while i agree it's stupid, i think it is fucking RIDICULOUS that you can get suspended from Xbox Live because of doing something that was left in the game. that is really a bunch of bullshit.
since IW didn't test their game enough and left bugs in it, people can now get suspended from live.
ridiculous.
I don't agree with your logic. Just because something is possible, that doesn't mean it's permissible. I don't think anyone who intentionally uses glitches does so thinking that they are intentional features of the game. Taking advantage of a bug to gain an advantage in the game is cheating. It also ruins the game for everyone else, and it's in Microsoft's interest to prevent that.
Same goes for the situation Kabob described where two guys were trying to get nukes together. It's possible, and I doubt IW will do anything to prevent it, but I think both IW and Microsoft would consider it to be cheating. It's the same as if two guys got on opposite teams and one guy did nothing but kill his teammates (in a game mode that allows teamkilling). It's possible, it's not preventable, but it's cheating.
Cheating in the context of video games does not just mean "using a cheat code."
They need to focus on fixing the issue. If people can't do it there's no need to punish, the "we'll suspend you" may not even happen, it's just their way of trying to scare people into not doing it. I mean honestly, how are they going to know who does it? I'd think that on their side it appears as just another Javelin kill...
Focus on fixing the problem IW...
I don't think IW would have any involvement in the suspensions, that's all Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't say what data they have access to, so we really know what their process is. From what they have said we know they do join games with people who have complaints filed against them and watch them play. They probably also look at the quantity of complaints filed. If you and your 4 friends all field complaints against two guys for cheating, and you don't have a history of filing false complaints, they'll probably just believe you (they've said in the past that your history of complaints impacts the weight they give to your complaints).
