This ain't your usual opponent. All that mystique and history doesn't phase this team. They can't be intimidated.

Yeah but their little 10 home game winning streak in the World Series is over! Don't count out the Marlins. Granted I got nervous as hell when Urbina kept throwing those balls but I knew he could do it. Gotta love those Marlins. :D

Yeah BABY Yeah!!

Going to bed now. Be back tomorrow for Game Two. Hope Redman gets some confidence from his fellow teammates and does an amazing job tomorrow. If Yankees lose tomorrow they will have such a hard time in Miami with no DH and 70,000 fans down upon em.

LoL I posted in another thread yesterday that I'd much rather see the marlins win the series as I think they deserve it a lot more.
However it's only game 1.

Yanks lost other game 1's in the series only to come back and win. So you can't really count them out yet.

Haha, wow these Fox announcers are something aren't they?

"The reason you don't want to pitch out with 2 outs, is because the pitch you're pitching out on might be the one you get the batter out on"

How is this different from a 0 or 1 out situation?

And they keep calling Contreras' forkballs as splitfinger fastballs. SPLITFINGERS DON'T GO DOWN 15 MPH FROM YOUR NORMAL 4-SEAMER!

And you're quote is one of the best. As if the Twins or Red Sox were intimidated by the Yankees and that's why they lost? Give me a break, this isn't Jr. High, these are professionals.

I can't ever remember announcers worse than these guys. And keep getting worse and worse! When does Fox's playoff contract run out with the MLB? These guys are dreadful.

I still don't even consider the Marlins a real major league team. Like the Devil Rays.

What makes a major league team in your opinion? They are still both relatively new teams. (Compared to the majority) Thing about both of em is lack of funding, which leads to lack of fans. (Why support something if you don't see the organization supporting it?) Both times the management has actually spent money on the Marlins they have ended up in the World Series. People that say the 97 team was bought are true but aren't all teams bought?
GOOO MARLINS!!!!! 3-1!!

Anyone that says the 97 championship was 'bought' is strange. I never got that one. Did the 1997 Marlins even have one of the top 5 payrolls that year? I don't think they did.

Many people's theory about creating a champion involves good scouting, good drafting and player development like back in the old days. In '97 the Marlins said screw it and the owner went after all these free agents, and trades creating a large payroll (it was at least top 10) and after they won the W.S. he was satisfied with that, so he sold or traded off all the high priced talent he signed that year cutting payroll to a fraction of the previous years. 2 years after winning it all, they had like 3 players from that championship team.

The Marlins' team salary that year was the 5th highest in MLB according to the payroll standings on these pages (with popups, unfortunately). AL NL

If this article about their rise and fall is at all accurate, Wayne Huizenga should have been tarred & feathered and run out of the state for what he did to that franchise and to the fans in South Florida. It really is an unbelievable story.

I think the Yankees bats have gone fishin' for the winter. Go Marlins, sweep the Series!! (Shouldn't it actually be Marlin....you never use fish names plural. Trouts? Shads? Shrimps?)

Coming from Miami, Fl, I would believe that article all the way. I understand Wayne Huizenga is a business man and thank him for bring a lot of sports to Miami to call our own.(Marlins and Panthers) I think at one point he actually owned all four of our sports teams (heat, dolphins, marlins, and panthers). But, the man couldn't of screwed baseball in south florida anymore than what he did after the World Series. I remember at the end of 97 everyone down here was psyched because it had been the first time since 93(inaugural) that the management actually put money into the team and we went all the way to the World Series(First time above .500 season) and were the champs. People down here were ready to get back behind the Marlins and then the next thing we know we have no more team. Talk about a knife in the back. He literally took his money and ran instead of doing "smart" moves and trading for more reasonably priced players and at least giving the Marlins a chance to compete which would've kept attendance reasonable. After that liquidation people just gave up around here because management didn't give a crap about the team, why should they?

Hopefully, our new owner (Loria(sp?) actually does some smart moves around here. Talk is that win or lose the Marlins should be getting a new stadium in downtown Miami. The problem is that a new stadium won't bring in fans. Management actually funding the team and showing some sense (which thus far this season they have showed) will bring back all the fans. By the looks of it we should be able to keep most of our players for the next season and that right there would give the fans something to look forward to next year. This is just the second season the Marlins get above .500 and the second time they get to the World Series. Makes ya wonder what woulda happened if they would've been funded properly since 93. :/

Anywho, I have hope that baseball in Miami will be reborn next season if all goes well and nothing too drastic happens. BTW, calling our stadium Pro-Player is blasphemy around here, always will be Joe Robbie Stadium to those who remember. :D

GAME TWO HERE WE COME!!!!

GOOOOOO MARLINS!!!!!
Quality start from Redman is all we need. If he keeps it close this will be another nail-biter.

BLAH!!!!

Why the hell did Castillo even run.... :/ Oh well at least one good thing is that we made Petitte throw 22 pitches that inning not counting all the throws to first base. Four more innings like that and Yankees bullpen will have to step up. So far a lot of his stuff seems hittable not moving around much.

Bottom of the 1st now.

COME ON REDMAN!!!!

3-run Homerun by Matsui.... Everything was going so well and then he hit Giambi, Bernie got a Hit. 1st and 3rd and Redman falls back 3-0 on Matsui, next pitch is a perfect strike and homer.

DAMN YOU!!!!

Marlins love coming from behind so this is right up their alley. Hopefully Redman turns clutch and makes it to the 5th inning without allowing anymore runs.

Gotta believe!

Jesus H Christ in a chicken basket! I think Petitte only threw 5 pitches that inning. :/ Lee and Lowell both hit pop ups to end it but with a little more umph they both woulda gone over the wall. Oh well.....

Redman is not pitching well at all. :/ He keeps falling behind the count so often.

And if you notice on the replay Lowell's foot was in the way which gave him that extra millisecond to tag him out. Either way awesome throw from pudge.

Marlins need baserunners damn it! Petitte is basically serving them the ball and Conine just stares.... SWING!
