesting, i couldn't care less about the fighting but a well played game does involve a few crosscheckings and slashings when needed anyway.

I think i'll ask them to stop the war for the Olympics, at least when Canada is playing.
