The DOJ has lost so many lawyers that it seems like it would be pretty doable to so swamp the government in litigation that the department basically becomes non-functional.

That's where all the pro-bono work from the firms they got to cave comes in.

This hasn't actually happened because any firm that actually starts to represent the government against companies or citizens as part of what constitutes a bribe will instantly hemorrhage every client that might ever face the government in a regulatory process or court....which is a lot. It would likely be the end of any firm that did so in spectacular fashion.

My understanding is that they've already had drastic losses in both clients and staff.

To some extent yes. If you are routinely in court with the government retaining a firm that has capitulated to the administration is just from a practical sense not a good idea. Not what a lot of litigators signed up for either.

In Southern CA, the Trump regime thought it was ok for the marines to fire 155mm shells across the I-5 Interstate while it remained open. So now the major link between LA and San Diego is closed from Noon-3pm today for this dick waving exercise.

Seems really stupid to me and Vance the shithead comments were even worse as this is not a training exercise. I'm so tired of their bullshit.

According to a NYTimes article the Marines have previously fired 155mm shells over the Interstate during previous trainings and it was not necessary to shutdown the Interstate.

To prepare for Saturday’s event, artillery rounds from M777 howitzers were fired from Red Beach east over Interstate 5 on Friday evening as a test run, said Capt. Gregory Dreibelbis, a spokesman for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, which is based at Camp Pendleton. Vehicular traffic along the interstate was not closed off while the artillery guns were firing, he said in a statement.

M777 artillery pieces have historically been fired during routine training from land-based artillery firing points west of I-5 into impact areas east of the interstate within existing safety protocols and without the need to close the route,” Capt. Dreibelbis said. He called the test firings an “established and safe practice” as a rehearsal for Saturday’s event.

The consensus I seem to be seeing from people who typically know about these things is deep suspicion the government is lying.

Who are those people?

People who are more often right than not.

Anyway if this is a regular occurrence the Marines should be able to easily present ample documentation to that fact instead of just that assertion. I personally cannot recall ever hearing about this being done while I lived in SD.

Also, the administration constantly lies about everything. Why should we believe anything coming from them without verification.

So Colombia calls out the US for murdering its citizens in its sovereign waters, and the Trump response is to pout and call the Colombian president an illegal drug dealer. Such a mentally stable leader in the US...
Like Hitler asking for a peace prize after uniting much of the world against Nazi Germany.
21st century edition is dumb as a rock. His successor though....

If I could bet on if the admin was lying or not about every statement they make I'd be chartering a G6 to Rome instead of flying commercial.

I would think it would be easy enough for someone in the press to get to the bottom of it. I am hoping that someone like Ward Carrol can dig into this a bit more. I lived in Orange County and San Diego area for over 50 years. Booms coming out of camp Pendleton isn't a uncommon occurrence and as far as I know the Interstate has never been shutdown for exercises. However I never followed closely enough to know if that involved 155mm fire from the beach to impact areas inland. However as a exercise, I would think that firing 155m artillery from a beach area to targets inland would be something that marines would practice. Talked to some people I know in Europe and in Sweden it isn't uncommon to direct artillery fire over highways and villages during exercises. As my Swedish military source told me, firing ground impact shells over a highway is perfectly safe.

I'm not sure how this could not be simulated at other ranges. If anything you'd want a ship to shore bombardment instead if the idea is a realistic landing and beachhead situation. As far as I know this demo did not involve either of these making it even more suspect. The Pentagon should cough up the documents if this is done all the time.

The impact areas for 155mm artillery training is on the far eastern side of Pendleton. The point of the 155 artillery training would be to support units farther inland not just at the beach environment.

The Marines felt confident enough to fire rounds over the Freeway Friday evening and the interstate was not closed. So why would firing over a highway be perfectly safe in Sweden but not in the US?

Accidents happen.

Agreed. Quite a number of years ago over at Schofield Barracks here in Hawaii a live fire exercise had artillery rounds crest over the Waianae Mountain Range into private cattle grazing land on the other side. This I read in our local newspapers at that time. However, what's odd about this, is that I can't seem to find any archived records about it. It's like it never happened. Hmmmmm..

A "test run" for something they supposedly do regularly? Yea count me as skeptical that they are telling the truth.
