If this
article about their rise and fall is at all accurate, Wayne Huizenga should have been tarred & feathered and run out of the state for what he did to that franchise and to the fans in South Florida. It really is an unbelievable story.
Coming from Miami, Fl, I would believe that article all the way. I understand Wayne Huizenga is a business man and thank him for bring a lot of sports to Miami to call our own.(Marlins and Panthers) I think at one point he actually owned all four of our sports teams (heat, dolphins, marlins, and panthers). But, the man couldn't of screwed baseball in south florida anymore than what he did after the World Series. I remember at the end of 97 everyone down here was psyched because it had been the first time since 93(inaugural) that the management actually put money into the team and we went all the way to the World Series(First time above .500 season) and were the champs. People down here were ready to get back behind the Marlins and then the next thing we know we have no more team. Talk about a knife in the back. He literally took his money and ran instead of doing "smart" moves and trading for more reasonably priced players and at least giving the Marlins a chance to compete which would've kept attendance reasonable. After that liquidation people just gave up around here because management didn't give a crap about the team, why should they?
Hopefully, our new owner (Loria(sp?) actually does some smart moves around here. Talk is that win or lose the Marlins should be getting a new stadium in downtown Miami. The problem is that a new stadium won't bring in fans. Management actually funding the team and showing some sense (which thus far this season they have showed) will bring back all the fans. By the looks of it we should be able to keep most of our players for the next season and that right there would give the fans something to look forward to next year. This is just the second season the Marlins get above .500 and the second time they get to the World Series. Makes ya wonder what woulda happened if they would've been funded properly since 93. :/
Anywho, I have hope that baseball in Miami will be reborn next season if all goes well and nothing too drastic happens. BTW, calling our stadium Pro-Player is blasphemy around here, always will be Joe Robbie Stadium to those who remember.
GAME TWO HERE WE COME!!!!
GOOOOOO MARLINS!!!!!
Quality start from Redman is all we need. If he keeps it close this will be another nail-biter.
